This tale ended up being far more compelling than I had originally anticipated. Great story!

I heard from several folks that there were two brothers selling Cairo artifacts and Ed knew all about it and they just went out and showed them where the ship was.

I heard the same story that Ed had several in his possession and that he told them he'd call the law if they didn't show him. But several folks said it was an open secret where it was and had been for years.

Ed Bearss and Shelby Foote were my favorites.

I have heard that the locals knew where it was because the pilot house would come out of the water when the water was low. But kudos to the guys for finding it.

I would pronounce the name of the boat same as you but the chap talking in this pronounces it differently. Amazing how they built these boats. How did not sink with the weight & people & cargo. Cheers Lynne Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 ❤

This is not to belittle, it is a common mistake, but it is pronounced Kay-ro or Kerr-o. Kye-ro is in Egypt. My wife is from Canada and we live not far from Cairo. It took me years to get her to pronounce it correctly. LOL.

The name of this ship is pronounced "kay-row" as is the town in Illinois it was named after.

Well... for starters, you're pronouncing the name incorrectly. It is pronounced "Care-oh". That is also how the locals pronounce it.
