Beautiful! In ‘68, freshly returned from ‘Nam, I bought a ‘66 Plymouth Satellite with the 426 Hemi and 4spd. Loved that car. I bought it used with about 40k miles, so the original owner hadn’t been shy about driving it. It still had plenty of oomph left in it though, and I took advantage of that!

This guy has so many cars..remember you showing others..must be nice for a man that did very well for himself and be able to save a rare lot of cars..well done Lou
Back in high school in the late '60's, by good friend had a '68 Road Runner that his MOTHER bought for him! She was too naïve to believe it was a muscle car and thought that it was just a slightly jazzed up Belvedere 2 dr. sedan. This GTX reminds me a lot of that car because they were roughly the same color, sort of a khaki green. That car I mentioned had a 383 Magnum with a 4 on the floor. Plain Jane as hell, but boy would she run!
Lou Costabile -The difficultly In owning a car like this is the desire to drive it vs the risk of something happening to it if you drive it. For a car worth north of $150G’s iit’s like a guy in a strip club.
Awww Lou, she's a sweetheart - and much nicer than my own '68 GTX. Having the hemi is just icing on the cake! Thanks as always for all you bring us. -Ed on the Ridge
Sigh....it doesn't have 20 some computer modules on it...sigh.. it's beautiful.. was that a Javelin I saw in the background?...sigh...I'm going to go somewhere and cry now.
Man, if there ever was a #1 restoration, this is one for sure. A female employee of ours' brother had one of these back when they were new. His had a 426 hemi with a 4 steed stick. I don't remember the options, but I do remember him punching it and laying 2 wide black strips on the road, indicating for everyone it had posi-traction. I'm 71 now, so I was the ripe age of 16 and already a big car fanatic. I was more of a GM guy, but this Plymouth really got my attention! 😉
Most amazing reflection in the paint i've ever seen in any video. Really have to let that laquer cure, some say a year. And words from an engineer. What anecdotes and insight.
Awesome! I love the paint on this GTX & the sound of the Hemi doesn't disappoint, either! Thanks for bringing John back with another one from his collection!
I really enjoy these videos by Lou Costabile. Very detailed looks, not rushed, no excess information. This video is great, an exquisite GTX. Although, I'd like to have had about 3 hours more video of that underhood… maybe lift off that huge, beautiful chrome aircleaner… perhaps take that throttle linkage off, remove the master cylinder, maybe pull the plug wires and disconnect the fuel lines, back my pickup truck up to it, unbolt the intake w carbs, drain the radiator... scribe the hinges and remove the hood...
Beautiful, Gorgeous, hard to find the words to describe this car, truly a piece of Mopar history. just like in the video, to look at it and to hear it, no words needed, Love it, Thank You Lou!!.

My Lord how many cars does this man have! I really like this guy he has awesome cars and had such awesome knowledge of each one! I love this car I had a 1969 Sport Satellite and I lived it was my very first car too. I prefer the 1969 over the 1968 but this is a awesome car. Thanks for sharing Lou! I am.anxious to see his next vehicle!
I’m not really a dark green person, but on this Dodge it looks modest and sleek something that new cars lack severely. And it sounds great. The sound of the engine is very organic love it.
A.A.A., I would estimate that in the late 60s and early 70s, dark green was one of the most popular colors chosen with 10-15% of new cars sold in that hue. We never owned a Highland Green 68 Bullitt Mustang but we had a 73 Duster and a 75 Fury that were the same color as this GTX. As far as I remember, they had dark green vinyl seats not the two-tone like this GTX. BTW the GTX is a Plymouth not a Dodge.
Nice car! It's kind of a sleeper. It's got the Hemi under the hood, but, while the looks do suggest that it's more than your average car, they don't scream that it's super aggressive. When he first started it up, it didn't sound as if it was that aggressive, but when you went around back and got the exhaust note and he revved it, it sounded pretty good. My Grandma had a '68 Dodge Coronet sedan that, I'm sure, didn't have a Hemi, but what made me think of it is that it also had the little marker, or as he called them the "Nader lights". Her Coronet, of course, was more of a luxury car than a muscle car, though I would imagine it had a V8 of some sort under the hood as it was a fairly large car. Anyway, that GTX is a beauty. Though it's styling is somewhat understated in that it doesn't scream, "I'm a muscle car!", I don't imagine that, with that 426 Hemi under the hood, that it's any slouch on the road. That's something that I think is cool about a sleeper. At first glance, it's not obvious how special a sleeper is, but then when it takes off from the line or you hear the exhaust note, then you know it's not just your average car. Thanks, again, Lou, for sharing this. :)
This was my dream car back in the '60s. I called it the Satellite and I liked it much better than the Camarro or the Mustang. It was a lot faster than you think. My buddy had one and we did a lot of cruising in that car.

Did you notice the starter (7:45) was not the typical Chrysler Corp. gear reduction starter? That is correct for this car. All 4 speed hemi’s used a direct drive starter up through the 1969 model year. Torquflite equipped vehicles, however, did have the familiar “Highland Park Hummingbird”.
Hello lou, car, beautiful engine with an extraordinary,I love it. I also really like the road runner and sport fury convertible 65. Have a great Weekend👍👍👍❤
Beautiful car. I need to correct the owner regarding the speedo. You didn’t have to order the Hemi to get the 150 mph speedo. I owned a ‘68 GTX 440/4spd. back in the day and it had a 150 mph speedo. Love your car though. You’re a lucky man. Gotta say though, this guy Lou sounds like a real dork! 😀
That colour is very nice and it would have blending in well closer to the evergreen trees for the background . btw that lawn is perfectly cut because each size of lawn has a special way to do it , this had a the basket weave similar to the Baseball fields that have real grass. If I was buying that car I'd only have to see the Lawn as proof that if he cares enough about a little thing like the grass .... that GTX doesn't even need a test drive because it's just as good as it was in the ashowroom in 1968 . Interesting rear section with the same lights as the Roadrunner but the Trunks vertical span has a break it both red lens bars for a rear Visual ID to denote GTX. FORD and GM did that to the full-size cars from the Biscayne to the Caprice and the Custom to the LTD . I stil l say that the early Clay models prototype methods were by scupltors that sketched what the saw in their mind and then formed it . Jacob Epstein used marble and granite that had beauty trapped inside it where he just chissled away what was hiding it. Clay models came about after proffessionals removed all the clay that didn't look like the car.

I'll sadly never get to own a classic (would've loved a 1970 Coronet Super Bee 4 Speed with either the Hemi or 440-6), don't have that kind of cheddar. But I'll enjoy my 6 Speed 2018 Camaro SS until the wheels fall off
Lou this is from 4 years ago so you will probably not see my comment. First rather than your usual question of why this car? How about asking how you acquired it? Then were you looking for this particular car or did you just come upon it. Finally what have you done to this car since you purchased it? I decided to comment because My Dad purchased a 1968 Sports Sattelite with a 383, factory chrome rims with red line tires, and a black vinyl roof. I tried to convince him to buy a GTX but he was having none of it. Lou you find the coolest cars but when I click on them it is with a sense of trepidation.

Hi J Ferg, Nice attention to details, Lou
This is GORGEOUS! THANKS LOU!!
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome Wiiam.
Nice 😁 I love 60s cars
Glad this is one you love :-)
A hemi or 440 6pak gtx would be cool or one with a hellephant I had one that looked exactly like this those were fun days fast cars n pretty girls
Hi Rondle Swango, Thanks for viewing & sharing, Lou
Hell yea! Love it
Hi Doug G, Glad to read you "love it" :-) Lou
Hello lou, car, beautiful engine with an extraordinary,I love it. I also really like the road runner and sport fury convertible 65. Have a great Weekend👍👍👍❤
Hello Roberto, Glad to read you "love it" :-) Thank you for the well wishes on the weekend, and hope you have a great weekend too, Lou
Hi mmmpowered, Happy to read you enjoy this car & thanks for sharing your knowledge on the speedometer, Lou
GTXs and R/Ts came with 150 mph speedos.
That colour is very nice and it would have blending in well closer to the evergreen trees for the background .
btw
that lawn is perfectly cut because each size of lawn has a special way to do it , this had a the basket weave similar to the Baseball fields that have real grass.
Hi Gary wood, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
That thing is beautiful

I'll sadly never get to own a classic (would've loved a 1970 Coronet Super Bee 4 Speed with either the Hemi or 440-6), don't have that kind of cheddar. But I'll enjoy my 6 Speed 2018 Camaro SS until the wheels fall off
Hi FirebirdCamaro1220, Hope you get to have some rides in a few classics soon, Lou
Cool car!
Glad you enjoy this car Brock White :-)
Lou this is from 4 years ago so you will probably not see my comment. First rather than your usual question of why this car? How about asking how you acquired it? Then were you looking for this particular car or did you just come upon it. Finally what have you done to this car since you purchased it?
I decided to comment because My Dad purchased a 1968 Sports Sattelite with a 383, factory chrome rims with red line tires, and a black vinyl roof. I tried to convince him to buy a GTX but he was having none of it.
Lou you find the coolest cars but when I click on them it is with a sense of trepidation.
