I believe that the people of Termina knew about the golden goddesses and used to worship them. Then one day the people found out about a golden treasure that was up in the heavens and the golden goddesses had it. So they built stone tower temple to reach the heavens and get the treasure (aka the triforce). The goddesses got mad and took the light arrows and turned the tower/temple so the people would fall into hell instead. The people stopped worshiping them and turned to the four giants for their protecters. Since then they don't really like the goddesses anymore and liked to disrespect them and their golden treasure.
2011: hey everybody, it's chuggaconroy, welcome back to another legend of zelda majora's mask... 2017: HEY everybody, it's CHUGGACONROY! And welcome back to another LEGEND of ZELDA, SKWARD SWORD! He's grown so much.
When you think about it, the deku statue is actually the saddest. When you think about, that deku scrub was just a child when he died. It's really sad. And to think, this was also the one the deku princess loved. I mean, it's different with the deku princess then with other princesses. all the other princesses get their wedding with the one THEY loved, but the deku princess... The one she loved... He never came home... She waited so long until the butler, the dead deku scrub's father found out that his son had died. And in the comic for majora's mask, as soon as link put on the deku mask for the deku princess again, she burst into tears and started to cry and ran somewhere in the palace. You can see how much she loved that little scrub, yet, he died.
I love the theme of this temple and I love the overall theory behind it. VortexxyGaming gave a theory about this temple as being like the Tower of Babel in Babylonian times where the people tried to build a tower to the heavens and marvel at their awesome structure. In this game, the first room you enter into in the temple, there is a big face doing the stink eye as a "screw you" to the gods of Termina. And in this pursuit of immortality and pride darkness crept into the peoples' hearts and they began fighting each other, killing all inhabitants of Ikana. The resulting overall feeling of Ikana is regret, one of the stages of grief.I love how deep the Zelda games are.
Heather P you are entirely correct on the idea of it being similar to Babylonian legend Stone tower is based off of the Tower of Babel...only Zelda-fied...
My theory is that the Garo built the tower for the Goddess/Giant conflict. Light hurts them, light arrows are locked away in the tower so nobody could get them, also the Boss Garo himself is guarding it. Plus, in a tower built to show the Giants superiority over the goddesses they have the Giants mask there.
Plain and simple, my favourite dungeon in the series. Maybe it's the ambiguity of its backstory (I love the theory Chuggaa's talking about) or the fact that it really is like a darker version of OoT's Spirit Temple. Not only is it challenging but it is very rewarding when you consider that you receive some great items both during the temple and after you've completed it. Nice to see you explaining why this temple is so great considering its bad reputation among fans.
Oh, Chugga... just goes to show what kind of fans you have! You uploaded this video years ago, and people are still watching and commenting! Like it was just uploaded yesterday!
This area is so much easier on the 3ds version! 4 item slots, plus the Ocarina being in the bottom right corner never taking up an item slot is so helpful
I really hate how they changed the boss fights in the 3DS like Odalwa a fun sword and shield battle but ruined don’t even get me started on gyorg and twinmold ugh
*I believe the ancient people who built the tower KNEW that of the land that was above them, Hyrule... and they knew of the Triforce and wanted to take it for themselves. So they began to build a tower to reach the land of Hyrule, but for whatever reason they failed.*
The theory I tend to really like about the origins of Stone Tower is that the Dark Interlopers (the ancestors of the Twili) were the builders. With the similarities between Majora's Mask and Midna's helmet patterns, it could be said that the dark, corrupting magic within both the mask and the fused shadows could be the same. Also, the statues mocking the Triforce and the goddesses would have fit in with how the Dark Interlopers for their heretic deeds.
We know that Ikana didn't make the temple because the king said that not even 100 of his men could conquer it, so why would they build something that no one can get to or conquer. Something else before Ikana must have made it. Perhaps an ancient tribe, maybe that's why there is majora's mask's symbals in it. It also makes sense why the statues are licking the triforce, Majora would hate the golden goddesses because she's the exact opposite to them.
Let me toss a little story about a warring period in Peru as recounted when Charles Darwin stopped by: To summarize, the "President" who had managed to conquer his rivals and assume temporary control of the nation had his old fortress disarmed and partially turned down when he moved into the capital. Why did he do this? Because he knew there was nobody he could trust to leave in charge of the fort because his own rebellion was staged out of the very same fortress and nobody could beat him while he held it. Sometimes nations build outposts that can turn traitor to devastating effect.
There's also a theory that majora was created by the twilight because if you look at majora's eye and midnas mask eye they look very simallar but why would the twilight build it?
+samuel Denzine Why would you lick something you hate? I feel like it's more of a way that they used to try and reach the golden realms and thus claiming the triforce for themselves but how they ended up adding a switch that would reverse the temple is a mystery. My guess is that it had something to do with the Garos or Gomes.
I’ve been binge watching this because I’m passing the time until Chuggaa uploads another episode of phantom hourglass. This was actually the first let’s play series I ever watched and it feels so good to come back to it all these years later. The last time I saw this was when I was obviously too young to understand Emile’s innuendos (I was 11). Thank you chuggaa for uploading content that never gets old
So many heartless soldiers with so much reference potential, makes me want to throw my keyblade across the room. Musta been from before he knew about kingdom hearts.
this is a great temple, but the reason why its not my favorite is because if you miss a fairy, unlike in all three other temples that are relatively easy to get around, in this temple each room takes forever, and finding missing fairies is a pain in the ass.
I have to wonder is link ever gonna you know tell people it was him in the mask? The Gorons think their mighty warrior is back only to disappear later when/if link leaves. Mikau im assuming is the father of lulu's eggs will disappear leaving Lulu even more heart broken. The frogs will never sing again in spring. etc my god seems like letting the world end would be the kinder thing to do 0-o
Stone Tower is probably one of my all time favorite dungeons. It's an awesome way to conclude the adventure as it makes use of every transformation + regular Link, I love the overall aesthetic of the place and the music is great.
I don't know about anyone else, but Stone Tower Temple is one of my all-time favorite Zelda dungeons. For one, it's the only dungeon whose theme music plays outside the actual temple itself (cause it's just that awesome). Also, said theme music is possibly one of the most atmospheric, awe-inspiring tunes in the Zelda series. And best of all, Stone Tower is one of the most intricately complex dungeons in Zelda history; that means you'll be hearing the epic theme music for a LONG time. I love it!
it does have one good use that the other 3 statues can't do. it can actually be a hookshot target. the hookshot latches onto wood, and deku are wood, so its good if you want an easy way up to a place you've been.
Whenever Chuggaa asks why stone isn't being melted, I groan. DIFFERENT MATERIALS HAVE DIFFERENT MELTING POINTS. EVEN DIFFERENT TYPES OF STONE. If all rock melted at the same temperature, then there would be no volcanoes, or anything like that. Hell, the whole planet would probably be just be a big ball of magma.
I, too think the Tower of Babel has nothing to do with the stone tower either. However, I can believe that this was there before some people from termina weren't too fond of the goddesses.

Dungeons may be irritating but if a Dungoen isn't irritating, is it really a good dungeon?? I loved Stone Tower and I especially loved Ikana Castle and all of the lore within those areas. 💖💖💖I really do believe Stone Tower is one of Nintendo's best dungoens.
+Majora's mask ....No it doesn't. You can do either the Spirit or Shadow Temple last or second to last, and it's much more common for people to do the Spirit Temple after the Shadow Temple.
TheHerbivoreWaffle Going by how the game is laid out the Shadow temple is LAST. I can do it first if i so wanted to (thank you glitches), heck I normally just do water first because its my favorite (I get the bow from forest then leave), but in ORDER shadow it is last. I am also the kind of person who like to get Twinmolds remains first, does that mean he's the first boss officially, no. The shadow medallion comes AFTER the spirit one, so end of argument.
i wasnt making an argument and you just proved my point, i wasnt saying that watever order you or someone else does is wrong i was just saying in game an in medallion terms its in that order
About the portals, it's part of the light that shines down on you when you refight the temple's boss, and the light always spawns above the platform, even when the platform is upside-down.
chagga ur a really good lp maker. you keep it funny, you seem to know what your viewers want to see, like cutting the right parts out and fast forwarding the kinda boring bits, organising sided missions and story etc, you even give information about the game and things like the back stories to the game, which is really interesting, and you just don't get boring. i hope your channel gets the recognition it deserves man.
lol when you played the elegy of emptiness song at the beginning of the dungeon when you saw the face of the clone up close you screamed. I jumped and crushed my arm under my desk
Has anyone noticed? The statues that appear after playing the elegy of emptiness, are those that are dead. Mikau, Darmani....and Link. Perhaps the terminian adventure Link is on, is actually Link in purgatory.
I was distracted from 6:51-7:31 because I was watching you trying to figure out how to get to the next box. I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes mistakes like that. lol
The Stone Tower is also my favorite in this game, due to the fact that every Stray Fairy is in a Treasure Chest which kinda makes it a living hell, but still this temple is awesome.
The Deku sculpture should be used as a hookshot point. There could be some really interesting puzzles with that, like leaving the sculpture on a moving platform.
For those curious, no, it is not possible to reflect the beamos' lazer beams back at them. Even with the mirror shield. Even in OoT with that game's mirror shield. The only thing that will happen is the beamos will stop FIRING ITS LAZAAR for a brief moment before charging up for another beam. The only way to defeat a beamos is by using explosives near it. Explosives include: blast mask, bombs, bomb flowers, bombchus, and the powder keg. They can't even be defeated by the megaton hammer, despite the megaton hammer being stronger than bombs. Beamos will close their eye if it is shot with an arrow, stunning them. This also sometimes happens with the hookshot if it hits the beamos in the eye, but only if the beamos takes one bomb to kill. If it takes more than one bomb, then it won't be able to be stunned by the hookshot.
When i was 8 my friend showed me this game. However, he only showed me the end, which he failed and i saw the moon crash into the earth and that scared the crap out of me. Nightmares for weeks.
I'm gonna miss listening to the stone tower temple music for the first time...I find it neat to do the temple at night in the game, turn off all the lights and play at night in real time.
Mikau seems like the saddest soldier. He looks kinda sad, and no one really found out about his death...yet. But I agree. The Deku one just looks huggable
This comment is 7 years late, but I just wanted to mention that the owl statue at the top of Stone Tower actually is in the Japanese version. Only the switches right in front of the dungeon are absent. I was just playing the Japanese version of Stone Temple today, so hearing him say that threw me off :P
the portal you are talking about is actually the light that shines down on the warp to the boss chamber. it is in all temples but is easiest to see in stone tower. that is what it looks like before it shines down.
I think that Stone Tower actually is part of the Dark World as you can see the statues that "lick" the Triforce in A Link To The Past in said world. It's pretty much the same statues, just upside down
My theory for stone tower is that, the "beings" who created it were actually trying to obtain the Triforce from the goddesses, that's why those statues had the Triforce on the end of their tongues, to " swallow" it. I created this theory because throughout the entire Zelda series it always mentions things trying to claim the Triforce, maybe The "beings" of stone tower were some of those things. Maybe that's why it was abandoned too, the Goddesses wiped them out. This is just my theory.
Not sure if Chugga mentions this at all but apparently, Deku link was created from the soul of the deku Butler's son. That's how skull kid did the curse. So, the empty soldier you leave behind is the Deku Butler's son.
3:01 ok...when I watch people play horror games or games that have scary parts in them, I usually am perfectly fine when there is a jump scare...BUT THAT SCARED THE BEJESUS OUT OF ME!
@Woot831 funny thing about stone tower when I first played this game it was with a broken N64 controller the R button on the controller didnt work so I couldnt use my sheld you can guess how furstrating that became in this temple
Technically, the tower itself is a part of the temple, main reason why both areas have the same theme and isn't interrupted when going between the two areas.
I believe that the people of Termina knew about the golden goddesses and used to worship them. Then one day the people found out about a golden treasure that was up in the heavens and the golden goddesses had it. So they built stone tower temple to reach the heavens and get the treasure (aka the triforce). The people stopped worshiping them and turned to the four giants for their protecters. Since then they don't really like the goddesses anymore and liked to disrespect them and their golden treasure.
That theory is brilliant.
that explains how the tower of babel story was referenced. It's remarkably similar, but I doubt that was what they're going for.
2011:
hey everybody, it's chuggaconroy, welcome back to another legend of zelda majora's mask...

luigimeansme people get it, they got it when OOT was released in 3d version

Galactic Overdrive Gaming This comment is pretty old, but it was just some speculation on the spot.
That's one reason I love about Majora's Mask. So much is unexplained.
Thanks Nintendo of America! If I have been playing the Japanese version I would most likely throw the game out the window.
Adaptoid throw it in space and let NASA find it, they would be proud

no i belive it was the twilight people look at the design of the mask and the fused shadow
maybe, but would the Twili have existed in Termina aswell?
Storm Rage or maybe the twili threw it away into termina or someplace at random
but why would the Ikanaians incorporate it? they already had the Giants as Deities
Storm Rage i said someplace random and remember in zant's throne room you will see the shika's symbol

I just had the random thought that the visuals of licking the triforce was to showcase the ancient terminians greed/hunger for power.
Chugga says in his outro: "In memory of our environment." Sad how accurate that is nowadays.
"We put a face on top of our face on top of our face..."
FACEPTION
these puns are friggen' amazing
YES! Time for my favorite Dungeon of all time!!!
in oot the spirit temple can be 2nd to last or last you get the option to choose
the portal you are talking about is actually the light that shines down on the warp to the boss chamber. it is in all temples but is easiest to see in stone tower. that is what it looks like before it shines down.
I think that Stone Tower actually is part of the Dark World as you can see the statues that "lick" the Triforce in A Link To The Past in said world. It's pretty much the same statues, just upside down
I couldnt stop laughing when you said " Im scared to move because the way the camera is-AHHHH!" 3:01
I hope he remembers to show us what the zora statue looks like because it looks like he forget to show us. ZORAS ROCK!!!
You are very funny chuggaconroy!
15:22 funny thing i never did the spirit temple last!! so for the longest time i had no idea what you were talking about the last temple.
"Deku form is completely useless."
"You need the might of all four forms to clear the temple."
Holy shit chugga, why did you make that camera angel with BEN's face? That scared the living crap out of me...
This was posted on my 9th Birthday! :O
8:18 best singing chugga has done.EVER.
3:01 ok...when I watch people play horror games or games that have scary parts in them, I usually am perfectly fine when there is a jump scare...BUT THAT SCARED THE BEJESUS OUT OF ME!
loving the phallic symbol protruding from that things mouth, holding the treasure chest (some people say its Majora)
Even though you always say you are bad at singing, you are still better then 90% of popular singers.
At 3:03, "...um I'm scared to move because the way the cam...AAH!! Ahahaha....(coughing while laughing)." I'm tellin ya, this dude's a real character.
The Stone Tower Temple is my favorite song in MM, though Chugga's favorite (Ikana Castle) comes at a close second.
i like the elegy of emptiness when goron link does it
