Pain became the norm and peace causes anxiety. Personally, for me it's my experience with dissociation and repression of painful memories. Knowing sth that used to be on my mind suddenly had disappeared was really frightening and honestly the panic from it was painful. There's also a bit of a turmoil too when forgetting what hurt you, like u invalidated urself, and that hurt u again

There's not really a general consensus about the meaning but some interesting ones I've read are: The song was about depression and self harm, either with the second voice being in the person's head or being a friend who's fed up with them The second voice is the person's gender dysphoria, since in the original had a male and female, saying how much it hurts to be in the wrong body I've also seen an interpretation where it's about the first person having raped the second and then coming to apologise, the second person not having any of it and is basically telling them to ignore it, but the first person can't believe they've done it and it keeps eating at them
