I actually did see the full Grindhouse in theaters back in 2007. I had to drive 2 hours to the only theater that was showing it, and in truth seeing this movie in the theater is one of my top best theater-going experiences of my life. The whole audience was would react to the humor, the gross-out parts, and applauding when the film ended. This movie is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lives
It’s really too bad more people didn’t give this a chance. I saw it in the theatre with friends. To this day it is still the only time I have ever gone to a movie where the entire theatre cheered and gave it a standing ovation. It was incredible.
I saw Grindhouse in theaters and remember being so disappointed that almost no one was there, truly heartbreaking. Especially when everyone was complaining how much it cost to watch one movie in the theaters. To make it worse the same people that didn’t go cause it was “too long” ate up the Lord of the Ring films, which is just 3 hours of people walking. 🤦🏻♂️ People are why we can’t have nice things
Just 3 hours of people walking? Sure, and all those incredible battle sequences, fantastic acting performances, phenomenal visual effects that still hold up, and incredible cinematography that shows off the landscapes of New Zealand in awe-inspiring vistas played no part in the trilogy's success, according to you? Wow. Just wow. 🤦
I watched this opening night when it first came out. The theatre was packed, and everyone was laughing and cheering enthusiastically. I was surprised to later learn that the film bombed at the box office, given how much fun everyone in the audience seemed to be having.
This is a fun movie to see in the theater. "DON'T" and "THANKSGIVING" you're my favorite trailers. Both movies were fun gory, and well made. I think releasing the movie on Easter hurt its box office
I never understood why it wasn’t more beloved!!! My love of that particular Mopar had a lot to do with my love of it… but they were absolute solid old fashioned ‘grind house’ movies!!
@@AnnieBoBannie421 I think it's appreciated and loved a lot more now than back then, I remember it being a big deal when it came out but not as much as it deserved
Watched it in theatres. I live in Canada and they actually asked me for ID so my dad took me to a different theater and snuck me in. I loved it. Still one of Mt favorite movies
I saw Grindehouse when it came out in the theater ❤️ it's was a seriously stormy night...perfect for a classic grindehouse experience! I own both movies and watch them often, but that first movie house viewing was brilliantly unforgettable and I'm grateful to have had the moment!! ❤️🧡
I grew up the era of grindhouse movie's per-say, 1970's & 80's which in time i learned it goes even further back then that, all the hammer vampire movies & some of the craziest & disturbingly horror movies, oh can not forget the ton's of spaghetti western movies my dad had me watch as a kid, & i am so thankful i got to see & live in that era, cause now in 2023 i get asked about a lot of those movies the good & bad ones mind you
Was devastated when the Australian theatrical release was canned after it flopped in the US. We ended up getting a stand-alone release of Death Proof in cinemas, and Planet Terror went direct to dvd.
I saw it in Chicago. Opening night, the theater was packed. I enjoyed every moment. Both movies, the trailers, the vibe that was going on in the theater. I thought it would be huge. Oh well, I love it. Watch it every year.
Death Proof is Quentin Tarentino’s masterpiece. It also is probably his most personal movie. The reversal of predator to prey, the relentless foot imagery, the final annihilation of the villain at the booted heel of a powerful feminine figure. He uses slasher and revenge movie tropes to express his clearly masochistic desires. The upending of established, perhaps toxic, power structures is a core theme to many of the stories he likes to tell. I think this is what is so great about a lot of B or grindhouse movies…they look to challenge and provoke the status quo.
Say what you want about the idea, as a kid all I knew was that somehow we were paying for one ticket and getting two movies. I was good for it, but my Dad groaned pretty hard. But at least he liked Death proof for the second feature more than Planet Terror
This was the most fun-filled three hours I had in theaters when I was 21 going on 22 and already into my junior year in college! Already I was talking to fellow classmates who said they were going to see it, and after I saw it at the Beaucather Cinema across from the Asheville Mall - which is no longer there - I was just howling up with others on and off the campus how great it was. I have even met Tom Savini more than once, as the head of the Mass Communications department at my alma mater had close ties to him, and I got to get a poster of this film autographed by him! He even brought one of the corpse dummies from the Planet Terror segment to one of his talks!
I skipped church services in order to see it on April 6, 2007...and I don't regret that ONE BIT. Seeing this at my local cinema was a wonderful experience.
If you were old enough to remember and gone movie theaters in the 70’s and early 80’s. You experienced drive-in’s and double features. Unfortunately, Grindhouse theaters were mainly in urban areas. Glorious and total madness.
Those fake trailers were awesome! Remember searching for them on the early days of TH-cam! When Machete finally became a real thing i was super hyped for it! Machete was so much fun!
Rodriguez said in interviews he wasn’t going for making Planet Terror a 100% 70s low budget throwback. The action is purposefully over the top because it looks like what a lot of AIP directors wished they could afford to do. Kinda like if an 80s slasher movie rose to the level of intensity that the poster and VHS box art promised.
I saw this in the theatre...what was funny is after the 1st film a lot of people were up and leaving as they do during the credits. I remember this part so much, there was a small group of guys getting up to leave so I say hey where are you guys going the movie is not over..they looked confused then I explained that was film 1 film 2 is next and it happens to be the Tarentino flick. They sat their asses down and the smile on their faces full of gratitude , I will never forget.😂😂😂😂
Good video!! Saw these films in the theater when they came out. Enjoyed the heck out of "Planet Terror" and still watch it yearly -- just love the bomkersness of that movie!!! Really did not care too much for "Death Proof" though will still watch sometimes.
I saw Grindhouse with a friend in a packed theater and it was one of my best theater experiences, though the fun all of us had stopped dead during sections of Death Proof. (We finally revived for the car chase.) Thanksgiving got especially fun audience engagement.
Seen Grindhouse in theater & at the drive-in the 2nd time i seen it, it was a good viewing experience. Because of that I'm glad they made a blu-ray of the theatrical cut(both films in 1,fake trailers, ect.), it's only blu-ray I'll hook up the mini projector to watch.
To my knowledge it wasn't released in the UK. I first saw both films as the separate movies on DVD. I liked them both but Planet Terror was my fave. I finally got to see it as intended eventually when I got a copy of the Bluray. Need to revisit it with the fake trailers & all.
The Grindhouse double feature wasn't shown that way in all countries. Here in Germany we had instead both films seperately in a longer version, each about 20 minutes longer than the Grindhouse version.
I remember going to see this at a theatre a few towns over, right after Easter dinner. Bless my older sis (I was 16, she was 20) who took me cuz I can't imagine she enjoyed it sitting there for 3 hrs but I was all kinds of stoked.
Planet Terror is absolutely fantastic Rodriguez threw everything at the wall . It really doesn't get the love it deserves I know what Tarantino was going for with Death Proof and it works for its assignment , despite some great setpieces it just falls a bit flat unfortunately. The faux trailers are nothing short of Legendary
I was so fortunate to get to see this when it was in theaters back in '07. I really dug the whole experience. I still enjoy watching it (all together) on blu-ray; however, setting aside the 3+ hours needed is sometimes challenging. No matter though, this is the way it should be experienced. If you haven't had the pleasure of doing so, check this out ASAP. You'll ultimately be glad you did. Cheers all...and Happy Thanksgiving!
I saw Grindhouse in the theater and I enjoyed myself and totally understood what they were going for with the movies. Death Proof is my favorite film and Thanksgiving is my favorite fake trailer. The double feature is worth a watch.
I remember seeing planet terror as I loved Rose McGowan and the trailer sold me. I was sad it didn't do well... also I can barely hear cause of the audio dunno if its the mic
I saw Grindhouse in theaters with my best friend at midnight and absolutely loved every second of it. I got the Special edition blu-ray that as the theatrical double feature with the trailers. It's great because you can't really find the trailers except on youtube. It's nice having it all in one package.
2nd look? I've watched this flick like 100 times. And I can also do double feature of "Machete" and "Hobo With A Shotgun". Now with "Thanksgiving" finally made, I think I'm gonna have to do an all day marathon at some point.
It’s hilarious that Death Proof has been criticized because it’s one of my favorite movies from Tarantino. Also, Don’t and Thanksgiving are my favorite fake trailers and Edgar Wright NEEDS to make Don’t.
Death Proof was so good. It’s the only movie I can think of where a character starts as a boogeyman/slasher villain antagonist and becomes frightened prey by the end. Actually the one thing I can compare it to is the sudden change of genre in From Dusk Til Dawn but that doesn’t count for obvious reasons
Still hands down my favorite theater experience ever. That includes midnight releases of Star Wars films. Unfortunately it came out during Easter and competed with Passion of the Christ
I think that it was too cool for the crowds. They should have released the films individually and saved the double feature for a home release. Btw, Death Proof is an amazing movie.
I saw this in the theater. Tarantino tends to put in a lot of dialogue, but on the whole, it was a great movie. That car chase scene was phenomenal. We literally cheered at the end. Such a fun time!
I've only watched these movies once, and felt like it was enough. They weren't terrible but they weren't very good either. I think they should have either made serious content or gone all in on something that could be featured on Svengoolie. Instead it's like they couldn't decide and didn't commit to a direction.
Shame this didn't pick up as a franchise on its own. Would've loved to see takes on more Grindhouse cinema. With the fake trailers becoming their own movies, maybe they could try again.
This movie never came out in my country, England. After it flopped in America we just got the two movies released separately. I was so looking forward to seeing it😢 Let’s start a campaign to get it rereleased on blue ray.
I saw this in the theatres as “grindhouse” I didn’t know anything about the movie remember going @midnight release everyone loved “Planet Terror” and trailers and then started to leave a staff member came in to say another movie starts soon. Half theatre left
Putting a movie like Death Proof right after Planet Terror was a massive risk. While I love both films, the adrenaline drop from the change is something that should have been expected. The problem with that is that starting off with Death Proof is also a risk that afterwards people would say "alright that's enough". I'm sure they had to have a discussion about this. It's hard to figure out I guess but Death Proof isn't a great choice for a double feature I don't think.
I'm surprised that Rob Zombie making a short film that had to be cut down to only a trailer or the fact that people left after the first movie not realizing that it was a double feature were not mentioned in this review
I was so excited for this when it came out and still love it to this day. Its a great tribute to old school grindhouse movies, im scottish and knew exactly what it was as im a huge fan of Grindhouse. I just thought the Americans would of got it no problem but how wrong was i? Flop or not i think this is a wild ride and the fake trailers were all amazing!

We never had the “grindhouse” here in the U.K. But we did have our equivalent in the Curzon & Prince Charles theatre & such. Double bills? Bah! We’ve done all night marathons
i was working at our theater when it came out and saw it 2-3 times a week while it was running. such a unique fun experience. i managed to get the actual double feature blu ray before the company messed them up and started selling “grindhouse” but it was just the two separate movies on two separate discs.
For a film thats called a bomb. It must be the most successful bomb ever.....we are on there 5th spin off film .....so....... even most comic book movies dont have that many
Prefer Planet Terror, it makes me squirm with each viewing of it. I only saw Death Proof once. I do like Tarantino's earlier works, but Death Proof's momentum is quite the grind to sit through😜 still my sister and her bf enjoyed it, they cheered loud enough with the car crash scenes.
I saw it in theaters and loved it, it was definitely the way to go. Initially I wanted to go because it was the only way to see the first full trailer of Zombies Halloween remake but as I saw more I thought it looked great and I'm so glad I went. Going to see Thanksgiving tomorrow lol
I actqually caught up to the film''Planet Terror'' about a few months ago? I have to see it again ,and then make any comments ? I like "'Giallo's'' Italian Horror/Bella Donna cinema'' ? ,they are as far as I go with shlock! .I am not a fan of Zombie films, unless they are ''Slow Zombies''? ,which makes more sense If the whole stic could work! .I have yet to see ''Deathproof ''? .though I am a big aficionado of these 2 films . Come on "'Dusk till Dawn''has Salma in it !. Though Rose with that machine gun on her leg ,would attract anyone ,though she is crazy'' Activist now !
I actually did see the full Grindhouse in theaters back in 2007. Everyone loves it, what are you on about?
Planet Terror it's my favorite zombie movie of all time and cemented Robert Rodriguez as one of my top 5 directors...
I saw Grindhouse in theaters and remember being so disappointed that almost no one was there, truly heartbreaking. Especially when everyone was complaining how much it cost to watch one movie in the theaters. This is not the only case, think of Marty Scorsese when he made The Irishman.
What Planet Terror is one of the most underrated zombie movies ever made I worship this movie
I watched this opening night when it first came out. The theatre was packed, and everyone was laughing and cheering enthusiastically. I was surprised to later learn that the film bombed at the box office, given how much fun everyone in the audience seemed to be having.
I wish we had more modern movies like this, very gonzo, creative, over the top, and really fun
This is a fun movie to see in the theater. "DON'T" and "THANKSGIVING" you're my favorite trailers. Both movies were fun gory, and well made. I think releasing the movie on Easter hurt its box office
Agreed 😊
Watched this like 6 times in the theater. My gf didn’t know what to think 😅
Tarantino and Rodriguez are genius legends. Always loved DeathProof.

Watching Grindhouse opening weekend with a decent crowd was one of the most fun movie going experiences of my life.

Out of the 2 films...I fell in love with the slow burn and dark subtly of Deathproof. ❤️ such a great classic film!

Tarantino has a lot more impactful masterpieces but DeathProof is excellent
Say what you want about the idea, as a kid all I knew was that somehow we were paying for one ticket and getting two movies. I was good for it, but my Dad groaned pretty hard. But at least he liked Death proof for the second feature more than Planet Terror
The reason why I like to write and love movies started here. These two movies shaped me. Literally. The fact that people didn't wanna see it is crazy
I love this movie! Born in the 60's, I watched many grindhouse movies at the drive-in and theaters. Those trailers were great!
I Fucking love these movies!!! When Jeff Fahey says "That boys got the devil in him!" I lose my shit every time!!
This was the most fun-filled three hours I had in theaters when I was 21 going on 22 and already into my junior year in college! I also caught this in theaters. It was such a great concept. It's honestly a tragedy this bombed. I wish it had started a movement.
In Canada there was a fifth trailer. Hobo with a shotgun. Great movie with Rutger Hauer. Filmed in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Tom Savini's character in Planet Terror is hilarious gets his wedding finger bit off slips his ring on to middle finger and shoots a zombie

Love grindhouse one of my favs. Death proof had to grow on me. But as an adult I share this double feature with everyone.
THANKSGIVING movie was Awesome
Still hands down my favorite theater experience ever. That includes midnight releases of Star Wars films.
Unfortunately it came out during Easter and competed with Passion of the Christ
I think that it was too cool for the crowds. They should have released the films individually and saved the double feature for a home release.

I loved these movies. Seriously underrated.
I watched Planet Terror and Deathproof again a couple of days ago and I completely agree we need it
I saw this in the theater. Tarantino tends to put in a lot of dialogue, but on the whole, it was a great movie. That car chase scene was phenomenal. We literally cheered at the end. Such a fun time!

We sat through all 3 hours in the theater!!
One of my all time favorite theater experiences!
For my part I think ultimately Grindehouse was a project by cinephiles for cinephiles.
This movie never came out in my country, England. After it flopped in America we just got the two movies released separately. I was so looking forward to seeing it😢
Let’s start a campaign to get it rereleased on blue ray.

Saw this 4 times in the theater. Refused to buy the separated dvds until they released the theatrical format. It was my first bluray.
I saw it 3 times in the theater. I even talked my parents into going.
I love planet terror. I knew these movies were related as "grindhouse" but i did not know it was a double feature..
I watched this the opening week so many people left after Planet Terror and didn't come back.
Best production and direction ever!
I think the biggest mistake was giving the movie a wide release. I mean, who were these movies for?
Me & my friends? 😄 We dug it 👍🏽 But we’re movie fans - A minority.
I saw the double feature on opening night and it’s one of my favorite movie memories. The commercials, the aura of this film is fucking perfect.
I need to watch this again it’s been years
For a film thats called a bomb. It must be the most successful bomb ever.....we are on there 5th spin off film .....so....... even most comic book movies dont have that many
Both movies were awesome
Planet Terror was my favorite
Plus both were filmed in my Town of Austin TX 😎👍
Happy Thanksgiving All 🦃👋
This is one of my favorite theater experiences of all time and the Blu Ray experience is awesome 😎
I dont know anyone who didnt like grindhouse. I also dont know anyone who wanted to stay 5 hours in the theater 😂
I am still waiting for a sequel. Or a TV series.
Seen the double feature in theaters once and had a blast watching it before it got split up a few weeks later
So glad i was able to see thìs in the theatre😎
I love Death Proof. It might be my most rewatched Tarantino film.
Rose McGowan was really hot in this movie.
Can't argue that she looks like a stripper and that is meant as a compliment.
Death Proof is one of my favorites. Planet Terror is awesome as well.
Now we just need Edgar Wright's DON'T and Rob Zombie's Werewolf Women of the S.S.
I still love Grindhouse watch it a few times a year ❤
Loved terror ...proof was good too hate that it flopped meaning no franchise
I actqually caught up to the film''Planet Terror'' about a few months ago? I have to see it again ,and then make any comments ? I like "'Giallo's'' Italian Horror/Bella Donna cinema'' ? ,they are as far as I go with shlock! .I am not a fan of Zombie films, unless they are ''Slow Zombies''? ,which makes more sense If the whole stic could work! .I have yet to see ''Deathproof ''? .though I am a big aficionado of these 2 films .
