  • So, you've photographed all the "cool" spots in Tokyo? Well, go somewhere unexpected - a place that's off the beaten tourist path. Oimachi never disappoints, and no matter if you go during the day or at night, you'll be in for so many surprises.
    Support the local and indie shops in the area. Enjoy a nice drink and meal when you visit!
    Here's a map to the station. Go and explore!

    Cool clip from Oimachi! I went there in the evening last year and like you said it felt slightly intimidating at first, but it was totally fine. Very nice old school atmosphere and very few tourists from wihat I could tell. I don't live in Japan, but I usually come back once every year and like you I love to venture out to these deep Tokyo areas to soak in the vibe/hang out/eat and do street photography. Looking forward coming back in May-June this year again.

    I'm the opposite.. when I go with others I feel like it draws more attention to me and I feel more uncomfortable.. when I'm aloe, I can move in and out like a street ninja :) Oimachi is a great part of the city! keep up with the videos!

    I worked in Oimachi from ‘90 - ‘93 at a company named Koyosha. It was a printing company that went bankrupt some years back. Oimachi was very nondescript back then. Very simple and plain. Your video piqued my interest for a visit.

    • @TokyoGritandGrain
      @TokyoGritandGrain  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh! That's super interesting. I know there's so much change in Tokyo and it happens both fast and slow, but to think about Oimachi being very quiet in the early '90s sounds so fascinating to me. The small alleyways there, do you feel they've been around in previous decades?

    • @ricefieldrecords
      @ricefieldrecords หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TokyoGritandGrain Nothing has changed structurally in terms of the narrow walkways and the covered snacks. The only addition I can see is the addition of graffiti and colorful band logo and brand paper plastering on walls and whatnot. It's just the vibe, It's certainly no Shin-Okubo and not as hip as Koenji form what I can tell. PS - I really like your narration and how you capture yourself in video. I aspire to that with my channel. Cheers!
