      Yes Gorillas are gentle giants and you have to remember that they are wild. You are taught what to do and how to act around them in order to remain safe. I shared some of the instructions on the video. Once you follow the instructions then you get to enjoy the very rare experience. Thanks for watching Eugene.

    I have watched tons of videos about gorilla trekking in Rwanda and I feel that yours has given me the best "feel" of the experience. I am visiting later this month and have wondered about the actual terrain through which I will be walking. Thank you for a realistic impression. I hope I have the stamina!

      Thank you very much Karen for watching and for your awesome comment! I am glad my video has been helpful in giving you a good idea on what to expect during your trek. Obviously, the weather and the actual positioning of the family that you will be assigned to, will ultimately determine the level of difficulty and length of time it takes for you to reach the Gorillas. So I pray you will get both good weather and a shorter trek to the gentle giants. Wishing you an awesome experience!

      Yes they are. So long as you respect their space, then they will let you come close. It was awesome being that close to them.

    Great video. Very informative. I'm considering this next summer. How long and how strenous is the hike to get up to where the gorillas are on the mountain?

    • @thewill-k-way
      @thewill-k-way  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Julius, thanks for watching the video and for your comment.
      In regards to your question, the hike will vary depending on the following; which gorilla family you are allocated and where they will be located that morning and also if it will be raining or not. They keep moving around and at times like for our case, they were not too high up and we found them very early despite starting out much later than the other groups it can even take a whole day of hiking until you find them.
      Despite us finding them early, for someone unfit like me, going up was a bit strenuous but the good thing is that the guides go at the pace of the slowest member of the group and since I was their only guest it worked out perfectly.

    I was very surprised to hear, and saddened to learn from your video that the Eastern Mountain gorilla numbers around only one thousand. How did the number of these beautiful animals decrease so much?

    • @thewill-k-way
      @thewill-k-way  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Scott, so there are several factors that led to their decrease and actually, the figure of slightly higher than 1000, is an increase from an initial figure of around 200. The growth is as a result of conservation efforts started by the Late Dian Fossey back in the 80s. The numbers had reached such low levels mostly due to poaching and human wildlife conflict, as communities around the mountain where they live, kept encroaching on their habitat as they looked for more farm land. Thanks for watching and for your comment.

      You are welcome, Scott. Hope you will plan a trip to see them soon. Tourism is one of the main ways that supports the conservation efforts.
