great video! i hate when people make excuses for okafor like "he was in the wrong generation" or whatever bs. he would probably be another armen gilliam
Man gotta give you hella props for being so talented and using that talent to produce something great my friend. Breakdown and edit was immaculate man keep at it!
Hello, I was watching/listening to this video, and the background music/noise of the arcade games was making me pause the video and check my other tabs to make sure it wasn't coming from some other source. I understand as a commenter on the internet my "opinion" holds little value, but I hope you take it into consideration while selecting audio in the future. Thank you, and good content. Keep working at it, you are already really good at this.
Jahlil just wanted to hit middys and post touches. No team was going to give that especially at a time when the league was shifting further to the perimeter than ever before. Jokic gets the post touches but with the intention of getting a better look from there. Jahlil’s mid range/post game was his first and only option while that part of Jokic’s game is his last option. Jokic is more than happy with a win and 15 assists. It’s literally most teams game plans to limit Jokic’s playmaking and force him to beat you as a scorer.
Okafor was not a good defender and lacked the shooting touch and playmaking ability of Jokic. This made him unable to coexist with Embiid. Thought he would have a chance after dropping weight and working on an outside game. But that the way of the league
Jhalil just hit the league at the worst possible time and got shots on the worst teams for his Development. He was kinda decent on the Pelicans but the league was hyper focused on small lineups and the Alvin Gentry Pelicans were really bad about it, we barely played him.
bro the video literally pointed out jahlil's terrible intagibles, no court vision, no pick and roll game, and overall stupidity to his plays. all with video proof but you're still giving him excuses on some bs. If that was the reason why didn't myles turner turn out the same way or jokic like come on bro.
Brilliant breakdowns and content. Would love to see the same for other bigs like Marvin Bagley and Mo Bomba. I assume they are similar weaknesses but Marvin was a star in highschool and college while Mo had all of the physical tools and seemed a bit similiar to Myles Turner at Texas
When the 76ers drafted Okafor I was somewhat disappointed I was more interested in guys like DLo, Emmanuel Mudiay (who didn’t pan out) and even trading back for a guy like Stanley Johnson, Winslow or Booker. They totally didn’t need a big. Imo even though they went with Okafor I thought well at least he will be a NBA player for them to package to pair someone with Noel and Embiid but, he was the total opposite… Just shows that these analysts that think guys will be safe NBA players usually wind up not being that.
blame the 76ers drafting 3 Centers. Okafor, Nerlens and Embiid. tanking half a decade only to end up with 1 generational player in Embiid. the rest were thrown out. GM and development of that team are below average.
Great video, it answered a question that I’ve had for the best part of a decade literally since okafors rookie season. I remember back then people were saying the centre position would die out. People would always say that okafor would’ve done well in the 90s because of his back to the basket post up game and he was in the wrong era but this never made sense to me because Jokic and Embiid play with their back to the basket and have literally won the last 4 MVPs. This video broke it down very well. Okafor is just trash lmaoo
This was a great video. I'd love to see a vid about how Jokic despite his athletic flaws could still be serviceable defensively with the right cast but Okafor couldn't.
to add to what the other replies said, jokic is also taller and tries harder. But the intelligence is really the main aspect as big man defense is a lot about position and anticipation, jokic's physical traits still hold him back defensively IMO esp in the playoffs but in the regular season he does enough to have neutral impact
I don't think there's anything wrong with reactive players, so long as those reactions are lightning quick with elite instincts. Hakeem Olajuwon is a prime example of someone who didn't need proactive reads to be effective because he reactions were simply that good.
That is true but even Hakeem never rose to the standard of Bron/MJ cuz he wasn't a high level playmaker on O (made up by having goat level D). I think Hakeem was definitely an outlier in that respect anyways because like you said he had a goat tier bag
Okafor was just in a bad situation he came into an overcrowded frontcourt in philly and he was there a year or so before his style died altogether in the league he had a lot of potential to be an elite center
Jahli could’ve still been in the nba if he had a great middy and good defense he could’ve been a star if he worked on those and not getting drafted to the 76ers
It’s sad you nit picked a rookies game so hard when all it would have taken was ,ore playing time more trust from the organization and more workouts on his game..jahlil didn’t get that..,the supers gave up on him soon as embid healed up n Simmons was drafted…okafar gave them 17 n 7 rookie season I think it’s very sad that European players with limited athleticism will get more if a chance because they can shoot or pass but American players with similar game sets get iced out….
idk i think okafor couldve been a successful NBA player, he just got thrown under the bus by the Colangelos in Philly which fucked with his confidence and led to him getting bounced around a ton without the chance to really settle into a scheme fully.
Randle does so many underappreciated small things, his screening and rebounding is elite, helps him stay on the court when hes trolling in other aspects
nah...i think jahlil just got drafted by the wrong franchise. the things that he didn't do well couldve have been easily developed. he was young. only did 1 year of college. you cant underestimate how playing for the wrong franchise can hurt or kill a career. You not gone tell me KAT was great at posting up, and Karl was a great shot blocker at kentuky but in the league he's been just as bad as a defender as jahlil was.
Bro basically just called Okafor stupid 😭😭
stupid AND uncoordinated
no disrespect was meant💯
And lazy 💀
This is the best breakdown of why Okafor wasn’t successful. Everybody else takes the lazy route & just says “the post game became outdated”

Gonna glaze a bit here but awesome video bro. Great analysis that went way past the generic stuff, plus that fool's gold analogy was fire
Saying anything good about anyone = Glazing to todays youth.
This was a great video and breakdown. Great take on the proactive vs reactive.

And he’s generational cause he’s elite at both so there’s really can’t stop him, only slow him.
I remember Jahlil being a great scorer but a shitty rebounder and defender. That's a no-no when you're a big man.
Simple okafor game was simply not fitting for todays mba game while jokic strength was playmaking

Do a video on why I didn’t make the nba at 5’8 230 , definitely have huge upside don’t understand why the league won’t take me

To add his passing got exposed in the league
Scouting techniques back then were just worse imo because a skillset's like Okafor's shouldn't have been seen as a top 5 pick in the first palce
