Thanks so much Nigel for the tips and progress view of your thuja... I recently got a thuja from my pal Andel and with your tips I'll tackle the tree... It's in desperate need of a repot followed by pruning and branch selection.. I will take my time working on the tree and record it, and I hope with my climate it thrives 🎉🎉🎉
Joan is one cool cat. You are probably to young to remember the tv show back in the day called: I Marry Joan in 1952 with Joan Davis and Jim Backus. That is what I remember when I see your kitty cat, Joan.
I always wonder what it means,. Or what the reference is when you say Joan is a sucky cat? I kind of think of how here in Minnesota when a cat gets rambunctious we say they are “Squirrelly.” But I’ve never heard “ sucky”. And i loved the flash back to the old “K W Bonsai” days. Makes me want to go back and watch some old videos. But I’ve still got a couple new ones I’ve got to watch.🤣
Hi Nigel, I inherited around 20 bonsai trees from my Dad when he passed away a few years ago. I have learned so much from your video's although I am still a novice, thankyou. I have a large twin trunk Gingko Biloba that I need to drastically reduce in size and was watching your video on the $20 buy you made from a box store in 2019. I also saw the follow up from 2020 but have been unable to find any further video's. Did the tree survive? If so are there any other video's in your playlist at all? Many thanks Russ (Canterbury, England).
Is there a bonsai practice, philosophy or thought about where it is best to start pruning a tree; i.e., bottom up or top down? You started at the top today, but it seems you more often started at the bottom. Sorry to say downtown Boston is 4°C with rain imminent, but it will go down to -2° and snow tomorrow, later in the day.
What an amazing change over 9 years!! Thanks for the throwback clips to show the progress. You've got a really cool looking tree now!
Perfect timing, I have a cedar I needed inspiration and guidance on, never tamed a Cedar into a Bonsai, yet.
That bark is looking good! You're progression videos are a valuable resource the bonsai community - Thank you 🙏

Nice work on this EWC. Looks good and ready for spring. Keep warm and I hope that the snow insulates your house also to keep the pipes from freezing.
Great tree Nigel.
If I may say: your hair looked better in 2015😂

Ha, you & the tree are aging well together Nigel ...
Yes, we are getting the polar vortex our way also. 25F/-4C at 8pm here in the windy city.

Has any of your Thuja trees grown clusters of cones, and if so what do you do about it?
