Dylan Baker is so great as Mr. Rance. This first scene with him, at :27? Every one of us has known one of these smug, stuck-up pricks at one time or another, and Baker plays it to perfection.
For those saying "duh, he should've finished him off" don't seem to get that the audience is afforded the perceptive off Law's character dropping the shotgun, falling to the floor, and clutching his face with both hands.... Hank's character, laying on the floor has no view of this. All he knows for sure is that he hit him with either the bullet or debris from the lamp. He has no idea whether he's going to pop up shooting again or is waiting behind the sofa for Hank's to expose himself. All he knows for certain is he bought himself a brief moment to disengage, find what he came there for, then retreat. Overall, a very sound tactical decision.
@@tien90802 Could be multiple explanations for that. But Sullivan wasn't there to kill, but to get the files and get out. And Law's character demonstrated that he was still very dangerous.
Well the actual reason Sullivan didn't finish him off is because he was out of ammo. You can see his slide locked back after he fired the shot that wounded McGuire. Odd though because he only fired four shots and his pistol held a maximum of 8 rounds. You'd think he'd be fully loaded before this started.
I've got one of those coins that Jude Law rolls across his knuckles, a Walking Liberty half dollar. I really think it's the most beautiful coin the United States has ever produced.
I love this scene with the urgency of Michael Sullivan Jr. trying to alert his father with the horn, as the telegraph is interfering. The surprised reactions of both Mr. Mcguire's and Michael Sullivan's as Jude enters is priceless. SUPERB directing, and OUTSTANDING supporting roles here.
About 55-6o years ago, my father went to Chicago, from Canada, to pick up an inheritance from his ½ brother. He bought, all 5 of us kids, books like that Lone Ranger one. Mine was Mickey Mouse! Books, short and fat and all illustrated
I love how there's no reaction to this massive shootout in a major hotel. You don't see panicked crowds runnout of the hotel, and of course somehow the badly wounded McGuire manages to escape before the police show up.
Odd that Sullivan shoots his gun empty with just four shots. It holds 7 rounds in a magazine, and you'd think he go into this with his mag fully loaded. Also did he really not bring any spare mags or a backup gun with him? If he had, he could have eliminated McGuire right then and there.
My take on Sullivan not finishing off Jude Law was Michael. Throughout the movvie, Michael is his priority. If you notice, Michael keeps honking and honking. Sullivan doesn't really seem to respond to the honking in the few moments he has to hear it, maybe because he said honk twice. Then Jude Law kicks the door in and a gunfight ensues, in which we don't hear the horn anymore. My take is that perhaps Sullivan perceived Michael was in in trouble and that he needed to get back asap.
In this case I would say fleeing before the police arrive. Plus there was also the fact he was not sure how wounded he was. If he went up to finish him off and he still had his hands on the gun Mike Sullivan would have died there. Also he had his son to worry about. So staying there was too risky and would not have helped solve his problems.
Jamesklanto you sir are a treasure I watched this in the feds, my guy from Florida put me on, b4 I went to Georgia who knew America had white gangsters🤔😂😂
@BrotherHugo500 Nope. This movie is set in 1931; the P38 wasn't introduced until 1938 (which is what the "38" designates). The pistol Jude Law has is a Savage model 1907. It took a .32 cartridge.
If the academy not only allowed women but also men to have two spots in the supporting category,I´m sure mr. Law would´ve have been up for an Oscar along with Newman. It´s a really intense, creepy, sinister, vile performance....and pretty boy pulled it off. Law was awesome back in the day,now for some reason,he´s...meh.
You wrote this in 2015-2016. He was in Spy,The Grand Budapest Hotel and Black Sea around those years, phenomenal in all of them. And there is his greatest performance as Pius XIII in The Young Pope. He was just spectacular in that.
He's always been skinny-ish, watch him in other films carefully. Probably he doesn't like to waste his time in gyms to built up muscles he doesn't need to look like everybody else! ;)
Respond to this video... "Michael look out the tractor, look out the tractor coming now. Watch out!" then the car barely doesn't hit the tractor and Michael: "Oh, we made it!" " "yeah, yeah, we "made" it"...hahahaha
4:55 - and that's why Mike died in the end. He didn't finish off the assassin like he should have, (I would have)while he was BLINDED BY FLYING GLASS! The movie would have had a very different ending if he had.
Insurance guy? That man was the mob's accountant, and Sullivan could have walked in a shot him, no questions asked, if he wanted. (Remember what he told him at the beginning?) (Rance) "What do you want?" (Sullivan) "...information." Sullivan wanted the files, nothing more.
A shotgun has an effective range of 6 feet... if you knew anything about guns you would realize it is wildly inaccurate beyond that, and that's the reason the blast hit the wall. You can aim at one spot but the blast will spread out and hit a completely different area.
@aurkomaitra If the cops haven't noticed the whole 30-second barrage of shotgun blasts and .45 rounds, I doubt one more shot is gonna make them come running.
From the number of misspelled words ("dosnt"?)and poor sentence structure ("cuz i aint"), I would say everything that needs to be known about your level of intelligence is painfully obvious. Good luck in life, you're going to need it....
Not necessarily. He might have wanted to get out of there as soon as possible given the presence of his son and the risk of reinforcements either by gangsters or police.
Anyone else laugh when he's like "I'm okay, I'm okay! Just watch the road!" I thought of my father right away hahaha.
I hate to respond to a 12-year-old comment LOL but it sounds exactly like my dad too
@@UberKrispy same 🤣
Yeah, happened me too hahahahaha

there hadn't been bullets shot in awhile

at 4:39 .... funny how that accountant screamed and ran like a little girl when the assassin kicked in the door and started shooting.... ha ha ha!
Thanks for uploading, I love Road To Perdition. This is my fav scene from the movie! Tom Hanks and Jude Law are perfect!!!
"When are ya gonna let me out of this bed?"
Made me laugh.
I've got one of those coins that Jude Law rolls across his knuckles, a Walking Liberty half dollar. I really think it's the most beautiful coin the United States has ever produced.
McGuire was like, “Its on!” At 3:16

Bullshit because the accountant knew Jude was coming and got his back
The only surprised was Tom

this is one of the best scenes in the movie

Tom should’ve just finished him off when he was down. I never understood why a hitman didn’t do that.
In this case I would say fleeing before the police arrive. Plus there was also the fact he was not sure how wounded he was. One of my favourite films
I found myself trying to do that coin trick with the hands years ago, b/c of this movie lol. (at :53 secs)
Jamesklanto you sir are a treasure I watched this in the feds, my guy from Florida put me on, b4 I went to Georgia who knew America had white gangsters🤔😂😂
@thath09 Indeed. So funny when Mr. Rance yells: "Top marks for speed. no marks for cookery":-)
That long distance shot out of the hotel window with a pistol, at a tiny moving target is practically impossible.
Jude is kinda.....scary in this.
I love the film, but everytime I watch it with someone, it's the same comment: he should have finished the hitman ...

Best scenes Road to perdition ❤❤❤
Hey 🥰
I love the music in the run up to the shootout!!!
I would be inclined to agree...except for his performance in The Enemy at the Gates....love that movie
Dammit, Tom! Eliminate the assailant first! I know, I know, its a movie.
He should have finished Jude Law’s character off. Great film and cast.
For a hired assassin, Jude Law is a terrible shot.
He's always been skinny-ish, watch him in other films carefully. Probably he doesn't like to waste his time in gyms to built up muscles he doesn't need to look like everybody else! ;)
He couldn't hear the horn because of the device that was calculating the progress of Wall street.
@LiMaoTang I think it was because of the urgency of the situation he diddnt think about it since the sound might attract cops
It almost looks like the pistol slide is locked open when he takes the final shot lol
It is. That was a continuity error.
But if you think about it, Tom Hanks character looked like he was going after the insurance guy who was trying to escape.
i was in fourth grade when they filmed this scene in the town where i went to school
Geneva Illinois
Hank c'mon!! Double tap!
My question is, why didn't Tom hanks kill the hitman while he was on the ground grasping his face...
to thegiantpidgeon: i think that gun is an army colt 45, model 1911, clip loading
@superhornet69 i think its a P38 Walther, not sure of the calibre.
The spilled blood on the curtains makes no sense.
i remember the name of the movie now. its called running scared. the kid im talking about is tom hanks kid mike.
It's funny, watch at 4,38, there is already the shoot impact in the wall, but it's dissimulate...
Respond to this video... "Michael look out the tractor, look out the tractor coming now. Watch out!" then the car barely doesn't hit the tractor and Michael: "Oh, we made it!" " "yeah, yeah, we "made" it"...hahahaha
@Salguine they might have been on their way, or the rush may have gotten to him so he lost the need.
4:55 - and that's why Mike died in the end. He didn't finish off the assassin like he should have, (I would have)while he was BLINDED BY FLYING GLASS! The movie would have had a very different ending if he had.
Ima Paine-diaz
The same scenario happens in all the movies.
Had he killed the assassin there would have just been a different guy at the house
Insurance guy? That man was the mob's accountant, and Sullivan could have walked in a shot him, no questions asked, if he wanted. (Remember what he told him at the beginning?)

1:29 so tom hanks thinks he's James Bond now? 007 licence to kill? Jokes with Daniel craig
I wish I could do that with a coin
Just in this movie
@aurkomaitra If the cops haven't noticed the whole 30-second barrage of shotgun blasts and .45 rounds, I doubt one more shot is gonna make them come running.
Tom hanks mobster
how does he coin roll so good
@Salguine in the game they play. The cops are paid to hear no evil, say no evil, see no evil.
He wants a boiled egg !
He will get one
How about that as a movie line ?
How Did Maguire Gets Shot In The Face Sobbing In Agony?
Vassili Man
@92af I thought he was kinda miscast in this movie. He did fine, but this is not really a role for Jude Law
Mike debería haber matado a su perseguidor ahí mismo, cuando estaba en el suelo y herido.
is that the same kid who plays in that movie with paul walker? i forget the name
Were you and your father being chased by Jude Law at the time?
he didnt mean to shoot the accountant
@Salguine Oh. Well i'll shut my mouth then. Enjoy the movie lol
Take that photo
@ShawnMichaelsNo1 LMFAO!!
What is the name of the music that plays during these scenes in the soundtrack?
Road to Perdition soundtrack- Thomas Newman. Works the hell out of his strings...❤❤❤
lol
@YoungGrizzly82 :D xx
2:32
@DaveTheBunny coming from someone with a username of DaveTheBunny x
he aint got no aiming with the shotgun if thats what you mean
And yet.. he can hit a moving target 50 yards away with a short barreled pistol, after being blinded by shards of glass
What don't you like about Jude Law?
1:12 #nomatterwhat
Jude law for me steals the show....i love tom hanks but Jude is a class above.
Im really impressed with jude law's acting in this movie bc in every other movie i think he sucks.
His teeth really suck.
From the number of misspelled words ("dosnt"?)and poor sentence structure ("cuz i aint"), I would say everything that needs to be known about your level of intelligence is painfully obvious. Good luck in life, you're going to need it....
in a real life situation, hanks would have shot jude law a second time to kill him... he had all the chance in the world to!!! rubbish script..
Not necessarily. He might have wanted to get out of there as soon as possible given the presence of his son and the risk of reinforcements either by gangsters or police.
