I wish the job wasn’t cursed so Remus could stay as the teached
Even then He couldn't, because the parents (Like the Malfoys) found out that He was a Werwolf and didn't want him to be around their Kids. Sadly
@@RichtofensLittleGirl that's because of the curse. No teacher could teach defense against the dark arts more than a year because of Voldemort's magic.
That same curse was the main reason why Dumbledore never placed Snape on that position btw. He wanted to have Snape with him
Well this is a curious one tbh because there are references in the first book of quirrel being a multi year teacher, because on holiday from hogwarts is when he met Voldemort. So did he take over from another DADA teacher or did having Voldemort in him reset the curse as he wasn’t technically the same man (edit: ignore this, just read he was muggle studied and took over the job)
"He showed them an iguana,i mean, that's more than umbridge did."

We only ever *read* about Slughorn being on the train. So I guess this guy didn't read the books. Which honestly doesn't surprise me...
He has read them both paper and Audio, I am so disappointed in him 🤦🏻♀️.
lupin was not the only teacher seen on the train, slughorn was. most likely there is a teacher's area. lupin probably wanted to sit in his old compartment where he would ride to school with the marauders
that wasnt the original marauders compartment it was the compartment where RON sat at RANDOM basically and harry joined him because he couldnt think of where else to sit.
it could have been the marauders compartment, there is no proof that it isn't. in fact, since lupin sat there, it is likely that it was
Also possibly to protect Harry from Sirius. Word would get around that that's Harry's compartment.
Didn't they just go there because the other compartments was full? Making it a coincident that lupin was with them when the death eaters attacked?
yes but that doesnt change the fact that lupin could have been sitting there because it was the marauder's old compartment.
I always loved how Crouch Jr. was such a mad genius that he had to attempt to play the role of Moody as perfect as he could. When he turns Draco into an animal is a good moment because it’s stated several times earlier that moody has a bad tendency to transfigure people into small animals. Also how much he just plays the role in all the other small details it’s crazy but really neat.
He also, probably, had no qualms about transfiguring Draco as he would've known that Lucius wasn't under the imperius curse in the first Wizarding war. A little revenge with "what are you going to do about it"
The only thing Barty Crouch Jr. Couldn't master was his little quark with his tongue. Which almost got him caught by Sr.
In my opinion, I feel like Quirell taught the students better than Lockhart.
Maybe I mean we never saw him teaching unless you play Hogwarts mystery and you in sixth year in the game
Lupin wasn’t the only professor to ride the train. Professor Slughorn went on the train in the half-blood prince
And Slughorn had too many collectors items to travel any other way lol would have been a few trunks full that needed the train.
Lupin is easier to answer - anywhere near a full moon he is too weak to do magic, (or fly on a broom) ministry doesn't like his kind so he wouldn't be able to be set up to the floo network... So train was the only way to travel.
lets be honest you want to kill umbridge more than voldermort himself
random girlyness the thing is like we understood why voldemort did what he did. while it was terrible we knew where he was coming from. but with umbridge she was just evil for the sake of being evil. at least voldemort thought he was doing the right thing for the greater good. umbridge just wanted to torture the kids. I hate umbridge
random girlyness If I had two Avada Kedavra's and Voldemort and Umbridge were in from of me, I would use both on Umbridge.
I like that I hate her. For me, she's a more interesting villain than Voldie. Just the fact that her actions give reactions to viewer/readers is what makes a good villain. Belatrix is next in line for clearly enjoying what she does. Voldermort is just... there. He's the type of villain that lets his minions do most of the work. And that makes him less intimidating in my eyes.
Umbridge is VERY hands on even when she had Team Draco helping her.

Erwin Pasamanero (For notes, I’m talking about the documented classes we know about. Nothing beyond what is shown to us in the books, nor from the other books.) I looked at the title, and immediately crossed off Lockhart and Umbridge. Crossed off Quirrel, although he might’ve shown potential if he wasn’t Voldemort’s puppet. So that leaves Lupin, Mad-Eye, and Snape. For future reference, I am talking about Barty Crouch Jr impersonating Mad-Eye, not the real one, due to the real one not actually being the teacher. I am also leaving him in, partly due to the whole ferret incident, but also due to the fact that he actually did teach things, such as showing them the unforgivable curses, and even teaching the class how to throw off the Imperious Curse. But I’m still placing him at third. Leaving Snape and Lupin. Lupin was a good teacher, and taught them how to combat some of the magical monsters in their world, and literally, *1*, curse, which was only useful against boggarts. He might’ve taught them other curses, but when your enemy tells you that you’re behind on curses with knowledge of what Lupin taught them, well that doesn’t bode well for you. So (I’m gonna start WW3 aren’t I by saying this,) I’m rating Lupin second. Now people are definitely going to hate me for this, but I’m placing Snape first. While he wasn’t a good person in general, he was a good teacher, and taught them somewhat in self defense. Yes, part of what he taught was taught to them by Harry in 5th year, but that doesn’t change the fact that he taught it nonetheless, and even that some of the class didn’t know any of it. Snape also taught them how to distinguish inferi from ghosts or other magical creatures. So yes, I’m rating Snape as the best Hogwarts teacher, not because of character, but because of what he taught
The teachers here were so amazing that the best one was a werewolf and the second best was a death eater-
and don’t forget the fact that the worst one killed a dementor just by being evil
1) Lupin - He was their best DADA teacher, taught them a lot, let them practice and was very helpful
2) Snape - Second only because of his approach. I truly think he taught Harry the most, by far, about defence against dark arts. He kept giving him lesson even during their duel after Dumbledores death. He also is the most knowledgeable about the subject. The thing is, he truly is too socially awkward, demanding and bitter to make a good teacher.
3) Crouch Jr. - too bad Barty didnt chose academic career instead of, well, world dominance. He was a natural.
4) Quirrell - He at least tries to teach, even while willingly possessed by the darkest wizard of all time... I dont want to even imagine his headaches
5) Lockhart - useless self-centered idiot.
6) Umbridge - Useless, doesnt even intend to teach, just there to torture everybody...
And don’t forget about the Carrows, who in book 7 were torturing students more than Umbridge. They truly are the 8th on a 7 character list
And don't forget... Lupin was also the only Professor who wasn't being a total prick...

Who else reading the title immediately thought that it would be Remus Lupin.
I thought it might be Barty Crouch Jr: for an evil dark wizard, he’s definitely my favorite D.A.D.A. professor, and he’s REALLY good at it.
@@LOVEMUFFIN_official Well other than using the imperius curse on the students, yeah, I agree.
Sure, it helps Harry specifically resist the imperius curse when it's cast on him by Voldemort, but Harry seemed to be a special case. Everybody else was just puppeteered by Barty jr. for the shi*s and giggles.
Before watching the video, I have one thing to say:
Clearly it was Harry. He taught the entire fifth year (excluding Slytherins) Defense Against the Dark Arts, and they actually LEARNED from him. And he was FIFTEEN.
I never even thought about Harry, but he might be the best. (As much as I love Remus). He was fair and helped those who needed help, which is what a teacher is suppose to do. But if we're going with the adults then it would be Remus.
Mephostopheles Harry didn't only teach fifth-years!! Luna an Ginny were fourth years for example, and Fred and George seventh, and I believe Cho, Marietta and Katie Bell were even sixth year students!!
Dagmar Eileen You're right. This only proves my point further: Harry is a great teacher.
Dolores shouldn't even be on the list. She wasn't a teacher, she was a torturer.
Ana N she taught Harry not to live with the way things are.. Life lessons with umbridge people!
She was hired as a teacher, so she was a teacher. She didn't _do_ any teaching, but that's like saying a soldier who hasn't had to fight for a while is no longer a soldier.

Harry Potter.
*Admit it.* WE ALL WANTED UMBRIDGE DEAD MORE THAN Voldemort.
Edit: 1k likes?!?!? Thx so much!
I think even though Voldemort committed more atrocities, there are two reasons people hate Umbridge more:
1) She is relatable. Almost everyone has had a bitch of a teacher or boss or neighbor etc. We know how it feels to be on the receiving end of that abuse. She represents every authority figure who was an asshole to us for no apparent reason. In that way you could say she is similar to Severus Snape. However unlike Snape, she had another trait that made her unbearable.
2) She played innocent. She was obviously a sociopathic monster, but she had an act that everything was gumdrops and rainbows and that she was just doing her duty. The most aggravating part was that she knew that everyone knew how much of a bitch she was, but she still pretended. It was condescending and annoying.
Snape was angry about Lily's death, Umbridge had no reasons. And Snape never physically tortured anyone.
3.14 Dragon Harry's oclumamency (spelling) training was arguably torture.

I disagree with 5 Quirell was a decent teacher, he just had(or rather pretended to have) a severe stutter, while Lockhart indirectly taught 1 spell
Anthony Bouffiou well all quirell did was teach Harry that if he touched voldermort would die, which was almost useless
C3PO Robotic no he taught the class a number of things actually including the knockback jinx and how to identify the curse of the bogies. It’s also implied that he taught the class petrificus totalus. Lockhart taught nothing. So Quirrell was definitely a better teacher than Lockhart.
Idk, having the Dark Lord sharing your body is a big no-no for the position.
Being a literal Death Eater is also a big no-no, but he was in second place.
The full moon was the night before September 1st in 1993, so maybe that has something to do with why Lupin was on the train? He's my all time favorite character, though, he's great.
Britt in Wonderland wasn't the ministry tracking apparation? could lupin have been trying to keep a low profile? while it wasn't necessary for him to keep a low profile until year 5, maybe he was just paranoid. also, that's a great theory as well. maybe he was too weak to apparate to hogsmeade.
Shane Levesque II oh yeah that's very true! It probably was that. Could be a combination of weakness and avoiding being noticed by the ministry.
I never really thought about why lupin was on the train much, I had always assumed the teachers just apparate to hogsmeade or flooed in.
That was also the year dementors were at Hogwarts they likely planted the teacher on the train in case since the patronous charm which protects against them was advanced magic. They even said it was when Lupin was teaching it to Harry.

I feel like the case against Quirill given isn't very compelling. If we're going to excuse Barty Crouch Jr. for being a double agent then Quirill should be the same. Nothing from the books indicate he was incompetent or not teaching properly so I'd say he's better than Lockhart.
Agreed. Actually, in OotP Umbridge mentiones that only Quirrell's classes were age-appropriate and Ministry-approved. @HQ Night I understand where you're coming from.
I think Lily loved Snape in her own way.
He lashed out at her due to her horrid sister, Petunia. He also dealt with a lot of bullying from those who welcomed Lily but didnt deserve her kindness in his eyes.
You are right though...Snape was a Slytherin through and through as he was obviously taught early about The Pureblood Doctrine and thus corrupted by it. Remember- Sirius Black was raised to believe the same and only changed due to his joining Hogwarts and Gryffindor House, seeing how different but worthy his friends were (except Pettigrew, the rat) and changed his way of thinking.

It comes down to different upbringing.
But Sirius was estranged from all family members. He hated his family from early on as they all were cold and did not treat him with love, but demands, criticism and expectations.
Snape, however was close to his mother, who was a pureblood witch, while hated his abusive father who happened to be a muggle. Its this situation that shaped Snapes views.

If you ask me, Snape was incompetent as a teacher. I mean, think about it, his book he wrote as a baby boy is even today still better than what is used - used even by himself in class!!
He's literally using it in his very own class Books that he knows are highly inferior to the school books! He cares so freaking little about basically everything, that he never bothered to tell anyone, even during talking about the very subject!
That's like a doctor knowing how to cure cancer, and he talks twice a week with another doctor about cancer, but he never botheres to mention that he knows how to cure it! Not just at all but not even during talking about the subject!
Maybe he's just so much better in Potions than anyone else because he strongly monopolizes everything? Who knows, maybe he's even like Lockhart using magic to make others dumper!
Umbridge isn't "as bad as voldemort" she's way worse, like, she's too obsessed with cats, like seriously. And at least Voldemort smiles at some point, I don't even think Umbridge knows how
In defense of Voldemort (yea, I'm going there), Harry had to put up with Umbridge for a whole school year while we only saw good 'ol Voldy at the end of every year....except for Harry's third year. So we saw a whole lot more of Umbridge's evilness than the dark lord's.
Yeah, Voldy was kind of fair with Harry, giving him a chance to learn stuff before trying to kill him. Although, it is the worst thing when your enemy is as dumb as cabbage, or so the saying goes, so there is that.

Remus John Lupin OBVIOUSLY!!
He was the best out of all of them!
I think Crouch edges him out as a teacher. Preparing Harry to fight the Unforgivables was a HUGE step forward for him. Crouch made a massive difference in Harry's ability to triumph in the 7th book. So did Lupin, but the patronus only had niche applications while nearly every Death Eater Harry ever encountered was capable of the Unforgivables.
My order is :
1. Lupin,
2. Snape,
3. Barty Crouch Jr (disguised as Mad-Eye Moody),
4. Quirell,
5. Lockhart,
6. Umbridge
But what did Quirell even teach Harry that Harry uses later? At least Umbridge taught him how to use defensive magic in an oppressive dictatorship situation, however unintentional that was.
This is slightly unrelated, but if you notice that Snape always writes potion instructions on the board himself instead of using the book, and Hermione always succeeds following his instructions. However, once Slughorn takes over, he has the students follow the book, which leads to Hermione struggling, while Harry succeeds using Snape’s instructions in his book. Just a cool little detail that Snape may have been a bully teacher, but he was a good potions teacher.
7:52 he answers his own question 3 years later

And in book 5 when Sirius is talking to them about Umbridge it says, ‘She drafted a bit of anti-werewolf legislation two years ago that makes it almost impossible for him to get a job.’ (Two years ago being around POA time) so, since he can’t Apparate to Hogwarts and has very little money (because he can’t keep/ get a job for very long) he takes the train instead?
@@dragonz6491 at least we know we was in a really bad state and slept through most of the ride.
Well Lupin is not the only teacher that ride the train to Hogwarts. In the Half Blood Prince professor Slughorn is also on the train.
Karin Markendahl But he doesn't sit in a students carriage. He has a special place.
I honestly am very upset that Barty Crouch Jr as Moody couldn't stay as the teacher (under some... Unbreakable Vow or whatever), because he was so GOOD as a teacher. He treated the students with respect for their experiences instead of trying to constantly coddle them like the other adults, and he also took a more proactive stance against idiotic bullying and disrespectful students (even if we would consider a teacher turning a student temporarily into a ferret as abuse, the wizarding world is much different and we must remember that the Forbidden Forest is considered appropriate for detention). I would have loved to see exactly how much Barty-Moody would have taught the kids over the years, since he was the only one to really expose them to the magic that Death Eaters and Voldemort would actually use. I was so upset when he was revealed to be the villain.
we all knew Lupin would be number one and "Mad Eye" number two XD
it is interesting where you put lockheart though, honestly i usually put him under Quirrell, then again theyre kinda at the same level for me, and if i remember correctly, the book doesnt talk much about year 1 DADA, so Quirrell might have been doing a decent job
You know why Voldemort is better than Umbridge?
Because he's actually a likeable villain.
That likeable villain who will torture you so much that you wouldn't recognise yourself and straight up murder you!
Unlike Umbridge doesn't have guts to actually harm someone physically.
Which is weird, because Voldemort is literally wizard Hitler 2.0.
Philipizmo the thing with Umbridge is that she is banal evil- most of us have met someone like her- who gets off on control, and who is nasty and bigoted. Don’t forget- she was more than happy to head the Muggle Registration office- without being imperiused.
Voldemort, being basically a wizard Hitler is that evil that is far off- we’ve heard of it, but we don’t know it personally- not like we do with Umbridge.
@@katherinemorelle7115 Yes. She is has pure evilness in her soul. Even in the film portrayal was so good that I even hated her even more.
Lupin isn't the only one on the train (at least in the book) Slughorn held a feast on the train with Ginny, Harry, Blaise, etc.
I always wondered about the curse that no DAtDA teacher lasts more than one year because of Quirrel... I've just started listening to book 1 again and Hagrid speaks of Quirrel, outside the Leaky Cauldron, as if he has already been a teacher - "scared of his students" "scared of his own subject" - also implying that it's DAtDA that he already teaches.... any thoughts?
Snapes was incredible at potions and the defence against dark art as well. He was a worthy headmaster ❤️❤️❣️
6: Umbridge
5: Lockhart
4: Quirlle
3: Snape
2: Moody
1: Lupin!
I agree as well. This is almost identical to the rankings in the list, except places 4 & 5 are swapped, and it makes more sense. Let's face it, Quirrell may have been a bad professor, but at least he knew what he was talking about, something that can't be said about Lockheart.
*Umbridge is placed last because, as said in the video, she actually went out of her way to make sure the students DON'T learn what she's supposed to teach them... Plus she tortured Harry almost as badly as the Dursleys did.
Voldemort: "How did you escape my curse?"
Harry: "Your dude," *chuckles*
I DIED XD
Lupin wasn't the only teacher on the train....I mean come on guys how many times have you reread the books??????
Slllluuuugggghhhooorrrrnnn
Snape is the best defense against the dark arts wizard of this list, idk about teacher.
Snape knew more curses when he arrived at school than half of the kids in seventh years. He understood them and made counter curses for them.He created his own dark magic and also made counter spells for those. And his knowledge as an adult, was so great that even Albus Dumbledore came to him for help on the subject multiple times. He also created a resistance potion to a curse invented and cast by Voldemort himself, keeping it at bay for an extraordinarily long time, given that it was such an extremely powerful curse. He brewed Mandrake Restorative Draught, which cured all victims of the Badilisk petrification which was described by dumbledore as “Dark Magic of the most advanced kind”. So powerful occlumency was so strong he kept Voldemort believing his loyalty for 17 years, Voldemort was considered the most powerful legilimence. His knowledge in healing was so great that Dumbledore once quoted to Harry that Snape was more experienced in healing against Dark magic than poppy pomfrey was. He also saved Katie bell form a cursed neck less.
For his teaching I would say: “His encyclopaedic understanding of the dark arts made so that Snape taught the class at N.E.W.T level to such an effect that even Harry Potter could not help but be enchanted by his knowledge.”
That’s something….
Ps. I just have to say the logic of “these spells were the most useful so the teachers who taught them are the best teachers is flawed to say the least. Just because it were the most useful for 1 person doesn’t mean it was useful for any of the other students.
Slughorn also came to Hogwarts in the Hogwarts Express, not just Lupin.
For me it is
1. Lupin (Easy)
2.Snape (Always)
3. Barth Crouch Jr. (They ARE Illegal!)
4. Quirell (I mean Iguanas and dark arts! do they mix?)
5. Lockhart (at least the OTHER teachers except Umbridge teach them)
6. Umbridge (do I have to explain?)
Snape and Crouch should be switched Snape is a good person but not a good teacher and Crouch at least teaches them a lot
Y'know, I've always thought Harry should've become Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher after Voldemort's death. Not immediately, of course, but like a few years after. We already see that he's really good at teaching Defense in his fifth year, and Hogwarts always felt like his home. Plus, I think it would have been really fun to see him do the boggart lesson in the same manner as Lupin and Dumbledore.
