For those interested, the 'brightness' of food indicates how fresh it is: Eventually food/consumables get darker & darker until they rot away to nothing, so eat/use the dullest stuff first! Damage calculations are a bit unconventional, but kinda make sense once you become used to them: they encourage you to stay in the best of health as you progress.. so food/satiety calculations when cooking/eating are fairly important. IMO it's a nice little system, if unlike most other systems I've ever come across
Whenever there is a game that lets you move in the 8 directions instead of 4, I always try to set the numpad for it. It's super easy compared to the other possible keybindings for 8 direction movement.
Same, but strangely the numpad doesn't work in this game, with or without Numlock. However, you can press Up+Left or W+D at the same and that move diagonally. A bit of an odd choice. Or maybe it's a bug: it just triggers move up and right at the same time.

It’s awkward, but the more I played the more I got used to using just WASD and hitting two keys for diagonal.
