This is so neat! I was there in 1956 with my mom, dad, little brother and big brother. I was 13 years old. We traveled from Ohio, our home, to Colorado to visit my big brother who was in the Air Force. It was June, we stood by the car, a 1956 Plymouth and had snow that was higher than the car. I don't think I went up to the very summit as you folks were but we did go to the last overlook. I believe my dad and big brother did make the climb. You don't know how the memories just flooded back. Thank you so much for posting this. I really hope you do read this.
Absolutely breathtaking no pun intended of course. Adam you and Abby did great. What a view. And it was a little cloudy. I can only imagine what it would looks like on a clear day...Just amazing...thanks for sharing...Vic
Adam, I'm a boy scout alumni (Eagle) that hiked all through the Sangre De Christo mountains at Philmont scout ranch back in the 70's, What you're experiencing is, there's no damn oxygen up there !!! Thanks for a great watch, and the memories, Cliff
BEAUTIFUL. Was surprised to see it paved all the way to the top. Pikes Peak, after the tree line it's a gravel road so it doesnt freeze over with ice. So glad you both had a wonderful time. I have a t-shirt that says cabbage key, elevation 18'. Wore that to Pikes Peak. Was cold, but had my jacket open. Pikes Peak is 14,110' and at the top they have a giftshop at the summit. Makes the best donuts I've ever had. Plain is my favorite. So good had to get a dozen. Driven up, n also taken the cog railway to the top. Crisp, clean air at the top, a little thin, but absolutely beautiful. I miss not going there now that my son is no longer in the Air Force. He was at Peterson Air Force Base. When my wife retires we will be going out west. It is so different than South West Fa. 80' in town 40' in the Mt. Englewood to be exact. Thanks so much for taking us along.
Yep, the paving was finished in 2011. Maintenance issues were the reason. The state of Colorado determined in 2007 they would pave the top half of the accent. It took them four summers to complete it.
I went up there on fathers day 2002. The stretch of road at 4:10 in the vid had about a 15ft wall of plowed snow just off the pavement on the right. It kept the drive nice and cool. Down in Denver it was in the 80s and up on top of Mt Evans, we were having light snow flurries. It freaked this southerner out in June!!
Great video! As are all of your videos. I've lived here in CO for many years and have been up there 3 times. I was dizzy and short of breath all 3 times. I got dizzy just watching your video from 15:30 - 18:20. It's cool you went all they way to the very top. Great adventure for the both of you.
I've been up there several times...beautiful pure white mountain goats up there! So many places in Colorado to visit..you could spend the next 10 years in Colorado on vacations and still not see everything!
So cool to see all this through your eyes :) I grew up in Golden and now live just a few miles away. Heck, you coulda seen my old backyard from where you were on Lookout Mountain! We just helped my father-in-law move into a place just outside Idaho Springs too. Thanks for sharing! These videos make me appreciate all the little things I guess I've come to take for granted.
WOW! What a fantastic view from up top!! But I almost flipped my chair backwards leaning back away from the edge! Not so good with heights... Love my hiking though. Great video as always, keep 'em coming :-)
My neighborhood grew up fishing, hunting, and climbing up there. Great to see again and only way to 14000 feet is to drive most of the way. Love Abbie’s reaction to everything.
Nice video. At Pikes Peak, the thin air didn't bother me until I went inside the gift shop. Then I felt dizzy as heck. That was in the early 80's. My fear of heights would have forbade me to make that little last trek up those rocks today though.
Thanks for the ride up . It's been so long since I been in the mountains, I forgot how much I missed them. And I hiked a 14er -- I was 14 at the time. I don't recommend it for anyone over 22 !
Well done Adam you are proving to yourself by loosing some weight and diet is really paying off for you and abbey you should be very proud of your achievement and looking forward to the future together
You can really notice the difference in the amount of air, especially from Summit Lake to the top. I actually notice it coming back down more...it almost seems like you can feel the air getting thicker by the foot in elevation loss. If you ever make it back up there, there is a trail that goes around the right side of Summit Lake that offers some amazing views of terraced lakes (3 - 5 lakes in tiers down the valley) at the end and since its significantly lower elevation then the top of the mountain its not quite as brutal on the lungs (its also flat and graded). Great to see you two come out to my home state. Love the videos and its neat to see someone experience stuff for the first time that I've come to take for granted.
Abby said...If you die I'm going to be very upset! I imagine so Abby...lol. I really enjoyed the visual that you all gave going up to Mt. Evans and at top of the mountain.
The building was a dance hall, curio shop, museum, bar, etc. it burned but the fire trucks couldn't get close enough to save anything. All the water comes from melting glaciers. The rocky areas came from the debris carried by the glaciers. They didn't last much past this area, they started melting. The "snow" on the mountainsides is actually glaciers. In many of the lakes, you'll see small icebergs broken off (calves) from the glaciers.
Great video! It is hard to go from sea level to altitude in a short period of time. Try to schedule time to get acclimated Many more places to explore, so go while you can.
Back when I first went to Colorado cars just had carburators and no computers on board to adjust fuel mixture vehicles would have black smoke pouring out the exhaust and some would not make it they would be running so rich, it is a different world.
I was there year before last. Altitude sickness affects lots of people. 2 things you can do - take your time going up in elevation (days) to get used to it - and drink lots of water. The tall mountain to the south about 75 miles away is Pikes Peak
Michael R....Are you talking about the top of the mountain?? Who do you think was up there dumping rocks at 14,300' ??!! Hide something?? Those rock formations are from billions of years ago when the mountains were formed. I have been up there (plus a few other peaks in my state) many times and it is majestic.
@@paulcopeland9035 Billions of years ago??? What else do you simply Believe? What rock "formations" are you referring to? I was referring to all the miscellaneous rocks and boulders piled all over the top of the mountain. The nonsense you've replied with is absolutely ridiculous with no supporting evidence whatsoever. Think about what can actually be observed and empty your mind of all the billions of years ago garbage we were all programmed to believe.

Nice spot! I was on Donner pass a few weeks ago. That's around 9000 something feet. If I remember? Anyways your breathing takes forever to catch up. It's a weird feeling. But the views are worth it.
We have only a few weeks to travel up that mountain. It is the highest auto road in the US. If you care to see this part of my beautiful state, you have to go when it is open. Naturally, there are going to be a few people in a small area but it is worth it !! Btw, "too".
Thanks. Beautiful country. You two are very kind to takes us along.

I'm sure glad you posted this, so that i'll never have to drive up that crazy road myself!
Beautiful camera work and beautiful scenery. Thanks.
That was awesome! Thanks for taking us along on your cool adventures.
This is the BEST video I have seen of the drive up!! Could tell you two thoroughly enjoyed it!!
Spectacular! It lakes my breath away...

Hey Abom79 and Abbey! I think that trail you were on would be great for bicycle riding! Thanks for the nice video! Ride ride ride!

WOW when you looked down on the marker, I looked away! I'm afraid of heights. Glad yall had fun!!
I do believe she's correct that those are Marmots. What a gorgeous drive and scenery, and it's obvious you're having fun. Nice!
Such a cool ride. Blessed to live in Colorado and experience these jewels ❤️

I love theHigh Country, the air is so nice. Great Adventure,
The calm cold air is so nice up there without all the sounds of the city!
This video was absolutely incredible. The beauty of this place just cannot be put into words. I'm glad you and your wife got to experience this.
Thanks for posting! Mt Evans is my favorite spot! You did a great job capturing!

Great driving Abbey. You've kept it between the lines!

FYI there’s a running race and a bike race up Mt Evans every year. Us Coloradoans are a crazy bunch 😬👏👍❤️😁

I admirer your climbing that footpath since I've gotten older I don't like hight. You can hear you breathe laboring Adam. Good for you guys!!

Wow I bet that looked great!
You guys know how live.
Well done Adam you are proving to yourself by loosing some weight and diet is really paying off for you and abbey you should be very proud of your achievement and looking forward to the future together
They drove up a 14er.... what kind of achievement is that! 😂
That summit climb was awesome. Now I don't have to climb it. Great footage too. It looks very dangerous to me as well.

I see there were some burn scars on the road, obviously marking the spots where Audi's caught fire. Famous for doing that on long steep climbs.
Back when I first went to Colorado cars just had carburators and no computers on board to adjust fuel mixture vehicles would have black smoke pouring out the exhaust and some would not make it they would be running so rich, it is a different world.
We would come up a lot in the summertime to get away from the heat.

Did the brakes get hot on the way down?
I was hoping you guys would check out the observatory in the background, oh well.
The observatory houses a 28" f/21 telescope
Had a loudmouth kid instead.
First stop, Mount Evans. Next stop, Everest! :-)
The rocks up there seemed to be dumped there to hide something or they're the scattered remains of what may have been once built there.
Maybe to help with road weathering?

That was a marmot. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marmot
fun!
Even cooler trip on a motorcycle.
How was your cell signal from up on top?
That's twice the height of Australia's highest Mountain, Mt Kosciuszko at 7,310 feet.
You should try TommyKnocker brewery in Idaho Springs! They serve the best IPA, I must say.
I’m more of a Pilsner guy 🍺
Abom Adventures here we go!
At 4:40 the road becomes "WHITE kNUCKLE DRIVING" Hang on you still have to drive back down!
go west young man go west
Nice to see the wifey, some are really shy of YT cameras.
Thx for cutting out the goat pooping at 20:46 lol
Man I'd hate to get a flat on that road no where to pull over
Y’all DROVE up a 14er?! What a disgrace! Hiking a 14er is one of the most satisfying things!
A disgrace? You should rethink your comments on folks who enjoy getting out and seeing new places. Not everyone is a hardcore hiker.
Not much air up there.
have to have hiking boots to keep from twisting your foot
Now you have to start from the bottom and hike all the way up 😂
They’re too unhealthy for that 😂
Todays easy access brought to you by the bulldozer and dynamite. :-)
Love seeing you guys dressed like it's winter.....I'd be the guy in shorts and a tee shirt. You need more trips north to thicken the blood..
Laugh all you want, 43° is cold! I have nothing to prove. I’d rather be warm and comfortable while I’m enjoying my time.
Whistle pig or marmot.
Those trails don't look handicaped accessible
Unfortunately some of the hiking trails are not but the main overlook is.
to many bodies
