Great video! Straightforward, approachable, down-to-earth, only the relevant information, no fluff. You gave the entire experience and provided an accurate demonstration of how long it would take and how difficult it would be. Really really useful. Thank you very much!
I have watched a million shed vids but this is the one I'm going with, so cheers for this. I like the way you do your base with the flashing etc. I have a 10x8 version of this type of shed to build. My ground is sloped down so the back end slabs will be stacked, but otherwise the foundation is the same. There's only one thing I'm doing different: I'm going to build a mini stud wall on top of the flashing, just a foot or so, so I can raise the roof of the shed (I think mine is even lower than yours). This will make a big step to get into the shed but at some point in the future I shall cut a section out of the doorstep, replace with a board and hinge it. Cut the metal floor perimieter and its door rail (sliding door) and attach to top of the hinged board so it all still works. Will need some good accuracy and fit to not impede the door action. A little awakward, but I think it's going to work. Certainly less awkward than having a stupidly low ceiling.
I just bought 6x8 arrow with floor kit. Thinking of just setting it on blocks like the ones you have but completely covering shed area with them. I will use chain link posts buried into ground at each corner and screw shed to them for wind stability. Cant do much with these floor kits as they need to sit on level ground. I have pressure treated gold, i mean 3/4 plywood for floor and pond liner to wrap under bottom of floor assembly before wall install. Hope mine goes well.
Just my observation, probably doesn't really matter because it's a steel building and you're not putting that much weight in it, but those corner 15x pads, perhaps you could move them out so that the corners of your joists are not sitting flush on the corner of those pads? Maybe have those corner joists more in the center of those pads? Just my observation.
That's a lot of wood to make a platform for your shed. You could of done it cheaper with some pavers, base, leveling sand, permasand and some 2x4 treated for ground contact. Its solid support, no height adjustment needed, and you don't have to worry about animals getting underneath. That all being said, you made one hell of a base, good job.
Very well done video explaining everything. A good resource for building the floor. I"m sketchy of the concrete blocks you used. The weight is not centered on the concrete blocks so they will tip over time. The stores have concrete blocks that stay centered under the walls.
I'm in the process of building the same shed with this same kind of floor. I finished the flor today and I agree, the floor is a project of its own. Where did you get the flashing?
Mine is 3" off on the diagonal measurement. plywood hangs off. is there a way to pull it and square it up, or do I need new 12 footers? they warped overnight.
@@chriscraft2 nice. I'm gonna probably give it a little added support interior wise on the shed itself as I live in nw Illinois and don't want to walk out to a collapsed shed due to snow. I think 2x4 framing will be stronger than their "upgrade kit"
Just bought this same shed for $720 it was $100 more at every other lowes except the one closest to my house for some reason so it might be worth checking around different locations. I'm adding up the materials for the floor now and its looking like $450. I might just skip the 4x4s and add more blocks under it since I don't ever plan to move it. Just the 3 4x4s are $100 and 1/2" treated plywood is $200.
@@cmcc8947 worked out good its been like a year and its full of stuff and holding up. I think I ended up putting like 12 of those square pavers under it. the only problem I did notice is the way the doors are made water drains into the door tracks but the tracks are on top of the wood so a little bit of water gets in by the doors whenever it rains.
You mentioned keeping the shed walls away from the fence but you didn't say why. I was planning on putting mine within a foot of the fence on two sides and the gravel covering that last foot. I'm trying not to eat up too much of the yard.
Nice job but but some of of you negative comments put me off, maybe more positive it’s hard work but nothing in life is easy and it’s satisfying to see the end result.
Please let me know, how was the base attached to the concrete slab. For me, it doesn't seem to be secured. During heavy wind/storm, the whole shed may slide out of the concrete block. Please advice.
I live in Houston tx we dont get wind.. securing is up to you.. I did NOT because my building is being used for heavy items.. welders, hoists, air compressors... I probably have 2000 lbs in it right now... now I did secure the metal building to wood floor very good... my building is not going anywhere...my building is also temporary
Chris Craft 2 Had this same question too and I was thinking the same thing. Nice to know you live in Houston just like I do. Just finishing the floor now and working on the shed this weekend
Hey Chris, thanks for taking the time to make this Video! Exactly what I was looking for. I will be building a similar foundation as well. Question, where did the 142 5/16" measurement come from??
Hi nice job like both of ur videos on the shed built. Question what happens if I dont cut the 12footer to 142 and just leave it that way will it make my built bad or will it just have that extra lip thanks.
@@chriscraft2 oh okay you what you’re saying is it’s not exactly one percent needed it’s just advised, I ask this because the 10x12 shed will only fit if it’s pretty close to the fence, I’m working with the space that I have

Dude thank you for making these videos. I’ve probably watched both 5+ times each.
I have watched this video at least 10 times. Building my floor plant as we speak. Thank you for the great video.
I have half my floor done but after watching your video, I'm gonna take it all apart and do you method

Wanna say thank you I have the exact same one for showing me the difficulty parts you did a great job
My roof collapsed this winter due to a heavy snow fall.
If you live in the northeast get the roof reenforcement package also.
This video will never get old! Great work!........Subbed.
Just bought our place. Need some storage also. Cheers brother!

Where did you get the flashing?
You are doing a great job big fella' I look forward to seing it finished?.
Why don’t you just put the shed base on the concrete blocks, saves time and money ☺️
Some blocks are like 1 to 2 dollars too. Make a concrete block patio and done. Add cost of lumber, plywood, concrete cheaper.
Payouts mentioned that the flashing is 10’. What are the other dimensions? Thanks and nice video

is there a way to pull it and square it up, or do I need new 12 footers? they warped overnight.
Just bought all the materials you used. Including the shed at about $740 now. $1250 for entire shed and floor
Great video by the way. It'll be my guide to build this myself
the building has a little surface rust but still looks like it did in the video to this day. You will love it

How'd it end up holding up without the 4x4's? I am thinking of skipping them too, bc of the cost.

This actually helps me
70 Degrees! it’s 20 over here in michigan! this is why i can’t take out my chevelle 😭 jokes aside thanks for this man i dropped a like and sub
also what are the plans for the shop, and don’t you already have a shop in your backyard, did you build it yourself?

the city or officials can make you move it.. you need at least 3 feet to walk around and cut weeds and small trees
What if the 4x4s are running width instead of length? I have some hardwood pressure treated 6x6 but they are only 10ft vs 12 ft...
Thanks for sharing.
If I use
with 12 deck Blocks will that be fine?
Nice job but but some of of you negative comments put me off, maybe more positive it’s hard work but nothing in life is easy and it’s satisfying to see the end result.
I didn’t realize I was saying negative things🤔
why use flashing? to protect against water damage?
yes, and it looks better too
Is there another equivalent to fill dirt that can be used?
they use sand and pea gravel
I love the regional Mexican music in the background.
Thats how you know it's the weekend
Nice cuts!! 🦾🦾
That same 10x12 Arrow shed is currently $749 at my local Home Depot 🙃
Not to shabby, good info as always.

Is that an LB7 duramax? Ooo its so clean, mines beat to shit
Hey Chris, thanks for taking the time to make this Video! Exactly what I was looking for. I will be building a similar foundation as well.
Question, where did the 142 5/16" measurement come from??
actual length of my building
I was overthink it, im like, but wait, it's a 12' 2x4 lmao. Got cha! You built to dimension of the shed, got it! Thanks again Chris
Hi nice job like both of ur videos on the shed built. Question what happens if I dont cut the 12footer to 142 and just leave it that way will it make my built bad or will it just have that extra lip thanks.
it will stick out and the rain will run into the building
@@chriscraft2 hi thank you didn't think about that. Have a wonderful day really appreciate your help.
How do you keep rattle snakes, skunks, mice and rats from making a home down there? Off the ground like that exposed?
I don’t care about that
Can I get away with using 2x4's if I'm putting a 42" lawn tractor in the shed or should they be 2x6?
I would use 2x6 for that
What is that 'special tool' I need one!
How do you plan on moving that? And if you did was it solid enough to pull from 4x4s?
it doesn’t weigh that much empty.. drag it with my Jeep or truck
Can you do this without the 4x4 sir?anyone?
Great job
good job
That same shed is $899 now
Do you have a link to the flashing? I'd really appreciate it.
they sell it at all Home Depot’s
Need gravel under every block or they will sink over time
🍪
Could I build this on pallets ?
I would not do that
@@chriscraft2 ugh I thought I was all set .
maybe pallets on concrete blocks.. any wood on the ground that is not treated WILL rot in a year for sure
Mine's very temporary and dry where I live. Even with pallets I'm picking the pallets up on sand and pavers.
Nice 👍🏻👍🏻
why does the shed has to erected a minimum of 3 feet from a fence?
I doesn’t for a shed but you will end up growing trees in there and creating a disaster in a few years.. at least give it space to mow and maintain
@@chriscraft2 oh okay you what you’re saying is it’s not exactly one percent needed it’s just advised, I ask this because the 10x12 shed will only fit if it’s pretty close to the fence, I’m working with the space that I have
but an inspector or the city can make you tear it down or move it in some cases..HOA, etc...3 feet is the safe number from property line
@@chriscraft2 oh okay, I gotcha I appreciate you answering
How much time it takes to build one of those? Thanks.
It took 1 day for floor 2 days for building
@@chriscraft2 Thank you!
How far apart are the 9 pavers ?
Damn.... the 10 x 8 is over $500 at HD now...
Lol I just bought that 10x12 and it is now 769$. INFLATION IS A BITCH
dang.. it is still worth it… just try to build a floor like I did
@@chriscraft2 I screenshotted your materials list and am headed to the Depot tomorrow! Awesome video man totally appreciate it
Damn a year ago they were $400 i just bought one for $700
the 10X8 was $400 when I bought mine … what size did you buy? I seen the 10x12 for like $759 the other day
