That you put so much thought into details like where snow drifts would gather really makes this shine as a terrain piece; not only does it look good, it looks realistic. With the way everything is frosted, with the icicles and snow drifts around the stairs, it reminds me very much of Castle Black from Game of Thrones.

Hi mel. I did some experiments with snow afew years back and came upon a product that really knocks the static grass snow out of the park. Its called ''ultra fine snow white nail glitter'' and is sold on ebay from a bunch of different sellers out of china for about 15£ for a 1 kilo bag. If nothing else the pricing makes it more than competitive so I decided to give it a go not really expecting much. Its made for nail art or scrapbooking. IMHO this stuff looks much better than the products being made for wargaming and is very versatile for making both clean and dirty snow. And it has that distinct sparkly effect that real snow has.

I'm a newbie of polymer clay and when I watched this upload (my 1st one) I thought this channel is going to be so helpful to me in my crafting. So I'm going to binge watch more and will definitely be tuning into you other up-and-coming tutorials.
Interesting, I have hairspray around anyway as an adhesion promoter for the 3D printer, so this would add a second use. The flocking should be cheap to make too, just get a used kitchen grinder and throw in bits of white foam padding blocks from the hardware store.
Brilliant mel cheers been looking for a way to do a winter Russian scene for a build got the precision snow and ice yesterday its amazing stuff but AK have alot of cool ice resin stuff out now I'm going to try soon I'll definitely get the white flock iv got vallijo white pigment white oils for making washes and then the snow and ice for over top of vehicles etc ! But was looking for a cheaper way of doing the base layer and making it deep! The footprints that came out in the snow and ice stuff is so cool lol!

How is the powder snow sticking to the ground (even after blowing it as you said) when you sprinkle it on? How did it stick to the top surface of the rocks but not the THIN sides?
Just got back into modelling, and I'm loving the videos... quick question... at 8.18 in the video, you start using what you call "caulk"... just to clarify (cos I've heard others mix the terms up!) - is it chalk, or is it silicone sealant (like you'd put around your base of your shower?!) Thanks in advance, and apologies if this seems a silly question

I do have a question. i see you have the white flock in bulk, can you please tell me where I can obtain large amounts of "snow" that is not $7.00 for 3 o.????? Man you are so thorough. I cant waite for the book.
Great build! Have you ever tried to incorporate glitter effects? Snow, especially deep snow, tends to sparkle and some kind of glitter as a sub-layer might be cool. I plan to give it a go, but at my rate its a couple of months/years away ;)
You know, the more I see this, the more I think you ought to make some banners and things to attach to the walls because it looks quite plain at the moment for the structures themselves.
Seeing that you use matt varnish to seal it up, doesn't it take the glittering away? That's one of the tricky parts with snow and ice, I suppose, having it shine right, not too much but enough. Just like there is a wet effect Also, with other techniques like plaster, gels and pastes, would you say caulking is the best solution over all, or is it just most convenient to you for reasons like price or handling? Looks good what you're doing with it for sure.

I was wondering if a mix of talc and crushed salt might make good 72 scale snow...

He adds ground glass for that. It doesn't show up well on camera.
Crushed glass will do that. But be sure to use a mask and gloves. It's rather tricky.
