Just started playing wow a month or so before the launch of shadowlands and boosted a rogue a day before launch. Your videos have helped me in unmentionable ways on how to understand rogue haha. Great videos! Thanks for the help!
Good video! I would add that if you are in this situation with a full energy bar, just wait to do this trick for the next finisher, that way you can avoid the energy waste of waiting for the combo point to proc (energy is not to be wasted)
That’s a super great point. I explained this in the video sort of by talking about how it’s not a good idea to just sit and auto attack while your CDs are rolling, but you’ve explained it much clearer! Thanks Javier

ShadowT procs a lot. It hard to predict it while keeping track of everything in Arena. I normally play off of the point as soon as I use echo. Most of the time it just lands on the Anima point right on use. So I plan on eviscerating right after.
During burst phase it's not worth waiting for combo points to match anima point, especially if you're using Weaponmaster talent, which gives a chance for Shadowstrike 15% chance to hit again. Cool trick that I use a lot is to rotate your camera to the side. This trick is used for example if you sap your opponent in PVP and you wanna rupture him without breaking sap; you 'rupture to the side'. Basically you still have line of sight to use your skills but it won't autoattack and you won't get pushed 1cp, that way you can quickly alocate backstabs or shadowstrikes without worrying about the Shadow Techniques.
Do you think when Bonesmith Heirmir is available the Necrolord convenant would be a better option? I see more dps potential then Pelagos, but I may miss something... Any thoughts about this guys?
So what's better for pvp: a faster off-hand to proc quicker combo points or a slower off-hand with better stats ? Knowing that echoing reprimand has quite a long cd I'd still go for the better stats, right?
usually when you go for this you should always cosnider having slice and dice on, to get that 1 point faster when you dont want to risk using a backstab or whatever and go overboard with your combo. Btw isn't Engineering and Mining better than herbalism and mining I dont understand the logic
That’s cool for the info. It the real challenge is, when your pushing your burst to kill. You not gonna wait for that extra combo. It’s gonna be all about timing.
Yeah for sure! I agree. This video is more about those downtime windows in between Sdance and when you're in Torghast with all the super Echoing Reprimand powers!
Shadow techniques has been around, they have weakauras you track when you should get the combo point. Basically like a timer bar might make your life easier
Thanks for tips, btw cant find setting where i can make set my combo point to show under my portrait, got it on my target and it didnt show the needed anima combo point to spend...
At 1:12, when you displayed the ability, perhaps it should be noted that it happened to land on the amount of combo points you coincidentally had. It would also be nice to note that only DAMAGING finishing moves benefit from the effect. This is super nitpicky but if people are to watch this in order to learn how to beat rogues, meticulous caveats like these help:D I was about to write ''For instance, the passive Shadow Techiques (an autoattack proc that gives you a combo point and 8 energy) is something to keep in mind with the Animacharge as well'' when I realised that this is what the video is about. The thing is, you don't HAVE to land on the animacharged point at all. Especially in pvp, it is not a priority, pushing out Shadowstrikes and Eviscerates is prio in terms of damage. You have 45 seconds, you'll get it in the downtime, during burst, if it happens, great. If you don't get it for those 45 seconds, it's only a 7 point evisc instead of a 5 pt. It's not a big deal. The actual burst damage of Echoing Reprimand, guaranteed to crit through Symbols, that is a big deal. You don't have to stress it, you don't have to worry about consuming that animcharged combo point. The exception is in Torghast, when you get the instant reset (Ringing Doom; consuming your animacharged combo point resets the cd on your Echoing Reprimand/Kyrian class ability) combined with the Unceasing Chain Link (any finishing move increases the damage of your next combo point generator to deal 100% extra damage) and the epic Echoing Reprimand buff (Reverberating Strike) that will make your animacharged offensive finishing move act as if 20 combo points have been spent, especially in combination with the 25% buff to eviscerate, and ESPECIALLY in combination with the Unceasing Link, that allows your next combo point generator (e.g./i.e. ER) to do 100% damage, sending your target straight to the ER. I chained up to 5 animacharged eviscerates up with ''Unceasing Reprimands'', slaughtering bosses within seconds. That holy quadron (however you say it), that magnificent combination of those four anima powerups in Torghast, are incredible, and overhaul the playstyle completely. Other than that, you have 45 seconds to use the animcharged combo point, so don't stress it. It's amazing to get your Shadow Dance cd down through Deepening Shadows. But that's it. This video is great, also shoutout for making us rogue players aware of Shadow Techniques (and the value of actually reading spellbooks!). Been watching a lot now, and I can't thank you enough:D love your energy, laidback style, your drive to inform. Thanks a lot:DDD Sorry for the wall of text and sorry if some of the ability/powerup names/titles are off/wrong.
Thanks so much for the feedback lol. I catch what you're saying. Yeah I should have clarified more, the only real applicable times for this is on PvE/PvP downtime or playing around the ER powerups in Torghast! I also could've added using shiv and shuriken toss are great to get 1 cp!
@@Palumor and that the difference between 5 and 7 cb isn't that big! Sure, you can get a fat Eviscerate off during a dance with Symbols up, but it's nothing to mess up your rotation for! If it happens, it happens, if it doesn't, you got 45 seconds to hopefully get an evisc off on Find Weakness, without the Shadow Dance benefits
You need to keep in mind when is the last time u got the aa point. And based on that you can try using shuriken to get 1 (if it recently proced) or you can wait. Its actually nice mini gambling game bc its totally random (and shuriken can crit too )
Loving the videos mate, great content and very helpful! Waiting to land on the anima point from auto attacks really makes it a bit less boring when energy starved too; really makes you feel like you’re still in the heat of it all despite not pressing any abilities
Shadow Techinique was in game since 7.0(Legion). I mean it's big part of Sub Rogue playstyle since then. I don't know how you just figure this out now.
did you notice that if you consume the anima combo point say in the 2nd position with kidney shot it doesnt apply the full 6 sec stun when you just have the 2 combo points, even though it says it should act like 7 combo points meaning the full 6sec stun? how about that
Hey Palumor, Im curiuos how you setup your macro or keybinds for Shadow Dance and Symbols of Death, they look smooth, what im using now is not efficiency, really need some advice
Hey Super! If you check my channel I actually just did a macro/keybind video the day before this! I go over all my personal things. Let me know if that helps or if you have more questions. :) Good luck
I'll be completely honest Charles, a lot of players are seeming excited for that, but personally I don't think it's that amazing. Maybe I'm just an idiot but to me, I recognize that we have 30second cooldown that already guarantees a crit, and also we usually open from stealth with a cheapshot so, you're really only going to guarantee a crit on 2/4 more abilities you can fit into 4 seconds with this legendary. Maybe if it popped every time you shadow danced as well, not just out of stealth I'd like it more. I'm personally excited for either the vanish taking 20sec off CDs legendary, but primarily for Akaari's soul fragment! Damage seems nuts!
Hey, are you sure that wait for the generation is an efficient way? in my opinion it leads to some dps falling. I usually follow such strategy: for example i have kyrian compo point under number 2. When i have 1cp i just wait for 1-2 secs, and if passive didn't gain me cp i just going on with usual rotation. it doesn't lead to energy overcapping which waiting does and during 45secs of buff you will finish it 100%. Also i would highlight that if kyrian combo point is 4 then you shouldn't wait for it on 3rd combo point and just keep generating combo points, cause finisher on 5cp is quite efficient and you will not lose any dps cause during 45secs of buff you will use finisher on kyrian-cp 100%.
But if you don't wait at all you have a chance to finish eviscerate on 3cp :) imo its usable in pve, generally in pvp you don't have time to wait at all, especially during dance, and if you r not in dance - its better to run and don't get dmg
For pvp openers for 15 talent do you recommend weapon master or premed and why? I noticed you have weapon master but even for both pve and pvp I feel like it procs way too low so I run premed instead to get better initial sustained dps and it feels better opening on people in pvp too. I can't really figure out what's better because weapon master never procs for me.
Hey, great question! My preferences are as follows - Any PvP scenario - Premeditation Mythic+ - Premeditation Single Target bossfight - Weaponmaster Hope that answers for you. :)
@@Palumor ok that makes sense. I sometimes see some hardcore decade+ rogue mains (like 15 years) standby weapon master and hate premed and I don't understand why with its God awful proc chance. Mostly pvpers too. Just wondering if there was something I'm missing lol. I guess maybe if you're always opening with cheap shot there's no point in using premed I suppose.
@@Palumor yeah those are my thoughts as well. As long as it applies after using shadowstrike in shadowdance (forgot if it does off top of my head) I think the combo points are atleast worth it. Thanks for the tips
I do it the same way the difficult kicks when your anima point is on the 4. Doning no opener and open with autoattacks wont give you find weakness, so its wasted. Still, a cool but very weird talent and its hard to master
Hey! Helmet is from Illidan in Black temple, robe is from the Council in heroic 25man Throne of Thunder, gloves and shoulders are Fearless PvP set for rogues. Weapons are both from Maldraxxus quests! Hope that can help!
I figured this out exactly how you did. I went from feeling confused how to land it precisely, to discovering the passive ability, to deciding that i'll just wait for my auto attacks to generate the combo point needed to consume the animacharge. glad to know I thought correctly.
That makes so much sense, especially since you have so long to use the point you can spend all your energy and allow some to pool as you wait for the auto-attack proc.
I started off as necrolord for the first day and it felt okay, but once I swapped to Kyrian I really started to feel OP! I would definitely say I'm glad I'm not necro anymore but things like covenants are still subject to nerfs/buffs so I wouldn't stress it!
this is a really professional tip how to handle shadow techniques, i didnt ever noticed its not randomly generating combo points and its really worth knowing, not for kyrian only. check it out even if u're another covanant. thanks for the research.
Its funny I saw this video because like you I learned in tourgast to use autos for points, but I would definitely waste burst time trying to land on a certain number which multiple times I think caused me to die lol
Palumor Brother, me again, may I know your actual keybinds like you usually use, specially your combo attacks and cool downs. Backstab, shadow strike, shadow dance, eviscrete, kyrian spell, cold blood, etc. I wana copy your actual keybinds and start from there and practice. Thanks Man, your video uploads really help us special ly with Rogues. 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍
Hey! My keybinds are somewhat random and not really optimized so I'm not sure copying mine would be the best choice for you lol! But in general I put my common combo point generators around 1-5 on keyboard, and cooldowns all sorts of binds like Q, E, R, F, T, G, C, Z etc. Then I use ctrl and shift combined with those keys to multiply my binds. Your best binds are going to be the most accessible close ones like Q E and R, so use important fast reaction abilities on those ones!
@@Palumor Borther, thank you Man!, I really wana be a good pvp player, I mean I always get confuse with my key bindings and I always kept on finding the abilities before clicking it. And because of that my enemy already cast ma a spell or already ran from my combo. Do you have any suggestion Borther on how to get used with the bindings? Thanks Man. I only use Rogue as my main character.
@@jesskabigting1475 my best tip for you would be to just practice! Doing battlegrounds is good practice to start automatically learning where your abilities will be when you need them!
I actually don't know! I think that's the blizzard default UI. It might be buried into one of my other addons but I never got that intentionally! Good luck :)
Hey man, i am enjoying your guides lately! Picked up rogue again after leaving him in wotlk - so i was noticing this, and tried to improve this even further andthink i found a solution yesterday. I already had /start attack in my macros, mostly on my spammers (backstab/shadowstrike) which i can use then to press offgloabel to trigger the start attack. My problem with your technique is, that with bad rng you can waste up to 2-3 gloabels and waste potential energy - and i felt that this happened quite often and just hurts my efficiency. So i added a stopattack command to my dagger-throw spell, so when i am 1 combopoint below my empowered finisher, i throw a low energy 1 cost dagger, stop the autoattackingattack and can use evisc next gloabel. So i lose at worst 2 autoattacks and no energy. ofcourse its more buttons to press, but thats where the gains starts :D what do you think of this? have a great one buddy
I was just answering some one else with the same idea of a /stopattack! This idea is actually so insightful and brilliant! I definitely agree! I also agree with what you mentioned about missing out on globals and dps just waiting, I do believe I addressed that in the video! It's not always going to be the best decision to just stop dps for a second to hit the anima point but it's really great in downtime!
Brother, great fucking video. This has been bugging the hell out of me! Do you think Blizz should just make the requirement for the proc to be 3 OR MORE cp? Or you think that would make Kyrian too Op?
Problem comes when your shadow dance is active, you cant really wait for the shadow techniques to proc because you are wasting the short duration....i just look at it as an addod bonus, at least for pvp
Yeah absolutely. I kind of cover this in the video if you watch the whole way through! :) This is focused around two situations really, your downtime between dances and Torghast when you have all of the ER powers!
Gotcha, yea I just grasped the basic concept. Pardon my ADD. More than likely this ability will get changed. It seems like a pretty horrible design to me as it stands.
If you are standing there energy capped waiting on that combo point you will be losing dmg lol. Truthfully just ignore the combo point until you naturally land on it via standard rotation or priority ability use. Even if you are targeting this combo point you cannot cast the covenant ability again until its off cd (45 secs) Torghast is the only area this could be remotely useful, and that's after you have the epic and rare buffs to the ability.
@@Palumor I rewatched the video, and the depth you are talking about is literally the intended use of your passive. I am not trying to hate or be dramatically negative. And I understand your need as a content creator to be active and relevant, producing regular videos and all, but at least for me this video and the "trick" that rouges must learn, as you describe it in the title, is nothing more than a video presentation of how our passive works, and how it can be used for the Kyrian covenant.
@@rob5158 But in short terms, you can technically called this a "trick" as it is not well known and its discovered by a small minority of players. Him, the content creator, included.
@@rob5158 There are many casual players just dive in and play the class without paying extra attention to all passive and/or active skills. They already have to spend time learning the rotation, on top of doing all the catch up quest-line, soul-ash grinding, world quest, renown level, farming materials, on top of real life responsibility. That is the reason short TH-cam content cater large groups of casual players. Those players also play alts to experiment new expansion play-style of each class with different specialization. Short, informative TH-cam content are popular for a number of reasons and learning a thing or two without time consuming learning / analysis is one. If you want to ask for statistics of all players who has chosen to specialize in Subtlety whether they are familiar with your concept of common knowledge of playing Sub Rogue then I do not have the official statistic. But this video receive good feedback demonstrates a point.

Honestly, I don't blame them. If you compare the way abilities come into your book nowadays in retail compared to back in Classic, it definitely explains why things slip past. Not needing to go to a trainer and actually read what you're spending gold to acquire let's you kind of just grab things and take them for granted! For myself specifically, I haven't mained rogue since Cata and just came back now in Shadowlands so I figured out relatively fast!

Basically you still have line of sight to use your skills but it won't autoattack and you won't get pushed 1cp, that way you can quickly alocate backstabs or shadowstrikes without worrying about the Shadow Techniques.
Very smart stuff. Pikaboo level ;)
@@Palumor Indeed learned from him! :D
Do you think when Bonesmith Heirmir is available the Necrolord convenant would be a better option? I see more dps potential then Pelagos, but I may miss something...
Any thoughts about this guys?
My thought day 1 was that renown 30 would be the time for Necro to shine, the Fleshcraft immunity sounded so OP.
Hol'up its ONLY at the animapoint? NOT above either?
Lol yes, it is only if you land ON the point!
So what's better for pvp: a faster off-hand to proc quicker combo points or a slower off-hand with better stats ? Knowing that echoing reprimand has quite a long cd I'd still go for the better stats, right?
(just saw your video on slower off-hands that's why)
usually when you go for this you should always cosnider having slice and dice on, to get that 1 point faster when you dont want to risk using a backstab or whatever and go overboard with your combo. Btw isn't Engineering and Mining better than herbalism and mining I dont understand the logic
Sure. :) Also either or works. I don't know the logic on thinking one gatherer is superior to the other.
@@Palumor right on man thanks!!
1:00 2-4 combo points it will never be 1 or 5
Noticed that in hindsight, good point haha.
Came here to point that out lol. Nice attention to detail!

It's an AddOn called NugComboBar!

Thanks for tips, btw cant find setting where i can make set my combo point to show under my portrait, got it on my target and it didnt show the needed anima combo point to spend...
I am not sure, I believe that is the default UI. I use a secondary AddOn called NugComboBar though for mine!
i really liked your kyrian rogue guide and was curious if you could do one for ret palla
Maybe way down the road, but ret isn't really one of my main picks! Sorry :(
This helps only in thorgast if u get that thing that reset echoing if u hit right so u can spam it.. U have 45 sec otherwise theres no need to rush it
You're right! That's the main reason I made this! It's also good for those downtime windows though between shadowdances!
You’re awesome bro. Keep them coming
At 1:12, when you displayed the ability, perhaps it should be noted that it happened to land on the amount of combo points you coincidentally had. It would also be nice to note that only DAMAGING finishing moves benefit from the effect.
This is super nitpicky but if people are to watch this in order to learn how to beat rogues, meticulous caveats like these help:D
I was about to write ''For instance, the passive Shadow Techiques (an autoattack proc that gives you a combo point and 8 energy) is something to keep in mind with the Animacharge as well'' when I realised that this is what the video is about.
Thanks a lot:DDD
Sorry for the wall of text and sorry if some of the ability/powerup names/titles are off/wrong.
Its actually nice mini gambling game bc its totally random (and shuriken can crit too )
Yeah it makes downtime between dances fun lol!
Loving the videos mate, great content and very helpful! Waiting to land on the anima point from auto attacks really makes it a bit less boring when energy starved too; really makes you feel like you’re still in the heat of it all despite not pressing any abilities

You can talk to the guys in Oribos and swap over! Or you have to wait to 60 if you have no covenant!
Hey, what do you think about Mark of The Assassin as a legendary memory for sub in pvp? What is the bis memory for subs?
Sub gonna get murdered by blizz before S1, don't even consider crafting a leg
@@Palumor Aight, thanks for the insight

Hahahah the intro. Love the style of humor you have. Also, thanks for the content duh.
Thanks for supporting! I’m glad you enjoy :)
Is there any real use for Shuriken Toss? Or should it be kept in the book? xD
Sorry I’m often asking random questions on your old videos like a mad man
It's good for ranged CP builder/keeping ppl in combat/applying poison.
I don't think just waiting is efficient at all. I would only use this in your down time or Torghast when you have all ER powerups.
But if you don't wait at all you have a chance to finish eviscerate on 3cp :) imo its usable in pve, generally in pvp you don't have time to wait at all, especially during dance, and if you r not in dance - its better to run and don't get dmg
If I had saw this yesterday lol. Great guide I subbed, look forward to more great content.
Haha it's okay! Thanks for the comment. :)
My preferences are as follows -
Any PvP scenario - Premeditation
Mythic+ - Premeditation
Single Target bossfight - Weaponmaster
Hope that answers for you.
@@borges3099 I always thought Premed was the best for PvP! I figured it guarantees free combo points or that SnD is up during every Sdance!
Reliable DPS > Rng in PvP
@@Palumor yeah those are my thoughts as well. As long as it applies after using shadowstrike in shadowdance (forgot if it does off top of my head) I think the combo points are atleast worth it. Thanks for the tips
Great video man! I was just wondering would shuriken toss be a good option for that 1 combo point?
Yes absolutely! I like to use shiv as well!
I do it the same way the difficult kicks when your anima point is on the 4. Doning no opener and open with autoattacks wont give you find weakness, so its wasted. Still, a cool but very weird talent and its hard to master
Yeah, doing no opener, I mean I would never actually do that. It was just to show the example of the video haha. Thanks for the comment though. :)

@@Palumor oh alright good to know!
I figured this out exactly how you did. I went from feeling confused how to land it precisely, to discovering the passive ability, to deciding that i'll just wait for my auto attacks to generate the combo point needed to consume the animacharge. glad to know I thought correctly.
Haha great minds think alike. Especially in Torghast with all the ER powers this playstyle is nuts!
That makes so much sense, especially since you have so long to use the point you can spend all your energy and allow some to pool as you wait for the auto-attack proc.
Hi, thanks for the videos you make. I play necrolord rogue, is that a big problem for pvp rogue? thanks for opinion :)
Np! I am glad I can help!
great explanation, and video!
Do I need to just switch to kyrian from night fae?
Both are great options for PvE! Don't stress over it. :) I go Kyrian because it feels much nicer in PvP and I think it's the best balance.
Its funny I saw this video because like you I learned in tourgast to use autos for points, but I would definitely waste burst time trying to land on a certain number which multiple times I think caused me to die lol
LOL right? I was hoping this would be relatable.
Is haste more impt for rogues bcos of secret technique?
Through DPS simulations haste actually isn't that great for rogues right now! We want Crit and Vers much more! :)
I’ve never had echoing reprimand choose the first or last combo point , it’s always 2nd 3rd or 4th combo point for me
That is true! I should've mentioned that!
Love the video man! Side note, what addon are you using to make your herb sparkle like that?!👀
I actually don't know! I think that's the blizzard default UI. It might be buried into one of my other addons but I never got that intentionally! Good luck :)
Was looking for something like this. Does the auto attack counter restart with every new target?
I’m not 100% sure, but I’d assume that it’s a mechanic locked onto the rogue itself.
So i lose at worst 2 autoattacks and no energy.
ofcourse its more buttons to press, but thats where the gains starts :D
what do you think of this?
have a great one buddy

@@Palumor with the torgast one i must agree, all you need is reprimend if u can hit the anima hrhe
This is a nice idea in theory, but if you are capping your energy while waiting this seems bad.
I totally agree, I cover this in the video talking about my worries with overthinking this concept!
Gotcha, yea I just grasped the basic concept. Pardon my ADD. More than likely this ability will get changed. It seems like a pretty horrible design to me as it stands.
@@cgo6502 I agree again with you there lmao. Such a weird mechanic.
Great tip. Thanks for this!
Glad I can help!
If you are standing there energy capped waiting on that combo point you will be losing dmg lol. Truthfully just ignore the combo point until you naturally land on it via standard rotation or priority ability use. Even if you are targeting this combo point you cannot cast the covenant ability again until its off cd (45 secs)
Torghast is the only area this could be remotely useful, and that's after you have the epic and rare buffs to the ability.
It’s also really valuable during downtime on your dps in between dances. Make sure you watch the full video as I explained this already!
So your trick is to make use of an intended game mechanic, that the developers themselves intended to be used that way with that certain covenant?
I'm sorry you can't take more out of the video that that. It's got a bit more depth in terms of how it will play into your playstyle.
@@kocho5612 How can this not be well known? Is there any Sub Rouge that actually never knew why he sometimes gets extra combo points?
But this video receive good feedback demonstrates a point.
you need to make a vid on the 3 torghast buffs working together. I see a lot of people struggling with layer 3 while I literally just went in there and spamming echoing reprimand and killed the boss in 30 seconds
