- BYU and Santa Clara women's soccer went to a penalty shootout after a scoreless regulation and two scoreless overtime periods in the semifinal of the 2021 Women's College Cup. Ultimately, BYU came out ahead to clinch their first-ever championship appearance. Watch the full penalty shootout here.

Great match. Both teams had chances in regulation and extra time but couldn't convert. I thought BYU was dead in the water after that second penalty miss, but they pulled it out. I'm looking forward to the final against Florida State.

@@lospollos6208 I played soccer through grade school, high school & college in the 60's & 70"s and I never would have thought women could display the skill sets that I have seen over the last 10 to 15 years. I guess that sounds chauvinistic but I have been very impressed. I am just a soccer fan and enjoy a game with good passing and some goal scoring.

Great match. Santa Clara is so tough defensively. But BYU deserved this one - they had several more shots and close calls that were off the cross bar or posts that were unlucky. How ironic that Santa Clara lost on a ball off the post. That's soccer! Sad to see either of these teams lose as I believe they are the top two NCAA teams. Hope that BYU beats Florida State for the national championship! What a great season!
Really? The Top 2? FSU has been #1 most of the season and played a much better schedule than BYU or SC.
@@rhertz3054 You could be right - we'll find out on Monday night. Florida State is certainly a great team so I meant no disrespect to them. Santa Clara won the national championship over Florida State last year in a close match and brought back most all of their players this year before losing to BYU. It should be a great match on Monday. The WCC is highly underrated. Santa Clara and BYU have proven themselves to be among the top teams in the nation over and over again, but so has Florida State. Hope it's a great match and the best team wins. Best wishes!
@@Kimmer There is a reason FSU has been to 8 of the last 11 college cups. They have been the most consistent team over the last decade. Sure, it was 4-2 in penalty kicks and maybe could have gone either way. SC was lucky to win last year but they did and so be it. If that FSU girl doesn't pass back to her own goal and just clear it with so little time left, FSU would have won in regulation last year instead of losing in PK shootout. You probably watched it and know that I am right. Glad FSU didn't have to play in front of 5,000 SC fans in the final. Still, FSU played a much better schedule and lost 1 game this year.
@@rhertz3054 I did watch the game tonight and Florida State is a terrific team. That is the first game I have seen them play. It was a hard fought game and both teams had good opportunities. Anything can happen with penalty kicks and it went down to the very last PK. It was an amazing game! Congrats to FSU. I actually would have felt bad for them if they had lost 2 national championships in a row on PKs. I'm disappointed my BYU Cougars didn't win, but they had a great season. Best wishes!

just out of curiosity, dosent NCAA Soccer follow the FIFA rule regarding the penalty kick? I see gollies moving before the kick.

They can move-- just not forward off the line. They can move sideways or vertically on the line.
where are the regulation time highlights?
PK’s are seriously one of the most stressful things ever. It’s so hard not to overthink it when you actually get up there.
Ha , I can't believe how this player's make it to college soccer. When in reality they don't even know how to play soccer.
This soccer player's?? Are far away from becoming good player's. Some of these "coaches" them self they have never play soccer.
This player's don't even know how to really kick a ball, they don't know how to do headers OR PENALTIES KICK.
( The kickers BYU, #8, #12./ SCU #7,#10,#16. HORRIBLE.the way they executed the prnalties.)

These coaches are far from really teach or train these player's.
But is also the player's RESPONSIBILITY TO WORK ON ALL DIFFERENT SKILLS. .! DOING PENALTIES KICKS, CORNER KICKS, FREE KICKS , ETC..ETC..IS SOMETHING THAT EACH PLAYER SHOULD ALSO WORK ON.!

Throughout the country is the same with all these player's. To be a truly soccer player. They would need to know everything I mean everything about soccer.
The sport of soccer , it's not only how fast a player can run with the ball or how hard the player can kick Nooo, this is beyond that.
Here in the USA. Most coaches recrute player for having only two skills.!

Coaches that know what they're doing. In Jr middle and high-schools. So they can developed young kids to become good perhaps profesional player's.

A truly full developed soccer player needs to know a list of skills.
1- techniques. Dribbling
2-headers
3-know how to received a ball with chest, tight.
4- control the ball not only on the ground but also in the air.
5- a player needs to have a vision, of the play and player's ...etc,etc..
THAT'S WHY IS CALLED THE 🌎 WORLD'S GREATEST SPORT..!

Every goalie in women's soccer leans incredibly early on PK's. Easiest way to win is just to watch where they lean and put it in the opposite side. Especially that second BYU pen is awful. Keeper doesn't even line up in the middle, shuffles over years early and gets the save. Players should just pick their heads up

BYU does not deserve to go any further than this match. The penalty misses, those players have no clue about soccer. The first BUY PK shooters, who recruited these clueless players?? Only BYU No 10 executed the way it is supposed to. You kick the ball 2 feet or less towards either post but low, very low.

@@MichaelMurphy-kj3xf I’m not sure there is a way to be objective about this since colleges don’t appear to share the ages of their athletes-based on a brief search of multiple rosters including BYU and Santa Clara-therefore you can’t do any sort of statistical comparison to see if BYU has an advantage or not. Therefore, any conversation about this is purely anecdotal.
