Billy has decades left to catch up to the legends. He is one of the best from the new school. I hope he doesn't burn out or fall for the trappings of fame and fortune. I only wish his tickets weren't so expensive... He is very humble and an undeniable talent. Comparing artists instead of appreciation really misses the point. Music is not a boxing match, it's a celebration of humanity.
This brought back so many memories of my father and uncles sitting around and strumming. No distractions like we are all so bombarded with today. Much, much simpler time then.
Thank you Google for reminding me how much I love Bluegrass music. I've spent several hours going through clips and listening. I'm from near Shelby, NC and grew up with this music. Thank you!
I love this. Docs so cute ❤ in Boone right now visiting relatives and can't help but to picture him playing downtown before he got super famous. RIP Doc, Merle, and Rosa Lee ❤
I love getting to hear their discussion, gorgeous video capturing some lovely musicians, thank God for them. Didnt know about Bobby until today. So many memories of clogging on a team called Scenic Land Cloggers with my stepfather who passed too young Oct 2023. Wish they could stay with quality of life but I love them nonetheless, even Bobby who I didnt know, but this captures a time, an era of life for me and an era of Bluegrass. ❤
I had the pleasure to play with Doc Watson one time at a little impromptu Jamboree in Owensboro Kentucky. Some of the best Pickers in the world would meet down there every October on the banks of the Ohio, with a burgoo Festival in the background❤
Sweet!!! Woo Hoo! Am going to begin banjo lessons from a friend. This song will be the he teaches me. I have to make granny proud, she played as easy as breathing!
Thank You David. This is a true gems and two of the bluegrass ForeFathers! I enjoyed seeing ihem both pick and especially in their earlier years. You got some true Classics in your videos; again Thank you~~~PEACE LOVE LIGHT~~~Da KID
I love when Doc says he doesn't think his son Randy can handle the breaks, because a few years later in a 1978 concert that has Doc playing on stage with his son, weeee doggie, he taught that boy well! I was fortunate enough to have this gem show up in my recommendations today. 34 minutes of Doc Watson bliss: th-cam.com/video/-4SAkCv6ri4/w-d-xo.html
There are lots of arguments about who was the best guitarist ever. But there has never been any debate about who was the greatest banjo player. Earl Scruggs stands alone.
Playing too fast. Showing off how fast they can go rather than showing how interesting the tune is. Notice the great tension in the guitarist's face towards the end.
Here is the complete film with so many musical icons - th-cam.com/video/OlneqC0mVsk/w-d-xo.html
"I can play guitar breaks." That was the understatement of the year.
And of course Earl was an outstanding guitar picker himself.
Hahahah! I had the exact thought!
Ah yes!👍
God bless Doc....
When you good you know it lol.
When Earl Scruggs leans in an admires your guitar playing you know you're good.
I wish he could see billy strings play
@@Treeguygarrett Doc was better.
@@gskessingerable They’re both great talents. I choose not to waste my time comparing two generational talents
@@gskessingerable doc watson and merle travis are the greatest of all time but it doesn’t mean they wouldn’t love to hear billy carry on the torch

You can see ol' Earl leaning in to appreciate Doc's amazing guitar runs.
What a treat to see these legends jamming together.
Doc couldn't see, but in his heart and soul he saw more than most people...
Wow, Doc has no trouble picking that double time. Amazing player and singer.
The beauty is in the conversation they had without exchanging any words.
that guitar playing was unreal
Earl Scruggs set out to find the best guitar players in the world with these videos and I think he just found him.
Yep, all you can do is watch in amazement
That little grin on Earls face purdy much says it getting good
Raised on this and still love it, thank you Otis Chutes.

David Hoffman - filmmaker
Google? Yes, but thank David Hoffman for filming this! 😅

I know just what you are saying. the two of them forever changed me as well.

About 40 seconds in , his focus changes. It’s amazing
Legends for good reason!

No such world exists.

All of your videos are fantastic but this is the best in my eyes, it’s absolutely brilliant !
an all time favorite of mine.
Thank you for this!
You know someone can play when Earl Scruggs is leaning over and concentrating on every note
Max Weidenbach You noticed that too!
Lol

Absolute legends.

Pure gold
Fabulous music. Noble and exciting. Not part of my cultural background, but by God, I wish it were.
What a Blast! Thank you.
Love this!
Good stuff.
Doc Watsons blues influence is always prevalent in his sound.
Oh this is what they play on Heehaw during the Joke segments!
Hello 👋, How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm mark Owen and am from San Diego,California , where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Beautiful that ending was perfect ❤❤

This is the tune that Roy Clark and Buck Owens play during "Pickin' and Grinin" on the show Hee Haw.

Randy is earls son
Best technique ever
Thanks David!!!!
How I just found out Doc was blind? I don’t know, but it doesn’t really change the fact that his skill is unmatched.
Sons of the North Carolina Mountains
Greatest pickers ever
I love how each of their feet are syncopated with eachother lol
The setting is literally bluegrass. The hills, sitting around just playing.
I like how Doc said screw this speed and sped things up lol 😂
FIRE!!!
Look at the foots. All in 4 4
A group of musicians that all know the song
You need to own the album Strictly Instumental by Doc, Flatt and Scruggs.
Ride’r till the wheels fall off!
Ah yes early 20th Century punk folk!
There are lots of arguments about who was the best guitarist ever. But there has never been any debate about who was the greatest banjo player. Earl Scruggs stands alone.
Banjo is about twice as loud as three guitars.
Earl had what's called a " pre-war flat head" Gibson. They are majestic
DOC WATSON, WHO I MET, EARL SCRUGGS, WHO I LISTENED TO EVERY NITE ON RADIO
My whole life ive wanted to play that but im just not good enough lol
Huh, didn't realize there were lyrics for this song. Is there a recording somewhere with the full lyrics?
You can type in Tracy Newman she does a decent version.
👌🏿
When people could play real music & had class.
Wish I knew where they played, sure looks like it could be near Deep Gap....
It was at Doc's home in Deep Gap.
David Hoffman - filmmaker
@@DavidHoffmanFilmmaker thank you. I've ridden my motorcycle through Deep Gap numerous times. Always used to "wonder if Doc's Home?" :-)
I think Doc forgets the words, so Earl comes in and then he just ends the tune.
The only bad thing about this video is that it didn't last for an hour.😁
I completely agree. Stupid me at a young age, I throughout the outtakes. I can't believe that I did that but it's the truth.

Hes blind! Everytime i need motivation i watch this.
Wish I could see Doc's left hand...
It's all about the picking hand, that's where his mastery is demonstrated
What style of music is this?
It's called Bluegrass, kind of old school Country
Yee haw bitches🤘🤘
is the one guy blind
But dad we are home lol
Doc Watson is my third cousin
Just a pick. Accurately picking quickly
Kevin Spacey on the banjo!
So this is basically a reworked version of Old Dan Tucker…..
Playing too fast. Showing off how fast they can go rather than showing how interesting the tune is. Notice the great tension in the guitarist's face towards the end.
I believe he played as fast as his heart desired. This should be enougj
These are all professional musicians hanging out and jamming. Just having fun
