When I saw Marineford's reaction to Luffy's Conqueror's Haki, since I was a kid I always thought they're so shocked by it because it's an actual tangible demonstration of Luffy's will to Rise above others and that if they leave him to his devices he will one day be a threat to the world. That Haoshoku was like a demo trailer to everyone for the potential Luffy has and he will reach heights in Haki not many can. I'v held this belief since I was 13 years old, this chapter it changed; What I thought wasn't all there was to it, That shit literally can be weaponized and if you're not a Conqueror yourself you might not have anything to guard against it. It's like "someone without Haki trying to battle a Logia" kind of scenario all over again.

We all know how thoroughly he plans, so much so we're only now seeing the full scale of the interconnected new world plotlines. But more importantly, his interview responses concerning future events always aim & succeed in hyping/preparing fans for major moments, like this one in 1010. Past examples: saying something about a SH was going to die (the going merry), the year of Sanji (Sanji full backstory revealed), the SHs facing off against the lurking legend (revealed Rocks - & now its SHs vs Rock reborn (BM & Kaido)).

@@Thane3999 it's masterful that the way luffy achieves things (acquiring advance haki skills) hasn't changed since the start of the story, i.e his unrelenting drive to achieve his ambition. Conquerors haki is essentially just the ability to never give up, the perfect message for a shonen story but in reality it's a very difficult thing to do in the face of seemingly impossible odds. Anyone could do it, like Rayleigh said about haki, but they tend to only go so far or learn the haki which is easiest for them to get. E.g. Luffy literally thought Katakuri was impossible to beat, yet he kept on fighting him anyway. How many of us keep pushing forward when we face an impossible situation? We all can, but only some do.
The difference is that Zoro back then the only times he could manifest Armament and Haoshoku was by Lion song and Ashura respectively. The he learned how to use Armament in ways other than Lion Song, but still not Haoshoku.
Oda is such a master at big payoffs like this. Years of conservative writing with payoffs here and there, but WANO KUNI has just been consistent with back to back payoffs. The KING of MANGA.

The full scale of the interconnected new world plotlines is truly staggering. The SHs were always ready since the start of the TS, now this vs yonko saga (Zou to Wano) is the PK crew candidate testing saga, just like how the Water 7 saga & Thriller bark test if they were a proper pirate crew & luffy if was a proper captain. The reason luffy succeed in getting FS & Ryou was becos of his unbreakable will, aka his conquerors haki. That's how he beat Katakuri, it's how he was able to retrieve his crew mate from BM, overcoming her trap & escaping her territory. His will pushed himself & his allies to keep pushing forward despite the losses (enraged army, roof piece the wedding edition, Kaido 1 shot etc) & near-death experiences (when BM ship cornered them in 900, Queens exploding collar & bioweapon in Udon, even this chapter Zoro saves unconscious luffy with Asura etc)

Law didn't hurt Kaido through physical force, it was a function of his ability that bypassed Kaido's skin. That was the point of that whole bit of dialogue about how Law's ability throws him off, he isn't used to fighting someone who just straight up has a hard-counter to his skin's durability

In this chapter Luffy and Zoro take a massive step towards filling Roger and Rayleigh's shoes and thats part of what sets Luffy apart from other the great young pirates like Law and Kidd or Ace when he was alive.. none of them have a tier one 1st mate like Zoro

Luffy has been the MVP against kaido this entire arc. Even among the all the super novas he has been taking on kaido the most. Also kaido has been taking him seriously the most.

Luffy's will is the greatest. Usopp said as much in Punk Hazard lol. Shanks made his bet becos even as a kid, luffy was relentless when it came to his goals. We saw this in his interactins with Shanks, Garp, & Ace. Now, seeing how this unbreakable will beat Katakuri, and pushed his crew & allies to overcame the BM pirates' plans in WCI, I finally understand Ace's confidence in Luffy during the yamato flashback.

Zoro using conquerors haki this chapter reminds me of Luffy using it at marineford. Ivankov asked Luffy "Where did you learn that power?" Luffy says "what power?". Kaido asked Zoro if he has it, and Zoro didn't know.
I would've so LOVED for Luffy to say to Zoro: "Of course Zoro would have Conquerors, otherwise I'd need a different First Mate" the way Zoro said to Luffy in Fishman Island.

I think what Sengoku did at Marine Ford, the Buddha attack or something, was also using advance Conqueror's Haki because the attack was also not touching Teach. And it has been confirmed in the SBS that Sengoku has Conqueror's Haki.
Zoro has been using Conquerer’s Haki in combat longer than Luffy. He just didn’t know it whereas Luffy has been using Conquerer’s Haki knowingly, just not in combat. The opposite scenario. They could teach each other a lot. I would LOVE a training arc focused on Luffy and Zoro training together under a master.
It's still being hinted, my guy, I wouldn't state that Zoro has CoC. If Oda did not outright state that Zoro has CoC then I wouldn't go as far as to say Zoro can use CoC as well.

Remember when Big Mom punched the gear 4th out of Luffy? Pretty sure that was Kings Haki. Same way Kaido knocked it out too. Which may suggest advanced King’s Haki may have the ability to neutralise Devil fruits. Luffy will likely need this against someone like Blackbeard.

From my understanding they wanted him to kill or defeat Kaido, but that inevitably will be done by Luffy. He contributed big time, not even to down play the crew, but no one else in Luffy’s crew could have done what Zoro did in this fight! Now I hope he gets a 1v1 down below against one of the commanders

Something to point out though, Luffy was the first to hint at observation during the Little Garden arc, when he was able to hit Mr. 3 off "instinct". I don't remember if there was any other instance prior to that, but that's the first one I remember clearly.
I think you missed on the fact that Zoro damaged Kaido thanks to the same technique Luffy used at the end. You can see the black lightning when both Luffy and Zoro attack. It's basically coating your fists or swords in conqueror haki and that's how Kaido actually figure Zoro has Conquerors'. Zoro didn't know he did it, he simply put all he had left in his attack which means he subsonsciously put his conqueror's haki into his final attack
Going off the viz, you can infuse CoC into anything, which makes it more versatile, meaning Zoro could infuse a preTS technique with CoC, while luffy infuses his ryou with CoC. Potentially Kaido is infusing regular armament hardening with CoC and BM's iron body could be becos of her subconsciously infusing it with CoC, hence the mother Caramel incident. It also explains how haki masters like Roger & Shanks haven't formed a black blade, which is hinted to relate to mainly to the amount of armament haki. Not saying conquerors isn't involved, but rather they might have gone the round of boosting their armament 'level' with CoC, as I suspect luffy will. Whereas Zoro, who Oda says specialises in Armament, will likely continue down this path.

There actually isn't any black lightning shown when Zoro hit Kaido with Asura. It's very unlikely Zoro used the same technique as Luffy as Kaido only implied Zoro as having basic CoC. Not only that but if you pay attention to when Kaido speaks to Luffy about only a few people being able to actually use that technique, he sounds as if he doubts Luffy could actually do it which would make no sense if Zoro just did it like 5 seconds ago.

He figured Zoro must have used CoC implying that this is probably the only way to damage him, hence why normal armament didn't work. Maybe CoC nullifies CoA of the target. And even Zoro didn't recognize himself using CoC, while that's not the first time Zoro uses Asura, which leaves me to believe that Asura and CoC are not connected. Who knows. Based on Luffy's explanation he coated his arm with CoC, while having a flashback about Hyogoro teaching him Ryo, so basically he combined both. Ryo principle with CoC infusement and we already know that Zoro can already use Ryo, as swordsmen are more close to it then normal hardening.
5:10 Big Mom's creating a new cloud homi to replace Zeus, which is why Kid saw the clouds forming. After Promethus complained to Big Mom about Zeus, he asked her to do him a favor.
I think what kid means when he says no need to take it too far is that you don’t need to die to kill her, if we have them separated already. It shows the confidence they have that they can beat them. Basically saying don’t kill yourself by letting kaido hit you cuz we are gonna beat her anyway now that they are separate.
Amazing vid! That analysis was top tier. The only thing I was not sure about was gear 5th since if that is revealed now, then would there be a powerup for the bosses after this arc? I agree that all the hakis are connected, which makes me wonder how conqueror's is connected to observation. People hypothesize that during marineford that shanks did some sort of time related ability, so maybe conqueror's with observation let's you travel places you can sense quicker, or gives you (and your ship and everyone/thing on it) some sort of speed boost? The one piece games did not allude to that though.
i think it would be really fucking cool to see fuffy sorta workshopping a potential gear 5th figuring out how to incorporate conquerors into his pre-existing forms, we've never seen him figuring out a new gear before, and I think it would be really great to see him try a bunch of things and fail before landing on a final gear 5th
Ashura is Zorro covering himself in conqueror's haki. If you think about it, it makes sense. How can an illusion cut somebody? Its his conqueror's haki doing it. When he does that maybe he's actually manifesting his conqueror's haki and giving it form. That's why no one knew he had conqueror's haki until he did that technique!
Nice review Sawyer! I thought the chapter was good. I like the point you mentioned about the three Haki types being connected. This makes me wonder if the CoC Haki no-touch attack that Luffy did in the chapter is just a stronger version of the COA Haki internal damage technique which he used before on that tree while he was training.
That point of the fact that the three kinds of haki are similar to each other is really good, I actually and my friend were talking about it before watching the video.

I love that Zoro got conquerer's haki. I feel like he should be the first one in the crew to have it. He's always by luffy's side, he was the first one to join the crew.
I feel like hybrid has a tradeoff, hes more agile but he got less scales so he can get wounded more easy. And Like was said his scale pattern looks like Luffy's devil fruit pattern in gear 4th, Kaido isn't indestructible in hybrid he has to fight carefully and this isn't his fighting style so he's taking way more damage than he needs to, I think it eventually adds up and takes a toll on his body and thats how Luffy beats him, due to the efforts of everyone maybe a flash back of all the damage kaido took since the war began or he starts feeling all the pain once his conqueoror's haki dries up due to Lyffy pushing him that much.

The full scale of the interconnected new world plotlines is truly staggering. The SHs were always ready since the start of the TS, now this vs yonko saga (Zou to Wano) is the PK crew candidate testing saga, just like how the Water 7 saga & Thriller bark test if they were a proper pirate crew & luffy if was a proper captain.
The reason luffy succeed in getting FS & Ryou was becos of his unbreakable will, aka his conquerors haki. That's how he beat Katakuri, it's how he was able to retrieve his crew mate from BM, overcoming her trap & escaping her territory. His will pushed himself & his allies to keep pushing forward despite the losses (enraged army, roof piece the wedding edition, Kaido 1 shot etc) & near-death experiences (when BM ship cornered them in 900, Queens exploding collar & bioweapon in Udon, even this chapter Zoro saves unconscious luffy with Asura etc)

Law didn't hurt Kaido through physical force, it was a function of his ability that bypassed Kaido's skin. That was the point of that whole bit of dialogue about how Law's ability throws him off, he isn't used to fighting someone who just straight up has a hard-counter to his skin's durability

In this chapter Luffy and Zoro take a massive step towards filling Roger and Rayleigh's shoes and thats part of what sets Luffy apart from other the great young pirates like Law and Kidd or Ace when he was alive.. none of them have a tier one 1st mate like Zoro

Zoro using conquerors haki this chapter reminds me of Luffy using it at marineford. Ivankov asked Luffy "Where did you learn that power?" Luffy says "what power?". Kaido asked Zoro if he has it, and Zoro didn't know.

Zoro has been using Conquerer’s Haki in combat longer than Luffy. He just didn’t know it whereas Luffy has been using Conquerer’s Haki knowingly, just not in combat. The opposite scenario. They could teach each other a lot. I would LOVE a training arc focused on Luffy and Zoro training together under a master.

Such an incredible chapter. I got super saiyan 1 vibes when goku transforms and he yells at gohan telling him to leave that battlefield.
Something to point out though, Luffy was the first to hint at observation during the Little Garden arc, when he was able to hit Mr. 3 off "instinct". I don't remember if there was any other instance prior to that, but that's the first one I remember clearly.
I think you missed on the fact that Zoro damaged Kaido thanks to the same technique Luffy used at the end. You can see the black lightning when both Luffy and Zoro attack. It's basically coating your fists or swords in conqueror haki and that's how Kaido actually figure Zoro has Conquerors'. Zoro didn't know he did it, he simply put all he had left in his attack which means he subsonsciously put his conqueror's haki into his final attack
Going off the viz, you can infuse CoC into anything, which makes it more versatile, meaning Zoro could infuse a preTS technique with CoC, while luffy infuses his ryou with CoC. Potentially Kaido is infusing regular armament hardening with CoC and BM's iron body could be becos of her subconsciously infusing it with CoC, hence the mother Caramel incident.
It also explains how haki masters like Roger & Shanks haven't formed a black blade, which is hinted to relate to mainly to the amount of armament haki. Not saying conquerors isn't involved, but rather they might have gone the round of boosting their armament 'level' with CoC, as I suspect luffy will. Whereas Zoro, who Oda says specialises in Armament, will likely continue down this path.

There actually isn't any black lightning shown when Zoro hit Kaido with Asura. It's very unlikely Zoro used the same technique as Luffy as Kaido only implied Zoro as having basic CoC. Not only that but if you pay attention to when Kaido speaks to Luffy about only a few people being able to actually use that technique, he sounds as if he doubts Luffy could actually do it which would make no sense if Zoro just did it like 5 seconds ago.

He figured Zoro must have used CoC implying that this is probably the only way to damage him, hence why normal armament didn't work. Maybe CoC nullifies CoA of the target. And even Zoro didn't recognize himself using CoC, while that's not the first time Zoro uses Asura, which leaves me to believe that Asura and CoC are not connected. Who knows. Based on Luffy's explanation he coated his arm with CoC, while having a flashback about Hyogoro teaching him Ryo, so basically he combined both. Ryo principle with CoC infusement and we already know that Zoro can already use Ryo, as swordsmen are more close to it then normal hardening.
5:10 Big Mom's creating a new cloud homi to replace Zeus, which is why Kid saw the clouds forming. After Promethus complained to Big Mom about Zeus, he asked her to do him a favor.

Amazing vid! That analysis was top tier. The only thing I was not sure about was gear 5th since if that is revealed now, then would there be a powerup for the bosses after this arc? I agree that all the hakis are connected, which makes me wonder how conqueror's is connected to observation. People hypothesize that during marineford that shanks did some sort of time related ability, so maybe conqueror's with observation let's you travel places you can sense quicker, or gives you (and your ship and everyone/thing on it) some sort of speed boost? The one piece games did not allude to that though.

Ashura is Zorro covering himself in conqueror's haki. If you think about it, it makes sense. How can an illusion cut somebody? Its his conqueror's haki doing it. I love that Zoro got conquerer's haki. I feel like he should be the first one in the crew to have it. He's always by luffy's side, he was the first one to join the crew.
I feel like hybrid has a tradeoff, hes more agile but he got less scales so he can get wounded more easy. And Like was said his scale pattern looks like Luffy's devil fruit pattern in gear 4th, Kaido isn't indestructible in hybrid he has to fight carefully and this isn't his fighting style so he's taking way more damage than he needs to, I think it eventually adds up and takes a toll on his body and thats how Luffy beats him, due to the efforts of everyone maybe a flash back of all the damage kaido took since the war began or he starts feeling all the pain once his conqueoror's haki dries up due to Lyffy pushing him that much.
