I knew there had to be a way to fix this without removing the door panel! I've watched a zillion videos of this repair from inside and it's just a nightmare. Thanks for this easy fix.
What a great tip Leon and that will help a lot of folks out there. I'm sure like you said that a lot of folks will start replacing parts. Have a good one!
Love the name man, cracked me up.. Thanks heaps mate, this problem has been giving me the shits for months, clear, easy solution... you're a bloody legend. Stay safe brother.
Good quick fix , how you know all this stuff does amaze me you are a smart bloke you know what you are doing. I honestly think that those vw group German cars aren't as well made as people often think. They feel "chunky" to drive and quality but they seem to have things break more than other cars especially looking at the used market they don't age seem to age well .
Great video Leon, unfortunately there are a lot of problems with these locks As there is a microswitch and the bad soldering, pfffff I've bin there, as what you always say, what a nightmare... Lol
So, Mr. Mechanic, the hardest part for you is the lighting! A camera and lighting man think, wow, that bloke is having trouble with the easiest part (lighting) and making the hardest part look easy! Makes you cuss engineering for calling for a steel cable that stretches too easily over time. Does this happen on passenger side more often? You have given us a wonderful tip, thanks from Kentucky.
It's very difficult to record especially in my shed with very bad natural lighting and a very big front door that lets a lot of light especially where the car is facing it washes out the background and the focus and especially in a open garage it's very difficult to film like do absolutely everything yourself so yes sometimes I do struggle
Hey sir. I have VW Touran 2006 door handle is pretty much loose it opens and shuts down but the handle keeps sticking out and the T20 screw does not want to be tighten up any solution pls ?! It drives me crazy!!!
Thanks for the vid 3:33 screw driver is prising adjuster and you say "it can slide back" , does that mean the cable can become detached and then a nightmare ensues ? Lol, that'll be me if so.Thanks.
2007 Passat 2.0T. A similar problem is when the door won't unlock, manually or with the remote, when it gets somewhat below freezing, except from the inside. I'm wondering if this solution will apply to that problem, or if I will have to get into the nitty-gritty. I'm hoping that it was just moisture which is now gone. I will find out this winter.
Hi mate unfortunately it's impossible for me to say as it can be a number of problems but from the sounds of things from what you are telling me it sounds you have a lock issue rather than the issue we had on this car
Good video Leo, I only found it after removing the door trim. I have loosened the T 20, but the lock will not come out of the door. I have put plenty of wd40 on it, but it is solid. Any ideas please.
Did this to my SEAT Toledo last year. I noticed afterwards load of VAG group cars with the lock not fitted back properly. I kept thinking I should leave my number if they wanted it sorted.
Any tips on how to do this on a 08 Passat? I got the lock out using the t20 but the locking mechanism looks different i.e no black cap/ clip or metal cable visible. Cheers.
Hi mate as far as my memory goes that mechanism on the Passat is completely and utterly different it works off a big subframe with springs on it what you might need to do is slightly adjust the lock in the door or you can even adjust the lock latch on the pillar of the car
What do you think of the diesel engines in these Golf's? They're in Seat Ibiza's etc of the same age. Some have gone to over 200,000 miles, others are dead at 120,000 miles. Probably down to maintenance tbh. Also, do you do undersealing to cars?
8ile that is a hard one to answer it all depends on how it's driven how it's looked after and where the car is as regards undersealing you have to be careful as if you leave it too long and it cracks water can get in and it can cause more damage than good in some cases
Hi mate if I'm understanding what you are saying how to open the door when you can't use the handle unfortunately you have to to take off the door card in most cases you have to damage it to get to the lock mechanism to release it
Hi mate there is a metal cable with a hook on it which goes to the inside of the door handle and then goes to the lock you could have a problem with the inside door handle or most likely the cable has broken between the two
@@bodgitandleggitgarage it's just been in for a service and they managed to fix it for me (no charge) but told me to be gentle with it. Said would be £100 to fix next time. Could it maybe just be lube? Thinking that if they managed to fix it, then it couldn't be broken???
As long as you can open the handle you can get a small pic in and move that little wire up up it's awkward but you can do it that might work for you all the best mate
These locks are really badly designed. Microswitches, soldering etc. Nightmare. I was repairing them all in Golf IV estate. Vag group is big no, no for me...
Lifesaver. Watched so many videos trying to find this solution, thank you mate. Nice & simple and works. Took 5 minutes
just followed it, worked a treat on my 2001 bug...subbed...
Glad it helps mate

Very good narrative and video, I will tackle my drivers door and hopefully be fixed! Thanks for sharing it!!
thanks mate
Brilliant explanation. Thank you.
Does the garage door close? That might help block out the back lighting.
Thanks again for the info.
Love the no parts fixes! Don't tug it, you'll go blind!!
One Auto, 😁😂🤣😂😁😁🤣
Wouldn’t you care to elaborate on that ? “ Don't tug it, you'll go blind!! “

I fixed my door on seat toledo 2001.

Great tip Leon, what about getting the door open in the first place if it won't open at all.
have fun with that 1 mate
Great vid Leon.
Cheers
Jamie
Vdubs 60 thanks mate
I’ve got Vw caddy 10 plate, side door not opening from inside or out side 😫
Hey Leon I'm having the same problem with my golf mk3 I have to tug on it quite a bit for it to open how can I go about fixing this please help

Thomas EXOVCDS no aĺl good forgot to message you thank you been busy and slipped my mind many thanks again mate

Hi mate you maybe haven't got the little bolt all the way out once you do the lock will just fall out
Very good commentary
thanks mate
Did this to my SEAT Toledo last year. I noticed afterwards load of VAG group cars with the lock not fitted back properly. I kept thinking I should leave my number if they wanted it sorted.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll look into it, cheers.
I thought tugging it is bad for your eyes not speech haha. Good video
this isn't always why it does this, it can the mechanical arm for the out handle doesn't reset itself all the way especially after unlocking the car
Paul Wilkinson totally!
Sometimes it’s to tight and won’t let the lock go through it’s full motion
Oh, I have a Golf Mk5. Door won't open. But seen people stripping and replacing the whole door lock mechanism
all depends on the problem if the door lock is broken obviously replace it this wasn't broken
Nice little tip .
125 SM thanks mate
It is great man...great video and explanation...complete :-)
thanks mate
Thanks mate
Happy to help
Amazing! It's tricky.
proffes simo thanks mate
Thank you for the tip!
Thomas EXOVCDS thanks mate I'm sure you've come across this problem before
Once or twice! =)
Thomas EXOVCDS or 100 lol

Hi mate if I'm understanding what you are saying how to open the door when you can't use the handle unfortunately you have to to take off the door card in most cases you have to damage it to get to the lock mechanism to release it
What i wanna know is to remove and replace the windscreen washer hoses from front to the back
I have the opposite problem, opens from outside but not inside. Any ideas? Thanks.
Hi mate there is a metal cable with a hook on it which goes to the inside of the door handle and then goes to the lock you could have a problem with the inside door handle or most likely the cable has broken between the two

when do you ever use the doors? I thought you were a Dukes of Hazard dive through the window kind of fella
Badgertronix you should do a video on that especially after about six pints I'm sure that would go viral lol
Mine is completely shut and i can't seem to be to get in there to repair it.
Just make sure you've got the screw out enough mate
Great info but my door will not open to get to the bit you are explaining. It’s driving me nuts😡.
As long as you can open the handle you can get a small pic in and move that little wire up up it's awkward but you can do it that might work for you all the best mate
Kind of blowk who gets angary he almost lost it on him self when he couldn't speak (say a word) 😂
?
bodgit and leggit garage lol only kidding pal, good mechanic
These locks are really badly designed. Microswitches, soldering etc. Nightmare. I was repairing them all in Golf IV estate. Vag group is big no, no for me...
PJ Gajewski so what you're saying is German engineering at its finest lol
Well, maybe it`s not that bad. It`s just highly overrated. Thanks for videos!
Don't tug it too much, you'll go blind mate.
hahahahah
