Jim Grey's vocals are such a treat on this one.
you could say that about every one of their songs lol.
I have to be honest I am absolutely delighted to have the opportunity of hearing you guys talk about Rise Radiant in depth! I am loving these session breakdowns, and would definitely love to see some more! Maybe "Salt" next? :D
Yeah, I would love to see a detailed look at Salt. Such an amazing track
I was just thinking the same dude, it‘s incredible that they open those songs up like that and more bands should do that!
I watched 44:23 over and over. This part is just gorgeous, not only musically, but also lyrically because of how he explained that it's about guiding his daughter through life. This entire song just leaves me in awe.
And in a way, I get the impression that Jim is speaking directly to me too. I'm in my early twenties and my prog death band is almost finished our debut EP. I feel that a band like Caligula's Horse has successfully made their mark upon the world, having five full length albums behind them, but the young people like me are being handed the reigns, in a sense, through the message in this song. We are being told to go, to create, to make our impact, and nothing could be more encouraging.
Dude I would pay $50 to download all of these stems to just listen to the song on my own in different ways again and again. This is a masterpiece, with no exaggeration of the word.
I am obsessed with this song, big time. Hands down your best. Have had the last 2.30 minutes on loop. Has that gregorian chant vibe to it that makes it extremely charming.
I'd listen to just albums of Jim's isolated vocals tbh they sound so nice and calming 😌
Those vocal arrangements are so, so luscious. Would love to hear the full isolated vocal stems all the way through, or an "acoustic" version with some supporting instruments.
I really hope there are more of these for the new album!
Best prog song in the last decade. Gets me emotional about being a parent EVERY freaking time I hear it. Having it stripped down like this is such a gift! Long live CH and their children!
Found you guys about three months ago. Started with The hands are the hardest which I listened to an embarassing amount of times in a row because it reminded me of when I saw Toto live for some reason. Then I fell deep into all your albums. This is by far my most favorite song of yours. Lovely mix of technique, a lot going on while not exploding your ears and makes you listen more carefully. That and the gorgeous vocals just does it all.
Man I really love these. They've really helped me pay more attention to certain nuances of the album as well as understanding a bit more on the purpose you have on certain details to production. Keep 'em coming!!
Absolutely love these videos, and specially this one as it's my favourite song of the album. One thing I'd love to see is how you arrange these songs for live performances.
Cheers from Portugal!
I love these two. Graves, I'd LOVE! Stormchaser. Basically any of your songs. Just keep doing these please!
I can't help but start crying every time we get to "There is no Death" and onwards. I always have to wonder, if the Stormlight Archives inspired parts of this song given how similar some of the motifs are
I want hours worth of these, please. Could watch them all day.
Im three years late but Dragonfly needs one of these videos. For my sanity, please.
Hearing that Pain of Salvation is "in their DNA" was pretty cool (also a Leprous reference!).
Automn into the Ascent is one of the best things ever Written in Music. Its very intressting, Finding out my faforite part / vocal line is theirs too. "What a privilege it is to" listen to this Band
These videos are giving me more reasons to love composing and recording😍
Jim's foray into spoken-word was "ill-fated"!? Whaaaaat? That statement is gonna need some explanation! I'm sure there were more than just the two C-Horse poems, but they, at least, are unbelievable!
This is so cool! So nice to get to focus in so much detail on all of the different instruments/arrangements. You guys should broadcast this live and take in questions 🙃
My favorite female singer commenting on my favorite male singer, it's just so great.
Saludos Marcela ^_^
By far my favourite and most listened song of 2020. Amazing in every facet, and greater than the sum of its parts. Jim's isolated vocals are something else
You talk about the Purdie Shuffle and Pain of Salvation in one video? You guys have my heart
These videos make me feel like an insufficient listener. So much detail.
Thanks for the mention haha. This is great! So cool to hear about the process
I bet I cried to this song more than Jim has.
This is my favorite song on the record and possibly my favorite that you've written. Rise is probably my aoty so far
Being able to glimpse at all the different elements like this makes you appreciate the song so much more. Kind of reminds me of when you released those isolated vocal bits from The Tide, The Thief & River's End some years back, and I wish you'd do it again :D
I would definitely love more videos like this (casting my vote for Salt next as well)!
Please do more of these!
Loving these videos guys! This song is so wonderfully meaningful and emotional to me, thank you for breaking it down from your perspectives. The composition; both lyrically and musically is among my favorites ever. Keep up the good work and keep moving forward!
I’ve been listening to you guys for 2 years now and I am so glad that I was introduced by a friend of mine. I had already heard dream the dead, and loved it, but I never dug deeper into your guys’ discography until my friend showed me Rust. After that, I kept listening, and now you guys are just my favorite band. The City Has No Empathy, and Dragonfly have to be my favorite songs of all time. You’ve been an inspiration to me, and my reason for learning how to produce music in the first place. I hope you do more of this kind of video in the future, it’s cool hearing all the individual bits and pieces, like the pain of salvation bit. I had thought that they were in your guys sound when I first heard them, but to have my suspicions confirmed was surprising!
10/10 album! 11/10 track. really a big story
Omg Im loving this series. Everyone is so smart, entertaining and insightful!
I really enjoy these videos! These deep dive videos really highlight all the nuances in your songwriting
This is fucking great, all of you are so talented and cool, always love it when new material comes out, love you guys
I really love to hear how such a recording was created. It is really interesting!
Avenged Sevenfold has done a whole series doing this, if you're a fan of them! Highly recommend checking that out because their songs have dozens of layers like this one does. There is so much to be learned from that group of musicians.
Greetings from Tundrel HQ in sunny Canberra! Really enjoyed this...gotta love teles!
This is super interesting! Have been listening to this album every day for the past 3 months. Greetings from South Africa
What a treat. Salt next? Loved the vocal breakdown
Such an incredible song
Masterpiece.
Just came across you guys very recent. The Ascent is a killer track!
Thanks for doing this, guys. It's very insightful and really fun to watch.
wow!
Yeah, you must do it for every song in the "In Contact" album
These videos are really cool, I always like the deep dive into things you can't really get a perspective on otherwise. Like you mentioned, hearing your thoughts now on older songs through the stems would be interesting. Moments is my favourite album and it would be something else to hear you describe why it's likely not something you would ever re-create.
Awesome stuff fellas!
I really appreciate the level of detail and insight into these tracks, you guys are all Legends! Clearly a band that should be huge at this point with the catalogue yous have.
These are absolutely fantastic videos, all the details just make the entire composition even better.
Thank you so much for doing these deep-dive videos. It is super interesting to hear about some decisions you have made for the songs and "lore" if you will. Also, it's interesting to hear the deeper meanings to lyrics, great to hear all the different tones separated and gear that was used. Keep these coming! We appreciate it :D
Awesome. Thank you!
Jim's vocal är absolutly magical!
Next I really wanna se an in deepth of Salt
We need one more hour video only for the outro please
wow!!!
This was A M A Z I N G
oh my i didnt expect something like this
Any plans for more guitar tabs?
I'd pay good money for tabs.
We're slowly getting through tabbing it all!
@@caligulashorse That'll teach you to make them so tricky!
@@caligulashorse I write in guitar pro for this exact reason; I don't want to worry about doing it later
@@caligulashorse any news about that?
This was great looking forward to the salt episode
thank you so much for these videos! i love every bit of it
50:40
Thank you!
LEZZZZZ GOOOO!!!! \m/
kiwi accent was cool to hear from Jared
CAN YOU GUYS DO A LIVESTREAM CONCERT LIKE SOME OTHER BANDS HAVE BEEN DOING (LEPROUS/BTBAM) LOVE YOU
I'd love to hear how you approach writing the padding/background riffs. Is that off the cuff or is everything calculated?
yaaaaaasssss
the best heavy metal bands are Caligula's horse and Without End
Why does he look so calm when these lyrics mess me up every time
You should do a Christmas song that be sick ❤❤

sorry couldn't help myself
I hate that ending so much. Because everything (guitars, drums, bass, even vocal harmonies) was killed leaving only one voice at the end. It just sounds off dynamically.
That is exactly why it works for me. Like a massive wave crashing
Probably for you. Caligula's track endings have always been shit for me.
Jim Grey's vocals are such a treat on this one.
wow!
