*I think of my father, who also devoted his life to work, only to be forgotten when he got old. Steven William made me realize that sometimes perseverance and self-respect are the only ways to keep yourself. It's never too late to correct mistakes, to recognize the value of dedicated people. If this story touches you, Before it's too late, THINK if there is anyone in our lives that we need to thank, need to apologize to?*
After I came out of the Forces, I worked for 35 years in the same job, ending up as a Supervisor. When I came to retire, I left two days early, not telling anyone. I avoided all the false goodbyes and sorry to see you go. Why do people think that loyalty should be rewarded you have had a job that paid your way when millions can't find work, isn't that enough. You are just a speck of sand in a Desert, get on with it.
I worked for GTE now called Verizon for 30 years, I received a clock that didn’t cost $50, that broke after about one year. I was an engineer with responsibility’s of many thousands of dollars in construction projects. But I did get $1,050.00 a month for 28 years, how’s that !
Many holes in this story…… be very careful what is gleaned for any purposes outside the context of “A STORY”… things like this require being handled with a high quality of experience and careful knowledge of how many moving parts evolve, so to speak.
@@cherylfleming6586 You are right. Been there, done that. I got no pension from the 3 companies I worked for in the '70's 80's. No computers back then though.
I am a union leader. I wouldn't have restored anything. This story is a perfect example of why workers need strong unions. Older managers retire, then younger inexperienced managers fill their positions and show no respect to the older workers who make the company what it is.
I came to work one morning and my boss was called into the 2nd levels office. He came back sat down behind his desk and started crying he was being let go. He had 32 yrs service so got a pension and sererence pay.
Good story and so true you don't mess with the quiet experts 😂
In the UK we call this a shaggy dog story. Goes on forever. It could have been crisp and meaningful in 10 minutes tops.
Should have started this tale with “Once upon a time”

tldr: bosses don't give pensions.

In Australia it's called a "telling a yarn", a story with some truths but based on fiction.

I remember GTE, my phone company in the mid 80’s
Sounds like he works for someone in our Government.
What a load of codswallop!
Seems made up most companies would give advance notice and off er some severance pay.
When you people ever going to get a proofreader you never seem to get deleted incorrect with the right story that's pathetic in literature
Most likely not a true story, nevertheless, entertaining.

Is it horse
Is it dog

Made up story. Who would turn down 1M
Who accepts a job with a 50 dollar pension?
Anyone who needs a job. And that was what the benefits were….Back in the 70 and 80s that was a good benefit…….

Unions are useless!

Yeah well the unions have their own problems, squashing merit pay raises and supporting ineffective employees through unwarranted promotions.
