    I hope you enjoy this anime, it is great! The first episode of this anime was originally planned to be released as a 90 minute movie but was instead changed into 4 episodes released on the same day. To get the full sense of the anime you should watch the first 4 episodes before deciding if you want to continue. That being said I believe you will like it enough to continue the series.

      Oh wow! That's great to know, thanks! I wish I would've known before starting, I would've sat and watched all four back to back! But anyway, it's such a beautiful, comforting, and thought-provoking show so far. Different than the other shows that I've been watching lately, and I love it!

    Im so happy you're doing the English dub, its up there with Death Note in terms of quality in my opinion and nobody seems to give it a chance

    • @danadubs
      @danadubs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think the English dub for this show is great! I watched the Japanese version, and I feel like they captured her easygoing, nonchalant spirit perfectly in both versions. Death Note was great too! That one always makes me feel warm and fuzzy because it's the first anime (I guess aside from Pokemon, growing up) that I really watched! It's what got me here!

    • @atsq17
      @atsq17 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I respect everyone’s opinion but I think that even in the best dubs, English has a slightly overacted or unnatural feel whereas the Japanese just sounds right; especially in the expressions and emotions.

    • @danadubs
      @danadubs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree 1000% with your comment. I think it's because so many of the actors (or the studios) put so much emphasis on matching the mouth flaps and they switch up the cadence to match accordingly. I think this screws up with the cadence a lot of times and makes certain words sound unnatural and overacted (or sometimes, the dubs are just really bad. I think this is especially the case with kdramas) I think on an even deeper level, I think the popularity for voice actors just isn't what it is in Japan. Voice actors in Japan are treated like celebrities and paid accordingly, whereas most voice actors in the US lose their jobs to celebrities who don't have the same experience in voice acting and they also have to produce work so much faster and with less takes while also getting less pay.

      interesting....... making me wonder if Frieren will make it to the end of the season

    So a few comments, tho I'll be careful not to spoil anything.
    The story starts off in the "central lands", which is a bit vague. We never travel to the "southern lands" and only know that Fern is originally from there. They will be heading north. But we don't get country names but hear of various villages. They came back to the royal capital, but we don't know the name of the kingdom. There are maps at time, but no national boundaries...
    We don't know how long elves live. They are very long lived, but not certain if they are immortal. We will learn how old Frieren is. Dwarfs live 300 years, but don't know if we ever learn how old Eisen is.
    This is based on a manga, and the anime adapts up to chapter 60, which is in the 7th volume. But the manga is up to 130 chapters. 10 volumes are out in English, and there will be 3 more to get us to 130. Its on hiatus, but the story is not over.
    This series makes great us of flashbacks. The note about the German names is important. People and places are given German names and these are important. Some complain that "nothing happens" in this series, but you will hopefully see that's not so.

    • @danadubs
      @danadubs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I really appreciate you taking the effort to write this while trying not to spoil me!
      Oooh, that's really interesting. I'm very curious to learn more about Fern's backstory and how exactly she ended up where she is now and what happened to her family AND the southern lands. I wonder if Frieren has been there at some point in her very very long life.
      I wonder what the significance of her age is, it seems like they are being very hush hush about it. I'm assuming she's in the thousands, but maybe that's a huge overshot. I don't remember how old the dwarf from the part was, but I think he's getting to the end of his lifespan, so her whole party will be deceased soon (minus her).
      Have you read the manga? If you have, what did you think of it? I really hope they continue the anime adaptation of it, I'm loving it so far!
      Someone else commented about translating the names to German too, and I think it adds a lot more dimension to the characters..
      (here's what I surmised from that: Himmel=sky
      Heiter=clear
      Frieren=freeze
      Fern=far
      That makes so much sense now why there are so many shots of the sky, especially when the male characters are involved. I wonder if Frieren's name is a nod to her almost being frozen in time, while time flies by for everyone else? And Fern, has a far way to go and a lot to learn. )
      I can understand that criticism, it does seem like a much slower-paced show, but it feels like it's slowly building into something much much bigger. I'm sure Frieren has SEEN SOME THINGS, and they will slowly start to unravel as the episodes go on.
      Thanks! This has been a great discussion so far!!

      @@danadubs I actually started to read the manga before I heard they were going to do the anime. I think they did a great job of adapting it. The character designs are taken directly from the manga, so its almost like a story board BUT they did make a few changes, sometimes taking what is a one panel scene and turning into a great piece of animation. You'll see this in episode 15.
      The series makes great use of flashbacks, often with characters in the flashback saying things that are echoed by characters in the now. We will learn more about Frieren's journey with the hero party, but this will come out slowly thru flashbacks.
      Also, we get bits of info (sometimes more in something shown) that don't make sense until much later. Some reactors miss this because they aren't paying attention.
      Someone recommended watching certain episodes in "blocks", even if you do separate reaction videos. Episodes 1-4 should be one block. 5-6 another, 7-11 another is what I'd recommend.
      On the names. There is a YT who is German who did a series of reaction videos, and then did another video JUST on the german words and their meanings. Really was good.
      I don't want to say too much about Frieren as a character now until you have watched episodes 4 and 10. That's all I'll say.

    • @danadubs
      @danadubs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nice! I'll have to check out the manga. The show is already so beautiful, so I can't even imagine the manga! I've got a ways to go, but I'll make sure to pay close attention to all of the information thats given and also look out for episode 15.
      You're making me very very excited to continue watching this show, I'm thrilled to continue on this journey! I think it will be very interesting to see how they use the flashbacks to tell the story, I did want to know more about her party and their 10 year journey.
      I'm going to watch some more today, so I'm glad that you guys recommended watching it in blocks. I might also post them in the longer block format, too??
      You'll have to share that video with me, that sounds really really interesting.

      @@danadubs I also read a bit of the manga, and I'd like to give my 2 cents if you don't mind. I won't be revealing anything too spoilery, but idk how much you care about the topic of combat so VERY VERY SLIGHT SPOILERS
      Combat in the series is not a high priority, and the manga makes that very obvious. In spite of the good art in the manga, the fight scenes are.... kinda bad 🤷🏾‍♂. Boring choreography, bad direction, most of the time, it looks like the characters aren't even aiming at each other. Combat is the weakest element of Frieren, but as you can see from episode one, it's not the point of the series. Piggybacking off of what Michael said, the anime elevated basically everything about the series, including the fights. He said, "they did make a few changes, sometimes taking what is a one panel scene and turning into a great piece of animation." That is 100% true about combat. They are few and far in between, but all of them are movie level quality now.

    As much as I'd like to watch the reaction, I just can't with the music missing or being replaced. I know it's a pita with copyright but to me at least the music is an integral part of the whole art piece. I'm not trying to troll here, I really would like to watch the reaction for - you know - the reaction itself. I wouldn't bother to comment here if I didn't care anyway.
    That being said this might just be me and the vast majority of people either don't mind the music or not be bothered about it enough to stop them from watching.
