    My goodness, what a superb performance! One can feel the energy,, the emotion, the excellent balance between lightness and power, the passion, joy, anticipation and the brilliance in the melody!
    Pianist N. Gvetadze expresses elegance, artistry, passion and beauty. And what it is amazing is her expertise at conveying Beethoven's exact interpretation of this magnificent Piano Concerto. AWESOME RENDITION and beautiful acoustic recording. Extraordinary conductor as well.

    Anyone (especially an armchair critic) who is distracted by the way the beautiful Ms Gvetadze's appearance should simply look away or close their eyes and revel in the tender grace of this performance. I love every moment of it and she gives an outstanding performance.

    That deceptively simple piano opening is one of the most challenging musical phrases in all concerto repertoire. Gvetadze gets it just right in my opinion.
    A performance worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with the best.

    • @marcvincenti6720
      @marcvincenti6720 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You're sure right about the opening. It's beautifully mystifying, in this most beautiful of concerto. I used to sit at the piano for long periods, hoping it would somehow come out of my fingers magically right; but it never did. It's the devil of a tricky thing! M.V.

      Marc Vincenti I've been listening for five decades to this and other meat and potatoes repertoire - divine of course. Now in fact comments from pianists such as yourself and Ms. Foster enlighten us unfortunate non-players. I went back to the opening right away. Never heard of Ms. Gvetadze, players, or conductor till now - a great, transparent read. The HD sure adds - thanks 24classics.

    I have listened to number 4 many times, and there are many excellent performances out there. The emotion of the piece, the energy makes this music that when played technically played well must be infused with a high level of emotion. I like this a great deal; Ms. Gvtadze plays with technical brilliance but with power and majesty too. Very pleasing.

    Previous to this appearance in this medium, I had not heard of this pianist. But judging from the first set (movement) and now the utterly heart-wrenching second, I'm very well impressed. One cannot be a novice to negotiate this concerto, which I call my favorite of all Beethoven's five such. She does it complete justice, with the help of an equally sympathetic directorial interpretation and skilled orchestra. Hard to believe that I only now discovered this performance, ten years after the fact. I thank you heartily! JAT

    Not all performances are equal. So much can go wrong. This one is special. The piano is good. The orchestra is amazing. It is a rare moment when everything works. They all must have felt fantastic afterwards. And not only that but Nino Gvetadze is beautiful. This concerto is a delicate flower which can easily be killed with too much braggadocio on the part of the soloist. For lovers of this concerto. I would like to recommend Eric Lu's performance at the 2018 Leeds final.

    Once I missed an invitation ticket to a concert in which a young pianist was consolidating his fame. Fortunately, the festival was broadcasted, and the marvel of the radio at home reduced the forty blocks that separated me from the music hall, to forty centimeters. I had read about the unusual opening of this pianoconcert but today, 70 years later, I still experience the surprising thrill that those first bars made on me.

      I have never heard about the person you mentioned. Georgian alphabet is approximately 2000 years old. Some think that it was created in 3th century B.C., others say 4th-5th centuries A.D. Georgian priest Nikoloz Cholokashvili helped to publish the first printed book in Georgian in Italy, 1629. In Georgia the first printed book in Georgian was published in 1709. Anthim the Iberian(Georgian) with his pupil Mihai Istvanovici were the founders of the first Georgian printing press in Tbilisi, Georgia.

      Are you Hungarian? Hungarian painter Mihaly Zichy made illustrations for "The Knight in the Panther's Skin"(Georgian poem by Shota Rustaveli) at the request of the Georgian intelligencia. He painted 35 pictures in total. The publishing commission of the work of "The Knight in the Panther's Skin" chose 27 pictures to be included in the publication. The painter refused to take payment for the works, so impressed was he by the poem itself. Instead, he gifted the works to the Georgian people.

    I wish I knew more about music. I might be able to get a piano and continue my lessons on it. You are so wonderful. Thanks. You encourage me. I am in Ocean Hill, Brooklyn, New York, a very young 77 years old because of my yoga and karate practices. I lived with an artist whom I seemed to turn into a novelist. It was his Lathem Hotel suite in Manhattan, NY. He only listened to classical music for the whole four months when I lived with him. I was homeless. Well, I was attending the Columbia University when he met me. He read my short stories I wrote for a Virginia Commonwealth University advance creative writing class. Next thing I knew he was writing on a book. Both of us were living in the Park Avenue Armory Men's Shelter in Manhattan. Then, I moved into an International Students Center on 88th Street blacks from Central Park. I would visit him, John Henry, while he was still in the shelter. Finally, he got a job as a graphics arts designer. I didn't see him for ten years. Met him in front of an acting school where he was apparently helping out. He turned to some art students and said proudly, "This is Charles Abernathy!" He gave me his Eas 27th Street Address off 5th Avenue. When I visited him, I found that he had written about ten unpublished books. He had printed and bound them in the print shop where he worked as a graphics artist. He let me move in with him. As I said he only listened to classical music. Years before, I had ordered some classical tapes. Now I have come full circle back to classics.

    I agree that she comes very close to the pureness of the opening theme, but I do think there is ajust a tad bit too much indulgence in her theme, but it still is far better than most of the banal and boring openings by most pianists. What a true masterpiece this is!

    Lovely tone and spirit at the keyboard. As beautiful as her playing is, listening to her orchestra and her orchestra playing for her moved me most deeply. This is music making - and it's why I listen. Ensemble playing. For me, interpretation came second. Music making has it by several lengths in this performance.

    Perfection personified comes to mind. What an exquisite rendition. Emotionally provocative. It stirs the very soul to exhilarating depths that must have been the stimulus that the master himself was inspired by to create such beautiful work. Kudos Ms Gvetadze. Your performance is spell binding to say the least.ex
