SNK separates and isolates their 3d fgs treating them like something that must be forgotten. They tried to get in the 3d fg market since the 90s but always failed to make them really good just like the mainstream ones like TK, VF, SC, etc. There was a 3d Samsho and a 3d Fatal Fury, then KOF MI series in the 00s and this Samsho Sen lastly. And in all these cases the original chars from those games never got in the mainline series... except only Shiki because she became too popular because with SvC Chaos. Its a shame they are treated that way because all these rough 3d games have some interesting original chars. Now look the current approach of NRS's latest games: it became common to feature some chars from the MK 3d trilogy, even though that is not a glorious moment of the series, and some of those chars werent even good. But they got new looks, moves, plot, etc and became more interesting. In this aspect NRS became a good example for the rest of the industry.
Wow, a debut in the channel and a great surprise. (Though not for positive reasons) Well, at least the opening was very well made and impressive. If only the gameplay followed the same high quality, this could have been a nice 3d conversion for the series. Not to mention the importance of the genre gaining a new weapon 3d fg to walk together with the lone Soul Calibur.
Hey, the mexican Leona from the past. I think this Samurai Shadown game have some pretty good ideas, I would like to see that mechanics of sercenated limbs or decapitations in the next Samurai Shodown besides the cutting in half mechanic, I think would add more drama to the battle, something like the "fatalities" from Samurai Shadown 4 you could have the option of kill your opponent by cutting in half, decapitation or maybe you would rather to spare the life of your opponent and only cutting his hand, or maybe this would be some kind of humilliation, I think they could apply that to the next game.
This game's "fatalities" are a pretty competent (for the time it was made) 3d adaptation of the early Samsho violent finishers. They are a full cutscene with dramatic angles, taking advantage of 3d technology. I dont agree with the gameplay aspects, like the way it happens when the opponent still has a large hp, but the idea itself of the finisher being a dramatic cutscene is great. Ironically that makes this game from 08 look more modern than the new Samsho that just imitates the violent finishers of the 2d games. I disagreed with that idea since the first time i saw it in the new game.
This was sure not the best response from SNK to a Capcom initiative: SF4, the new 3d/2.5d conversion of SF, was also released in 2008... shortly after Samsho Sen but actually announced before. But it makes me wonder how SNK and Samsho history would have gone if this game was a very successful 3d conversion like SF4... What if the positive sales motivated SNK to invest really hard on 3d graphics and animation of the future KOF 14? What if the positive reception to a 3d fg from SNK encouraged them to keep the KOF Maximum Impact series for at least little longer? What if the earnings motivated them to revive Fatal Fury much earlier?

7:09 Issen! . . . Angelica looks more like what happens when Guts and Caska (both from "Berserk") have twin daughters that were mysteriously taken from them. They would take after their mother.
Not gonna lie, imo, this's the direction Samurai Shodown *should've* ultimately gone, with the *only* things changed being that the colors were brighter and more saturated (the muting makes everything look like it's in a nuclear winter), and that they used the *8-way run* system instead of the 3D dodge; oh, and Draco should have to reload his shotgun after every *two* shots, since that's how shotguns work *irl* , and it'd actually make it decently *balanced* .
The way i see it, it must not be because it turned 3d, but because its just too bad. Sure there were criticisms from purists for the mere fact it turned to 3d, but a lot of criticisms focused on how bad the 3d gameplay is. Because 3d tech and gameplay evolved really nice since the 90s, and that roughness was unacceptable. For reference, Soul Calibur 4 is from the same year of this game.
But there's also the point that 2d fg specialists like Capcom, SNK, and the MK's devs, always wanted to get into that 3d fg market and always failed pathetically. Like SFEX, Rival Schools, MK4, and the early Samsho 3d games are all from the same time of Tekken 3 and yet look much rougher, like a generation behind. Then a generation later, SFEX3, RS2/Project Justice and the MK 3d trilogy look much inferior to TK4, VF4, SC1 and DOA2, that are from the same period. And when KOF MI came it was very inferior to TK4 and those other 3d fgs, and when MKA came there was already TK5 and SC3. And lets not forget that Capcom had a 1st part 3d crossover that was cancelled in 2003 because it was too bad, and CvS3 was planned to be in 3d and was cancelled. So Capcom's fg devs were so incompetent in 3d that the games werent even completed. So its like the 2d fg specialists, when making 3d fgs, were always many steps behind the 3d fg specialists, that are polishing their craft since the 90s. They never managed to get close to them, and every sequel of the mainstream 3d fgs showed nice changes over the 00s. And there was a point in the 00s where they all gave up 3d fgs. SNK quit after KOF MI R.A and this Samsho Sen (expectedly).
@@carlosaugusto9821 it's not some misunderstood gem. People understood what this game was when it was out. The superior presentation of this title is wasted on the "WTF am I doing" gameplay ala Art of Fighting 3. Such a shame. To this very day, the game is visually stunning.
