  • Improve your shop efficiency and workflow. While dedicated tool carts have their merits, there are some tools and tool holders that need to be at the machine. You might think it wouldn't make a huge difference but it truly has. For me, there's no going back! Don't forget to download the F3D file so you can machine your own. Let's dive in!

    Can you include a longer and close up view of the finished product with enough dwell time to actually see the details? Either still pictures, or a slow pan?
    I know that you design your videos for watching on a large monitor, and making speeds and feeds and tool data readable on a mobile device is probably asking too much, but can you throw us a bone and make annotations large enough to read on mobile, and show close ups of the parts so that we can see the details, preferably without having to pause the video? Maybe do it as bonus footage after the end credits, just a minute or two of close ups or something?

    PET has a low surface energy so most adhesives do not wet out adequately. Try using a primer like loctite 770, it is an extra step but it might be worth it.

    Love your station setup, Ed! Gotta give us a follow up in a few months so we can see all the bobble heads, mag bases stuck to every ferrous surface, and 6 more pairs of pliers all over the place 😂 On a serious note, how do those ER collet tightening fixtures work? do they just hold the shank of the TTS while you can gronk with both wrenches? EDIT: NM I just found out about 1 way bearings. Neat!

    Hey NYCNC, your comment on the problem with the dual fog busters pushing chips into each other gave me an idea, and it would the perfect kind of project for you guys: make a 4 nozzle air coolant or fog buster with each at 90 degree quadrants. Each would have its own solenoid. You would control which one is on based on the direction of cut, possibly needing a sensor to read direction of table travel or maybe somehow off the g code. Might even be able do some type of proportional mixing of two channels of air for vector control on angles between the 90degree quadrants (pwm of solenoid to have one give a lower flow?)

    Have you tried using neat cutting oil instead of a water based coolant with your fog busters? The higher lubricity of oil really helps with chip welding. You can also turn the quantity of oil way down. It's not so good on steel though - it doesn't cool as well and tends to smoke. I use a vegetable based oil that is designed for mist application.

    5:34 An idea to get rid of loose material mishaps like that is to drill minimum two auxiliary holes and have tapped holes in the fixture to bolt down the excess.
    To make things easier, this fixture should have technically been put on the grid plate there directly, and use those existing tapped holes to bolt the excess down. The fixture then just needs a clearance thru-hole in those locations. That appears pretty simple to me.

    Have you guys ever thought of investing in some indexable face mills? I run some Iscar face mills at work that are kick ass in aluminum, and you can run them about 4X as fast as the super fly and still get the same or better surface finish. Also, with a 2” face mill, you don’t run into the issue of witness marks between passes due to tram error in the machine.

    Got an idea that may not be a good one. Just something to chew on so to speak. Coolant. A ring with the holes that converge below it. Same idea as your pipes on the fog buster on the jointed hose. Big enough to be pushed up for tool changes or small enough for it to be pushed down or to the side for tool change. For sure not good for everything even if it work which I'm not sure it would. Valve on it along with valves on the ones you have presently so you can select which one you want to use? Well, probably not practical but maybe it could inspire something else. Keep up the great work.

    There are also lock-bearings available that don't have a one-way purpose. (they have the locking-mechanism in both ways) these are also used on HSK63/ISO30 tool fixtures.Did you ever considered slotting by using a 1 flute mill?

    I've found that if I'm properly torquing my ER-20 collet nuts, the one-way bearings for tightening and loosening can't hold them in place (I have a one-way bearing-based tightening thing I picked up somewhere, but maybe your bearings are better.

    Do you really need to spray accelerator around the edges after you've placed the work (since you sprayed accelerator on the bottom surface before mating them)?

  • @Steve_Just_Steve
    @Steve_Just_Steve 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why not just use PET tape with adhesive on both sides or acrylic double sided tape so you don't have to worry about the glue. I've always used double sided tape. There are many kinds that work and some work too well. The only downside to some of them is clamping and short setup time is required to obtain max hold.

    • @SadamSkywalker
      @SadamSkywalker 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Shorter drills are better for shallow holes. Because they are more rigid, they hold location and diameter tolerances better.
      There is however the argument - as Dfilgueras pointed out - that it may be more economical to only stock long drills (and have the commonly used ones always set up in their toolholder), as this saves a significant amount of time and inventory.

    the way you make first part on super glue is bad in my opinion. You destroy on piece of AL to make another piece. I will do it in 3 setups without destroying another piece of AL. And of course with my method you can push cutter harder to material without fear of the part will fly away ;)
