I have no issue with the whole relic thing, if you want that kind of aesthetic go for it. It's not like it is something new either, violin makers started this trend over 200 years ago already (Vuillaume et al).

@@danejames7098 Yeah I don't see the point in relicking guitars. Time and wear will relic a guitar over the years and it will be genuine. I don't see people intentionally denting and scratching their car bodywork to get a relicked look lol. My old car has plenty of authentic relic lol. Nobody would ever bother to steal it or key it up.

So, here’s the thing. A lot of us guitar players have lots of cheaper guitars, that we accumulated over the years, and thinking that something like this is outside of our price range. I don’t own one of these, but I own an equivalent telecaster since buying it, I’ve sold Guitars that will worth at least as much, if not more than the custom shop Tele because I just will not play them any more. Most of us probably accumulate gear buying things we can afford, and before we know, we probably have a few pretty good guitars that are worth more than a fender custom shop. Don’t be scared to bite the bullet and sell 3, 4, 5 or even 10 guitars to own one of these.

Sadly I used to own a pre CBS slab rosewood strat from the early sixties. It was white with a faded pickguard, and I was silly enough to trade it in forNZ$230 for a Les Paul custom that was half refinished bidy and in pieces in a box. After replacing the tailpiece and resaddling the bridge with metal pieces from the original vinyl or plastic saddles, refinishing the body and neck in a red-brown stain, replating the pickup covers etc in gold, I plugged it in and found ut to be dark and dull sounding, so git rid of that too. This was in the early 70's, and I was so ignirant I didn't even 0:00 0:00 know guitars could be set up and adjusted fir easy playability so I let go a decent strat without a second thought. The mania for vintage instruments had not started then and I thought I could always get another... four strats later I've finslly git a good sounding one bought second hand with white EMG's on it. I didn't consider keeping them so bought the guitar without even plugging it in because it felt and sounded so hood acoustically. Thirty year's later, and I still haven't replaced the pickups, and can't even affird to get it refretted, but I'm not going to be silly again and sell it(it is a late eighties 57 reissue. Thise if us into strats are always s fool fir a good plank, and we have to watch our pennies though!

To me relic is a brilliant marketing move by Fender. They can charge 5 - 6 times or more for a deliberately damaged guitar and the vintage / old Fender cult faithful will gladly pay it.
As for the pickups - nice Jimi tones, I think the reason why most modern Strat pickups don't sound the same is the preference among players for overwound "high output" pickups. The higher the wind count, the less clear and snappy the sound becomes. Jimi and everyone else at that time used the standard issue lower output ones.

Compared to my poor man's Jet js400; yes, the sound difference is certainly worth the €4500,- extra cash. (Maybe a thousand less after some relicking). Jokes aside...it's a nice guitar man.

Nice sounding guitar. Personally I’m not into relic guitars. I’d rather be the the one to relic it on lots of gigs. Genuine marks and scratches

I'd love to own one of those, they look, and sound amazing. The only thing wrong with it, is it's the wrong way round!

Clearly enjoying this guitar, Shane. It seems to tick all the boxes when searching for - and finding - desirable tones. Nice one!😉😎

Goddamn... That neck sounds like a mixed album.

I love the sound of a Fender. The spank twangy sound you can only get from a strat or telecaster. As brilliant as Leo Fender was I wonder if even he knew what he was on to.

From the pattern of fender guitars taking a long time to find their audience, he definitely didn't. Guitars like the jazzmaster and jaguar were made to compete with Jazz archtops and flopped on release until 20 years or so passed and they were cheap used guitars. Later artists got famous with them and they became desirable classics. The strat quack tones were not supposed to part of the original strat either without fiddling with the 3 way selector. They didn't even add a 5 way switch until 1977.

I don't think i would like artificially relic'd guitars but if it was 'naturally relic'd' by usage over the years I'd probably like it.. It does sound beautiful though..

Those guitars are built for one group of people in particular and those people are usually called ‘suckers. Many custom builders out here who will build you that same guitar for a fraction of that price and build it exactly to your specs.

I don't think the price is justified. I don't think it's over priced for what goes into it, just not good value for me.
I owned a Fender Custom shop 63 Stratocaster. Beautiful looking, felt amazing and you could feel the extra love put into it. But for me the reliced neck was not realistic and it really didn't sound significantly better than my Vintera strat at the time. It was a holy grail guitar for me but when I got there I was underwhelmed. Sold it,lost $2000 on the original price I paid for it. Lesson learnt.
I think your better going for the vintage inspired runs that come out or Traditional MIJ.

    Wonderful tones buddy.
NOT into artificial "relicing" and I certainly wouldn't pay for it, (but each to their own)
I do have a very beaten up Strat, but it has mileage on it like me..!!!
I will however look at getting myself a set of those puppies for a build I'm planning to do.

OK you have a great guitar that sounds fantastic. Why in the world would I pay somebody an additional two or $3000 for F-ing it up. I just purchased a Les Paul modern that had some finish checking around the pick up selector, barely noticeable. That got me a discount of almost $600. That's my kind of relic-ing..

Wow I like your rig set up its like the perfect foot pedals that anyone would want for the job at hand and the 4 to 8 k Fender strat is so great sounding guitar I love that neck i had a 80s USA Strat in a regular sunburst with all three Texas specials and a Buddy Guy polka dot both types mex amd USA made and one had Emgs and the other with the lace sensors hot reds but when you are young you don't know what you jave untill someone talks you out of it

Buying a relic guitar is like buying a blue check mark on Twitter. Lol. Sounds great tho.
