I'm a Newbie to this and 70 yo LOL I find Traxxas is great that something 5 years ago can still apply today. blame my little brother, my first car was a used Slash LCG, 4x4 but I did upgrade to many many Blue Aluminum parts alot of cool stuff. today I pick up my new slip gear old one was very loose , this will fix it Thank You,
Appreciate the info! I just stopped by my local shop today and picked up all the E-Revo parts. Then when I got home realized I should have just picked up an extra shaft & spur gear so I'd have an extra complete assembly for the toolbox. Oh well, I'll grab the extra parts next time to complete a spare. Thanks!
You need more subscribers because you're doing gods work. Im glad I came across your channel, first video I watched was for shock oil so I know where to start and now I am here. I have my slipper clutch tight so it's always spinning, I haven't broke any driveline parts from it but then again, I'm in dirt, mud, and out in the desert of California. I'm sure I would break them if I was on high traction surfaces like road or pavement.
My Traxxas Rustler 4x4 VXL was having a similar problem. I just tightened the Slipper clutch Nut. But eventually i think ill have to Upgrade. Had it since November 2020.
With aluminum pad is side with marks on it face down or up and when i took my rear clip off i had flakes of aluminum in there is that from a loose slipper?
I’ve melted a gearbox on my 2wd traxxas rustler vxl when doing a speedrun on 3s batteries. Lot of whining all the sudden. Thought maybe it would be ok for a couple of runs but to my surprise it wasn’t.
I personally followed this video step by step with all the parts you put in the links. And find that there is a lot of rubbing going on when I slip the rear end back on. Any ideas as to why and how to fix this?? Would love for it to work
Great video! Many will lean a bunch. However, there's one 'oops' in your installation procedure at 12:10 .....;/ In complete contradiction, and according to Traxxas, the FLAT sides of the pads go against (i.e. face) the steel disc/plate which they rub against ("critical" for maximum friction). Thus the sides with the rounded edges should face the front of the truck, towards the spur gear. In other words, the rounded edges should be facing DOWN when placing them onto the pins of the hub!
Will those metal slipper clutch pads fit on the Traxxas Rustler VXL slipper clutch? As the standard ones on the Rustler are made out of some kind of material?
Yea my 1/16 is making sounds because we were ramping it and it slammed and the sound matches about with this so I think the beating broke in it or something
Now I have to go look. I know we always used the revo rebuild kits because it has the long aluminum pads in it. But im not 100% sure I have the revo pressure plates now. I have created a lot of problems in mine. I ran it tightened all the way to lock. Then I locked the rear diff up. Its an axle snapping machine. The $80 MIP axles im a little more protective of. I think ill back mine way down. Running 2.8 prolines doesnt help either.
All guys voices will do that, if yours hasn’t then it’s bcus your still too much a puppy, and gotta wait a couple yrs. He coulda edited it out, but didn’t, showing he’s genuine, confident, and just a real dude
Your slipper may be too loose and need tightening or it may be worn and need a rebuild. If a rebuild is needed, you can put the aluminum pads in the 2wd slipper clutch. They're included with the Traxxas heavy duty slipper rebuild kit (5352R). I believe Hot Racing also sells aluminum slipper pads too.
@@markoftheus one year to late I figured it out. I needed to go full tight with zero play. Also don’t know why we watch videos from morons like this as he does zero replies
Can anyone help dont know whats going on with my rc but its the second time i have to put in a slipper clutch i dont know the reason why it keeps going out
Great video, I’m watching this because I think my slipper clutch went bad. Long story short I was driving on street high revving and donuts and I noticed car not moving and saw some smoke come out of the gear casing and smelled like burning rubber.
I’m having an issue cuz I replaced the gear on my slash 4X4 but when I put it back in I tighten it and losened it and did many adjustments but it still isn’t spinning the drive shaft but the pinion is spinning. Please help!!
If the pinion gear is spinning, and your pinion/spur gears are set correctly, it should be spinning the spur gear and then rotating your drive shaft. Is your spur gear spinning? If your pinion and spur gear are spinning but the driveshaft is not, then your slipper clutch could be too loose.
@@SlashNBash they’re both spinning after closer looking I noticed my central drive shaft isn’t spinning but the gears are. It’s rocking back and forth and is properly aligned in both differentials. I think I’m gonna take it to a shop because I want it to work properly after I just put almost all alloy parts on it with fans n stuff. But if u have anything u think could be wrong please let me know.
Much better, its a nice upgrade if you do a lot of jumping and it dosent wear out as easily. I also like the center differential upgrade for better handling if you plan on driving on a track.
Awesome video my friend. But Hot Racing makes the best parts, in my opinion. Especially slipper clutches, hardened steel gears and aluminum motor mounts...They make slipper clutch Eliminators as well. But if you use one of those you probably want to get MIP steel drive shafts, possibly upgrade your diffs as well
To upgrade the stock slipper on the Slash 4x4 or Stampede 4x4, you'll need the larger hub and pressure plate (part number 5351) and the heavy duty slipper rebuild kit (part number 5352R).
Lol, yup.. Just did a speed run on my rustler. Had just upgraded to a hobbywing max8 combo w/ 2200kv motor. I hit 55mph when I blew all 3 pads, all gone. Made that wretched screeching sound. I was like 'know what!!' 😂 Will the revo upgrade work on a rustler 2wd, as is, i have a revo mod1 34T spur on it? Wondering if I should even get rid of the clutch system since I'm only doing speed runs on this car. You can check her out on my channel. Great vid on explaining the clutch function. 👍👍
@@bramskahoon4072 yup, lesson learned lol. I now have aluminum Revo pads on her & haven't had an issue since, gotten her up to 84mph!.... But then I snapped an MIP axle lol, tracked the issue down to worn bearings that were grinding, causing the axle to overheat & then snapping. Upgraded to ceramic bearings & it's much better now 😎
For how much their cars cost and what Traxxas stands for they should have come up with a more simple, user friendly, reliable and maintainance free system during the last 20 years... Good video btw

did you use Hot Racing TRX15HSL Aluminum Hard Anodized Long Slipper Clutch Pads???
This is the video I was looking for , thanks buddeeyy

Why did you change to the other hole when remounting the slipper?

What size are the shims he used to take the movement out of the slipper clutch
The Traxxas teflon washers are 0.5mm thick, Traxxas PN 1985
Quel sont les roues que tu utilise ? Merci
I didn't know about the nylon shim! Thanks!
Will the upgrade work on the LCG ultimate?
Yes. The ultimate uses identical hardware except it already has the blue aluminum bearing carrier/adapter (6893X).
Thanks so much for the video man! It helped me sooo much!!
Do you use 3s lipo?

Will those metal slipper clutch pads fit on the Traxxas Rustler VXL slipper clutch? As the standard ones on the Rustler are made out of some kind of material?
Yes, the aluminum pads fit. They're the same size as the fiber pads.
What about the aluminum pads? I don’t see the part number in the description. Just got the other parts but I don’t see the pads
They're included in the traxxas heavy duty slipper rebuild kit, part number 5352R.

What is a plastic bearing nut?I've never heard of it before.
It is the part on the shaft between the spring and spur gear bearing. It is what the bearing in the motor plate goes around.
That is a spacer
Did this work well
7:40 The pads are made of graphite

nice job explaining the process thank you.
Would you consider converting this to a monster slash?

As you add more power to the car adjust clutch pad to suit otherwise you'll burn the pads as you mentioned

The slipper pads are definitely not made out of rubber.

It's some kind of fiber blend

Does this work for the Rustler 4x4 VXL?
The Rustler 4x4 VXL comes with the heavy duty slipper and aluminum pads from factory.
