When I'm playing the 'surprise warfactory' build, I prefer to get techs for steel balls, sledges and crawlers as well. Less money for warfactories means you're only gonna be able to afford 4-6 in the last two rounds, but you get a lot more units than just phoenixes.
Agreed, this strategy needs Warfactories with everything on it! At the very least it needs the Balls with Mechanical Division to protect the Phoenixes. That also basically shuts down a Marksman counter.
@@samblanton9010 Good point, with EMP it wouldn't really do anything. Not everyone runs EMP on their Marksmen in FFA though, but in that case it's not an effective counter to begin with.
Thinking about it, if they have no units, you could just place something like a stormcaller/Phoenix or whatever in their backline early on too, and farm their towers for a free 100 supply per round.
Been a bit since i commented, but i actually enjoyed this more than your other replay reviews, they're entertaining ofc, but seeing you show how you'd counter it was very insightful from a educational pov, great work oiyoyoyoybrak
Marksmen and Phoenix can work with electro-mag. Scorpion with AA/ marksmen and slow Fangs. If you are running overlords as an opposing player, you can just drop backline and mess up the strat, especially with jump drive. Alternatively, if you win on turn 8-9 you don't need to worry. I think one good option when you see them saving is to just start deploy anything (particularly jump drive) on their flanks since it is free 100 gold a round and the debuff prevents them getting some gold if they do not react.
@@Kratatch you are right with the meta carry tech (range+elite+jump+shield). If the wasp swarm deploys into the WF player on T7(when the boss shows) it can crush the WF. WF spam might still win with unit flow if it lasts a few turns. The additional enemies for the wasps to fight can help them gain levels. The empty player location also lets the wasps avoid bad fights.
I personally really enjoy all the cheese strat videos, the cheesier the better. Like in food, everything is better with a bit of cheese. I mean you see what replays I´m submitting mostly...
I saw something like this coming once but still lost because I was across from the Factory player and got hyper focused by my neighbors and the AI. It was disappointing to watch the lobby just ignore the factories and let them win.
You should lean into phoenix upgrades, respawn, range and elite. Maybe get 1 defensive cheap upgrade for balls and sledge. Then factory, 1 or 2 and focus on their level rather than quantity.
I remember after the first video I saw someone doing the same strat. told the whole lobby on Round 3 and started farming dude's towers for free extra income while I prepped to ruin his day. Won that game and his factories were completely ruined. The only Cheese in Mechabellum that is actual BS which ruins games is the abandon base strat. That shit is just so anti fun for everyone else.
So... The game goes beyond the amount of rounds that says in the replay. As round 10 rolls in, you can see the players doing things, like upgrading units. Cobrak decides that this is a bug, but that the bug is "The match ended on round 9 and now the game is just making up an entire extra round that never happened, all by itself out of the blue, during a REPLAY" instead of "The game is just not showing me the last round".
It didn’t go past round 9, the upgrades and what not were being triggered because he went back to the beginning of round nine to take control not because round 10 was playing.
You can see the same acid pool in the beginning of round nine, it disappears at the end of the replay and comes back when Cobrak takes control of the replay. This is because he took control at the beginning of round nine, same reason why there are upgrade sounds and units being purchased.
Problem is that this player is running just phoenixs. Where's the Phoenix shields? Where's the stream of tanks? What about the steel balls that explode into crawlers? You're saying you have the solution against the worst use of this strategy. Also, cost control does it better as they earn extra money every round. And more could've been earned by Rhino Sniping the supply towers.
my friend my friend , this was my very first attempt of this strategy and there wasnt enough money to go around for max phoenix techs in general with that many factories
@@ashshutt468 Sorry to call you the worst use then, but that helps make my point. He points out this is beatable against someone trying it for the very first time.
Lose alot to it because no one counters it. Its pretty lame it subtracts from the strategy aspect. Yes it can be countered 1v1 but not in a 4 man ffa . Always 1 or 2 people doing their own thing.
i play a FFA or two at the end of the ranked day to relax. always custom lobbies, never going for a win, always forcing something silly. yesterday i actually managed to win with fully teched multi beam melters because nobody cared to buy EMG. to me this mode is inherently imbalanced and i don't really understand why you would main it, but to each their own.
Actually, I think it has its own balance. For example, in faa I stopped getting the multi beams for MP because as soon as you buy that, counter strategy is opponent just gets regular MP and destroys your "less ranged" MPs. I did this once (-:

@@jelleklapwould mech div actually help since marksman counter requires emag anyways?

We Love the Cheese, Cream Cheese, Nacho Cheese, The Cheesier the better. Keep bringing the cheese Cobrak!
You rang?
Your marksman play was absolutely delightful. It does show players sometimes you just need to think strategies through in order to defeat them.
thanks for reviewing my game! just stumbled across it and wasnt even aware you had reacted!

Replay takeover is such a cool feature. I really like seeing you talk about how to beat a strategy then show the counter actually work!
I think transparency is golden. You are teaching people about this and maybe how to counter it.
I love that you can take control of a player on a round. Such a cool idea

Just so people know you can put units on the far oponets back line in ffa
I think i have seen this strategy win a total of two times and i have seen a lot of it. It is easy to counter.
