Totally agree. Talk to solicitor it won't cost a lot for advice. The marina should have kept you informed of additional costs. You need to protect your home it's your greatest asset. PaulB.
I'm a liveaboard and have done so for over 14yrs and the one thing I've learnt is boat stands for bring out another thousand! I hope you can find a way to get around your predicament,
Thank you for your comment, unfortunately we have put our boat up for sale now, and will not be living on the boat in the near future has my husband has been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and given 2 years to live, that was 3 months ago so he can not mange to get on and off the boat anymore so she's gone up for sale all the best to you happy travelling..x
DO NOT hand anymore money over, please seek legal advice, or contact trading stndards. Any work carried out there should be a written quote. If they have done work that you were not aware of they legally cannot charge you. Do not feel bad or obligated to this marina they should be ashamed of themselves and word travels fast in Norfolk between boat owners,do not feel bad they are making you give up your dream!! They have probably overcharged you on everything else, because if they know you sold your house and had money to do the boat up they will add ALOT of extras on. Trading standards will also investigate how much you have paid for everything. Please do not pay and get your boat out of there
Did you get a written quotation for the latest work? Knowing your situation as you had explained to the Marina , then when there were added extras they should have let you know and get your approval before carrying out the work. I do feel for you. Boats are inheritantly expensive to maintain.
Hi yes we did have a survey, we purchased this boat over 2 years ago, and where the boat has had work done on it and where it's been sitting in the water and over the 2 years what with having 2 dogs and the weather rain there is a little like hole where the stern steps are, so when it rains and with the hair from the dogs a leaf's and muck that congregates there it fills up with water So may be that's why the beams rotted, also the water tank had some holes in it so that would of contributed to them rotting, we have now or having a stern cover so now when it rain we will not get that problem with all the muck and rain going in to that little hole, thank you for your comment.💞
We are so very sorry to hear this - our hearts break for you both! You should never give up on your dreams, especially after all of your hard work and planning; have you got anything to lose from starting a gofundme page? We wish you all the very best.
O' thank you for your words, No we have nothing to lose, but we wouldn't know where to start we have seen many people with go fund me page but we are unsure. 💓
hi guys do not settle any invoices until you've had a break down of incurred costs and extras, a break down of hours and days and labour charges do a bit of research on materials and lay it in front of them if you have found items cheaper, do not just pay without an explanation, dont give up your dream your a lovely couple, I feel for you and I'm sure the boat yard is not having you over but they must produce a breakdown on that sort of amount, and try and create a guesstimate on how long things should take by asking other trades eg electricians etc, do do do a go fund me page and Il be the first to donate xx
Hi Stuart, we will do our best to sort our predicament out, we will try not to give up, and your suggestion of a GoFundMe page yes that is an option someone else said about that, and what have we to lose By doing one, we have set one up but we was very unsure as to do one has we feel that we shouldn't, there are many other's that have one set up or a BUY ME A COFFEE and they all seem to do well with them, thank you for your kind words and hopefully there will be a light at the end of the tunnel.💗
Sadly these people are taking advantage of you do NOT pay any money other than the agreed sum you had initially been quoted as any work done without your consent is not payable by you please please stand strong with these money hungry thieves
Hi Karen and Dave just watched your video, God my heart breaks for you, everything you've put into the boat, if I was a rich woman I would help you out but unfortunately I'm like most other people just trying to get by, if in the meantime I win the lottery you will be first in line, because I would love to see you both living on this boat as it has always been a dream of mine also, keep your chin up, please don't let it get you down, you know we are all thinking of you, xxx
O bless you Suzanne, you have touched our hearts if we won the lottery there are many people in line we would help out too, thank you for your kind thoughts lots of love Peter & Karen Max & Mia 💞💞
It wasn't for the whole boat we had already paid £22,000 and then another £21,000 and £20,000 odd when we purchased the boat, it was for 5 floor bearers and a water tank which we thought it was for £4000, but it wasn't there was other item's added that's how it came to £20,000 did you not hear the voice over properly?. lol
@@ournewlifeaboardona.w.o.la8802 Sorry to hear this, If you had a written quote for 4K to do the bearers and the tank then any excess costs should have been, at the very least, discussed with you for approval before proceeding with the work. I don't doubt that Cox's work is excellent and looking at your videos. and your testimonials to them confirms this. That said, if the quote was 'do the bearers and install a replacement water tank for £4k then any extras should have been flagged and anything outside of your (and Cox's) contractual obligation should have been agreed upon before doing extra work. If the initial works were agreed verbally then I don't know where that leaves you. Citizens Advice may be a good first port of call. I hope this can be resolved for you amicably. Do you have any contact from the boatyard detailing why the costs became so high or did you only find that costs had escalated when you got the invoice ?
I'm a liveaboard on the broads and have felt with Eric found him to be very honest and not the sort to muck someone over I only had my BSS done there but he still lifted my boat for a quick check and clear my prop for free Unfortunately boats are expensive parts and materials are expensive running the yard is expensive and good blokes don't come cheap as much as it might feel like it at times they're not raking it in the margins the yards operate at arnt great....there's a reason there's no longer any hire fleets on the southern broads left
Yes we find him very honest too, it's just that things go wrong and have to be fixed but didn't expect a bill to be doubled, we recommended the marina in our video's and they have helped us, so what is wrong with that?
@@ournewlifeaboardona.w.o.la8802 nothing is wrong I'm not critasizing at all just commenting And of corse having a bill double like that can be very frustrating
@@NORFOLKBROADSNEWSCHANNEL This is for the marina and Jeckels combined and bits and pieces that we have bought for the boat, this is our life long dream for 41 years we have been wanting to do this, we don't really need someone nit picking, to add to our worries, all this is true why would we liar about this it's all in the videos the work we have had done, not all of it the majority of it and I did say around £100,000 and yes we could of purchased a new boat but it would have been a considerably a lot more, we wanted this one so please watch the video's before you comment thank you.
It doesn’t seem to ring true if the work you had asked for to be done and advised would be 4K why are you asking for 20k and not 16k as you new you would have to pay 4K ????
I have looked at all your videos and you clearly say you were expecting a bill for around4k for your last work completed and when it came it was around 20k you should have paid the 4K you were expecting leaving a ballpark of £16k that is what you should be asking for on go fund me now you are saying you also need to pay for your license etc as well the only advice I can give you is when you go into boating make sure you have a clear understanding as to the general costs of owning and running/ maintaining a boat and when you have work carried out get a full quote in writing. I aggree. They can't do extra work without getting approval. I would contact a solicitor.
