    Super Tenere's might not have the hard core reputation of the KTMs or even BMWs GS's but 210,000 Ks without a problem shows how well Yamaha's are made, and reliability like that is hard to come by these days if you have a look around the web... Well done Shane.

      At the time this video was made there was no way in the world someone did 200,000+ kms on 1 bike.
      Someone with Yamaha doing development/testing pre release might of come close, but 200,000kms in 12mths for example = better part of 500kms per day.

    Great video of a fabulous ADV concept -- a Rally, not a race, and choice of tracks, too. Thanks for the personal touch with the interviews. Fun to see what others manage to get through to the end of the trail. 2002 640 ADV will be here in about a month.

    I think that if a bloke wants to buy a big adventure bike and try to do a major off road trip regardless if its "too heavy" "Too big" etc good on him all these haters yakking on about tyres and posing get a life if these fellas have a go wots it to anyone else except them... as long as their out there enjoying themselves who are we to judge?

      I don't care what bike I ride. Just road a 220cc Bajaj road bike through North India, followed by riding a KTM1190 Adventure through New Zealand. Both experiences were fun.

      +McStiffles You really should do this, particularly with our AU dollar so weak at present. rideadv.com.au have Yamaha WR250 Rs and Tenere's, or similar set up for hire. Just an incredibly great way to see the real Australia and get immersed in the ADV ride community. A Canadian came on this ride.

    I love the comments on Adventure Touring videos. As bad a Harley videos. Seems like any bike that requires a good income to own gets a lot of haters.
    Most of the guys who can competently ride these big adventure bikes off road grew up riding off road. I started riding off road at 40. Started on a DRZ400S, went to a KLR650, and now use a KLX250S.
    I might get a Super Tenere for street touring because I like the riding position. If Honda would have put Cruise Control and Electronic suspension on the CrossTour, I might have gone that direction.

      1600km per day translates to 16 hours of a absolute non-stop rate at a constant speed of 100km/h. And he said, and I quote: AT LEAST 1600km.
      Conclusion. He got way ahead of himself there for a second.

    Suspension work aside better off with a XT660R, it's 25 kilos lighter to start with which is the biggest single modification you could ever do to a Tenere .. & much easier on single tracks without the heavy/bulky fairing & extra bling getting in the way.

    Yamaha super tenere or KTM Adventure might be comfortable to ride until you fall off & wish you had An XR400 😯 But then again , that many kms on a duelsport makes you saddle sore....was there any discussion about who had the most comfortable seat...I couldn't do a ride this big without doing serious reserch on a good after market saddle 😉

    Shit, after this video, I'm even more undecided than before: I want to upgrade to either a XT660 Ténéré or a KTM 690 Enduro in the not so distant future. Of course, I'll never ride trails as hard as you guys in the video, because we don't have things like these here in Germany, but I'd still like to go off the beaten path if possible. So I'm asking myself: Is the extra money for the KTM worth it, in terms of offroadability and performance, or will I not even sense a big difference?

    • @theslipperface
      @theslipperface 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had both, I still have the XT660Z. I'd rather the 690, mainly due to weight (200kg vs 150kg) and its easier to service (removing tank or doing valves on the tenere is a PITA)

    Yamaha USA has made a horrible mistake, thinking that their marketing people have a true grasp on what the U.S. market wants. by not having a mid-weight dual-sport, like the Tenere, they have lost market share they didn't recognize is real.Having the Super Tenere at one end and the WR250R at the other, there is a void that forces riders/owners like me to go to KTM or other brands to fill that niche.Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki disregard the U.S. market and we get the crap bikes in this portion of the market. Until we see a Tenere or something as capable, and as ugly, I will be a KTM/Husqvarna guy.IMHO.... Ride safely and always have fun.Jim in Florida

      idk. daily im an urban rider i ride in traffic jam for 6hour a day an average for going work, home and other business. heavy motorcycle will hurting my shoulder and waist so i always use small cc motorcycle that weights below 160kg.
      i cant imagine long trip in rough road with heavy motorcycle it sems really inconvenience.
      or maybe western people have more muscle idk.

    • @threethrushes
      @threethrushes 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's true that the average Westerner is 'heavier' than say, the average person from Japan or India.
      It may explain why Harleys are so big - to cater for the US market.
      My guess is that a heavier frame requires more muscle to move it.

    Ludicrous. 99% of these "world adventurers" are just posers who will use their tuned bike to show off in front of a coffee shop... You can take the bike around the world, stock. Many did it on a 125cc!! Adventure is an attitude.

      Did you watch the video? These guys aren't posers (hell there was a 2 time iron butt'er in there)... that's some challenging stuff for midsized ADV bikes (and there was a GS in there... which is way to big to be fun on that boggy sloppy track). Unless you have the time to plan a ride like that and the money to pay for a chase vehicle... options like this are a great way to get out there.

    • @FlecheDeFer
      @FlecheDeFer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did not say these guys are. I said "99% of these (so-called) world adventurers" (who spend their day watching that kind of videos or discussing for hours on forums like ADVRiders to ask extremely important questions such as "to go around the world, do I need to use TKC80, Karoo3 or HeidenauK60" as if this choice was definitive and would radically change their trip) are. And that 99% will never do anything that would even remotely justify any of these modifications. But they will get a boner every time they look at their bike in the garage or see their own reflection in a shop window while on a ride to buy milk...
      It is all about appearance, show-off, not ride. Sad but true. Luckily, you never see these guys while really traveling around the world: they are at home watching football!

    it's a pity they put a sissy boy powered 660cc into this frame. There is a huge market for a light weight, sufficiently powerful (and affordable) adventure bike,. Had they put in a decently powerful motor like on the KTM690 into this frame, it would completely own the market.
