So.. you are recommending, and can you confirm, that the ID-Omatic will plug in and work with the RT97S and MXR10, right out of the box, like this unit does? Because that is what this does, and that is why people are interested in buying it.

I bet there’s a way to open that repeater box up and install that internally that would be a good episode for you to do however, it may be too radio dorky.
This sounds like a perfect addition to my RT97S repeater. I use my RT97S with a speaker/mic plugged into the 9-pin connector. Can I use a 9-pin Y cable to connect this device and the speaker/mic at the same time? Is there any plan to add another connector the repeater-id to allow connecting a speaker/mic? The cost of the repeater-ID along with the power adaptor seems very reasonable to me.
No. "CW" is Morse-Code. This plays a recorded voice message, as shown in the video.. Although i suppose you could record a morse-code ID and play that.
I'm going to start a petition for the FCC overlords to make the 5 MURS channels also for GMRS. Think about it. You'd get better repeater range with VHF and you could even mix it up, and then GMRS users could have better use of dual band radios! Treat MURS like FRS. Current MURS unlicensed use would stay the same and if you're GMRS you get to use 50 watts on both VHF and UHF. And attack!
I think it is correct to say that this device is not compatible with the older RT97 units that do not have a serial port, so make sure which unit you have.
As mentioned, multiple times in the video, in the title, in the description and in the thumbnail, it is compatible with the RT97S model. The older model is not a RT97S.
So then does the State of Texas and police departments and sheriff departments have to make their repeaters do it as well because I know for a fact they do not
I have a question about this device. I understand it'll ID every 10 or 15 mins and at a regular interval or when traffic on the frequency begins, depending on internal switch settings. If you have it set to ID after activity, does it repeat the ID 10-15mins after that, or only once? Hope i relayed my question ok
Nothing vague about it if yer IQ takes more than one hand to count. If you run a private, closed, family repeater where the repeater and all users are covered by the one licence it needs no auto ID. If you run any repeater that more than one licence user transmits on it needs to auto ID every 15 minutes during operation. It is really annoying that these cheaper repeaters don't charge just a bit more and include an automatic ID function to make this simpler for everyone. The only way the FCC could make it simpler is if they just required everyone to auto ID. But someone up there at a desk figures hey if everyone on a private repeater is already IDing with the same call sign as the repeater would be using it would just be noise. However a public repeater where you hear 2 or more call signs you have no immediate way to know which call sign owns the repeater unless the repeater itself identifies. They wrote the rules in legalese cause everything the government does is in legalese. As a grown up you need to learn how to parse legalese on some level or get comfortable paying a professional to do it for you, there's a lot of it in life.
My county only had 3 sites out of 13 that transmitted it's morse code ID. This was incredibly annoying, and I contacted my county to ask them if they could turn off the other 3 sites ID. The county, as you can guess, they went to all 13 and made them all hit the morse ID every time they ended their transmission and every 60 seconds all day and night. So, I suggest that if you notice something not working on a county or city system, for God sake, Do Not contact them. It will get worse, not better
But repeaters are not required to ID. A GMRS repeater itself does not have a callsign. The regs clearly say no IDing is necessary if in accordance with (C) (1) and (2). AND, thus is yet another contradictory section of the rules that has not been proof-read or updated since written. As I explain above, repeaters themselves may be “stations” by definition, however they are not licensed nor do they have an assigned callsign. You couldn’t get one if you tried. If my repeater trustee permits me to use his repeater, and I provide my ID at the required intervals while using it, I am in compliance with the regs. And so by default, also is the repeater owner/trustee. To prove my point, let’s reverse-engineer the English of (C) (1) and (2)… A repeater WOULD be required to ID if the transmissions being rebroadcast through it were not authorized by the repeater owner, or (the rule is an and, not an and/or so both conditions must be met) the person transmitting through the repeater failed to ID. So if I didn’t give you permission to use my repeater but you did so, my repeater would be required to ID. But again, repeaters DO NOT have an associated callsign so they can’t. And there is no requirement for me to broadcast MY callsign when some other user talks thru my repeater. They are required to use theirs. This rule creates the requirement for IDing if you are not in compliance with standards that can’t actually be met. You can’t do what you can’t do. This device is not necessary. Is there anything wrong with an IDer on a repeater you own or maintain? No. It’s just not a requirement. Nor is fear of your dog’s nocturnal demise. Makes for good Troll-Fodder tho…
@@TheNotaRubicon it’s all good. My repeaters do ID b/c it’s good practice. I just love pointing out the contradictions in the regs. By definition, most gmrs radios sold are “illegal” if the rules are to be interpreted literally (prohibition against ability to manipulate frequencies, etc, paraphrasing ). It’s also not illegal to link repeaters, unless doing so through a public telco exchange (which I’ll bet no one does). but yet there is current weirdness going on with that and I wonder what’s really “up” with the one you’ve brought us. I am GLAD you’re on that story and hope you’ll uncover more. The FCCs is a leader of dysfunctions in a dysfunctional system. Keep up the good work sir!

you can't "program" anything on it, however you can make an audio recording of your morse-code identifier and use it.
