Missed out a video sequence with som pro/con. The Takasago Excel rims Improves performance for sporty ADV with stronger and lighter rims with Tube Type tires. Be able to lower (or vary) tire pressure with rimlocks. This set of wheels lowered the weight with 4,5Kg, alot more than i expected. This specific set have BIB Mousse in the rear and tube in the front. With two wheel set i will be able to switch between ADV travel set up with tubeless tires and wide rims for better stability and load capacity. and Sporty off tarmac ADV set up with the Takasago Excel Power Part wheels.
This Excel set with BiB Mousse in the rear and tube at front is purchased second hand from a friend. I have actually tested them on his bike but with Mousse both front and real. KTM Powerpart have all parts except from rimlock, tires and mousse/tube. They actually may have the rimlocks.
Fantastic video. I feel so much smarter about wheels. Oscar worthy video. I wish we all had a moto workshop like Robert's. Nice. I could eat off that floor. So well organized.
😂 Thanks, a tad more cramped in my garage. A lot more fun to wrench together with a friend. Two wheel sets lile this is really great. I have waited for this opportunity and it makes a great difference.
Hahaha... this is just another testament why you and we should do much more work like this together 😂🙌🏻 So much fun when one can help with the camera and ask why this and that 🙏🏻 Great one, and yes... you can easily see the difference in U and V shape from the old to the new tire. Nice to see you upgrading your lunatic orange craziness Tjommi 😂🔥 Like more grip offroad is what you need 🤩

I just did the same on my '24 790 except I changed the rear rim on the Powerpart wheel to a 3" and made it into a tubeless with the 3M tape. Didn't buy the second set of rotors and ABS ring. Too much $$$ 😂 Nice video.
3" seems like a good choice to get less of a compromise onroad and for transports/ADV with a packed up bike. No need for two sets then. I think my narrow set will sit on the bike for all rides. But never say never.... and longer trip is planned this year so I might take 50/50 tires then. Thanks for you comment and watching, Happy Trails 💪🤠🔥✊️✊️
Super nice video! For me personally having 2 sets of wheels is perfect when you change terrain a lot. I only run one set of wheels on my T7 and I change tyres every winter/summer. I live in Belgium so winter is just pure mud and deep sand out here so that whole season I run Rebel xplorer tyres. When spring arrives I change to normal ADV tyres like the mitas enduro trail XT+.
Great input, there are alot of reasons. Seasonal or ride type reasons. Local sporty ADV rides vs ADV travel, are my reasons. I bet that the original set won't be used much but nice to have with a ser of 50/50 tires to travel more quiet with hard surface grip.
Hi Matthias, smaller rims is a good idea! I also have 2 sets for my KTM 690 Enduro, all 4 rims original dimensions, for Enduro riding - thats meens for me 50% more hard enduro/single trails than TET, no highways Or Long Journey on Asphalt, I use the set with Mitas E09 with normal tubes, my experience: 1) for lower pressure as 0,9 you need necessarily rim locks 2) Mitas E09 is hard enough to Drive Home in case of flat tube, even 60 kmh at tarmac, but 3) too hard to change tires by yourself with Tire irons, 4) therefore I Ride this Kombination without carraying any mounting tools with me to Save weight, my conclusion After ca 6000 km offroad: fit s me well, very happy, prevents me thinking about using Mousse furthermore, Stay tuned & Save - Greets Arno
Thats great info Arno, never tried the E09. I had Mitas C21 front and C02 rear on the 690. Bought a lot of sets at one occasion so used them for many years. The rear was brutal, a real gravelroad/forest trail destroyer 👀😅.
Nice Mattias! I have the same rims on my 890, they do grip better, especially rear tire, there I felt the most difference. Easier for gravel wheelies 💪🏻 the tires doesn’t last as long but worth it for the better handling
Would share that grip is enhanced with narrow tire because weight of vehicle (+rider) contacts ground through small area increasing pressure per square inch. Thank you for another inspiring, entertaining and educational video.
Thanks 🙏 And with tubes and rimlocks instead of tubeless tires you can lower the tirepressure significantly. That makes your tires get a shape more like caterpillar in the traction direction, with a significant increase in traction.. There are many aspects.
Nice video and a great project Mattias...it's going to be a great bike. It's nice having different wheel sets...for my XR650R i have the original wheels, which are 18'' and 21'' , a set of 17'' Talon Excel Supermoto wheels and a 17''/19'' Excel set for a 'trendy' Scrambler vibe!😂. One day i will build it into the Baja desert king it deserves to be! Look forward to seeing the results of your labour Mattias!, cheers Steve
Nice guys, I have a pair of excel rims with Haan hubs on my shopping list, for narrower and better grip off-road primarily but also to save weight. I have my favorite Norwegian mechanic Ingvar to weigh the standard T7 rims with no tube or tire installed and waiting for the numbers
@ yeah, tires are hugely different, I remember the Mitas enduro trail XT+ 140 width is more than 2 kgs heavier than the Pirelli Scorpion Rally 150 width (not the STR) which is a crazy difference.
Morning Mattias. I saw you working the other day. Don't get the front and rear mixed up. I have a set of those with Hahn hubs on my Tenere. Top quality The narrows handle much quicker in the steering. Get a better bite on the sides like in a gully/ditch when you are pinched up about to side down and drown out. Robert the dog lover of the lover dog. Hard to say. All good my Nordic Adv friends. You all take care. Good vid.
Thanks Sam, all yours are allright after the "Bourbonstreet"..? This wheelset will be great. Also great to switch between 50/50 to 100 offroad in different situations. Ezza liked to hang in the garage as much as we did! Lowered alot of unsprung weight, 4,5Kg which is really good!
@@Braapncamp That's quite a sum, I reckoned with that. At first sight I would rather go riding for that money. If you choose the new wheels, Mattias, then they have to deliver - let the good times roll. And enjoy Robert's warm man cave.
Makes you have a lot more confidence with better tires but the downside is that you do not want to have anything else but fresh endurotires after that. I run tracker in the rear and starcross 6 hard in the front with UHD tubes and the stock mitas e07 on the stock rims. The bike also feel alot lighter with the more narrow rims.
Yupp, will go back to my 690 favourites. Trackers are cheap and definitely ok. Durability so so. Nice to be back to a lot more choises again. I habe wanted this option since day one but the timing was now.
Hi Mattias, do you need to get a road approval for the narrower rims in the bike's paperwork in Sweden, as we need to get in Germany? I found a kind of industry standard paper that relates tyre size to rim size and with the standard T7 rear rim I should be able to get 140 wheel signed in the paperwork. I'll still need to talk to my TÜV authority, which so far made great jobs on my vehicles. Which tyre size do you run now? May the winter be short to ride off-salt roads & tracks, Bernd 💙💛🏁🤛🏼
No, we need to keep an eye on this ourselves. The authority could refuse if You ger our of spec. But i do nor need to with them to get an specific approval. 90/90 front and 140 rear. I agree, would like some riding season again.

KTM PowerParts har såklart både dessa fälgar och bromsskivor samt ABS-ringar.
