    Having lived overseas in many foriegn countries, the U.S. has always had unfair tarrifs levied against imported American products versus that same countries low tarrifs on imports. Many other countries fully support local buying over foriegn buying to the detriment of imported goods. It is about time the U.S. was treated fairly at the trade table.

    Retaliatory would mean the US enacted tariffs on Canada first. No comment about your tariffs already in place for decades that sit at or around 200% on a variety of US produce and dairy? Why is the US the only country in the world that isn't allowed fair trade deals nor allowed to police its border? NAFTA and its successor were a mistake.

    • @noconaroubideaux9423

      Because we use so much of Canadian crude oil that those tariffs are probably irrelevant.

    • @seanwalters1977
      @seanwalters1977 29 นาทีที่ผ่านมา

      @ That's just one of many examples of Canadian or even EU tariffs that have been in place for quite some time. We really don't have to use their oil. We only import oil so that we can sit on ours for as long as possible. US and Canadian reserves are just about equal as of now. The US has been ramping up production for a few years as well with massive sources still essentially untapped.
      The Canadian economy is highly dependent on exports to the US. All goods exporting sectors, save agriculture and metals and minerals, rely on US goods markets for between 74-100% of overall exports. That equates to about 65% of their total economy being dependent on exporting to the US. Meanwhile the US economy sits at about 11% in relation to exports to Canada. Who knows, maybe Canada finds a new trade partner but can they find one in time and can their economy hold until they hit the same quotas they have/had with the US? Will their new trade partner have worse tariff rates than the US?

    The facts of all this to me is the following: Securing our borders are most important, last year alone 77,000 Americans died from Fentanyl. If another country has the ability or at least make a conservative effort to try and put a stop to the flow of illegals and drugs to the American border then there would be no need for tariffs. If they won't then I have no issue paying more for everyday items because lets face it if you really wanted to trim your budget you can very easily. Some examples - do you really need to spend 5 dollars on coffee every morning, make it at home, do you really need $170 dollar Nike sneakers, do you need to have 200 cable channels on your TV. Sometimes you have to suffer a little before it pays off. One American life saved to me is worth paying a dollar more for my Avocado.
