  • Consider this a prologue to our Civil War series. David Lintern, a volunteer at the James A. Garfield National Historic Site, discusses the Mexican-American War where most Civil War officers saw their first active combat.
Learn about Ulysses Grant's remarkable equestrian escape, the march to Mexico City, and why Santa Anna was a hero to some Mexicans and a traitor to others.

Back than the US did what Russia is doing today. They claimed they need to protect the English speaking settlers from the repressive catholic, spanish speaking state of Mexico into which those settlers emigrated voluntarily just a generation before. So the US was "forced" to intervene militarily and as a nice little side effect, they expanded their territory by a huge junk of land. After the annexation they made a little genocide on the natives, to clear the land for farming, which by the way was done mostly by African slaves in Eastern Texas (something the Spanish never had done) ... and today they are all sooo proud of their history.

    Did they just got forgotten?

Why would they parade poorly fed, equipped, and dressed soldiers?

The US went with almost 80k soldiers vs 40k soldiers. Why do you say Americans were outnumbered?
