Thank you for this wonderful demonstration at normal speed, not speeded up. It is such a beautiful painting. Magical, what a wonderful gift you have ... thank you for sharing.
I watched this amazing tutorial in preparation for a seascape sunset which I’m thinking about. Your pthalo blue and neutral tint was a very interesting shade for evening clouds but the lesson here for me was the absolute importance of contrasts to bring out the luminosity of a light part of a painting, and the need to be bold to compensate for fading, a mistake we amateurs make. Thank you Michael.
What a lovely, relaxing reminder of where I grew up in Newport, Rhode Island, USA. Our step-father was Portuguese (I know only bad words in his language!), and his extended family had lovely photographs. What a wonderful place to live, Michael. And thank you for your painting tutorials! Fanna Turano Denver, Colorado USA
Having a creative block for the last couple of days, so watching others paint is fun. I miss painting with others as well covid has put a dampener on all that so thanks for the show.
Hey Mike, the top edge of the rocks cries out for a silhouette of trees and vegetation to make this a masterpiece. It is however a solid painting, and the top, puffy, dark clouds over the rocks is magical I also love your wet sand and ocean, Nice work as usual, sir!
Hi Michael I'm from Portugal . We have beautiful landscapes here for painting and inspire us. Peniche is a beautiful place with good food, especialy fish...😄By the way, I love your videos and your painting style.
The painting is amazing and you are a great artist. Peniche is not an island. It's the name of a portuguese fishing town but in front of Peniche, some kilometers away in the ocean there are The Berlengas Islands. They are a well preserved sanctury of bird and marine life. You can visit them. There are boat trips from Peniche and it takes half an hour to get there. Greetings from Portugal. We hope to have you here again very soon.
Thank you for your comment. I have lived in Peniche for a couple of weeks and visited the Berlengas Islands. I always thought Peniche is an island as it was only connected with the mainland by a few bridges. Thanks for your correction, though, it is always good to know new infromation. I hope to return to Portugal very soon, too. Loving this coutry, all my visits there have been unforgettable.
Very talented, and your watercolor painting is just marvelous, it almost looked like if it was painted in acrylic, the only way I can watercolor paint is when I sketch in pencil and ink and I will give a wash with watercolor paint combined all these three methods and you will accomplish a beautiful painting. Awsome, I Will continue watching your tutorials excellent tutorial thank you zoe
Dear Judith, Thanks for your support! In my travel palette, I use the following @DANIEL SMITH colors: Quinacridone Sienna, Perylene Violet, Indigo; Quinacridone Deep Gold, Alizarin Crimson, Cobalt Blue, Phtalo Blue (GS), Phtalo Green (BS), Neutral Tint
It is amazing to me how much you the professionals are attached to the calligraphic brushes. Could you comment on advantages over the regular round ones? Thanks
Sure, Santiago! Calligraphic brush uses 2 types of hair: soft goat on the outside, hard wolf on the inside. This combination allows me to create details, such as trees, with much greater ease! Check this video for more details: th-cam.com/video/3fJqUrO0974/w-d-xo.html

Dear Mr. S., the density of paper changes not just the drying time. It changes just about everything! Paper with high density is very hard to master, so I would rather advice sticking to 300 gsm for learning. Now, the brand also changes the drying time, as they add different quantities of glue in the paper. Fabriano 300 gsm dries out in 15 minutes, Arches - in 30, Saunders Waterford - in an hour. You can experiment with brands if you look for longer drying times!

I colori predominano sul disegno, la luminosità degli acquerelli e quei minuziosi tocchi di pennello danno una sensazione di morbidezza alle tue opere. Hi Colleen, that would be the calligraphy brush! You can buy all the brushes I am using here: www.watercoloronline.com/art-supplies
