If you are a baby boomer you remember Danny Kaye, the only entertainer who remembered what a joy it is to be a child. He brought innocence, charm, and love to everyone and made one remember what a treasure it is to be alive, to be kind, gentle, thoughtful and as funny as you can be. I loved him very much and feel quite lucky to have been on the planet Earth at the same time he was.
An outstanding post. You said it so perfectly. I felt as a boy he would be the adult who made you laugh, who would laugh at your jokes, and felt you were important. He was a role model for kindness. I sure miss him.
I couldn't have said it better even to this day when I see one of his movies I know I can relax and know nothing in that movie would be insulting. Also I always saw him as very handsome.
Bull. An egotist. Horribly treated Red Skelton. Notorious for badly treating his own children. Used to like him. But found out what a jerk he was. No thanks.
I have read almost all of the comments from people who watched Danny as a child and were enthralled with his talents. Looking back, I know I was exposed to "The Court Jester" and a few other of his comedy routines, but it didn't move me at the time. Looking back I realize I felt numb, I could look at all he was doing and it just didn't touch or interest me at all. But I experienced trauma as a young child and life was very, very serious to me -- something you had to work hard to survive. I never even realized how that trauma affected me until I read all these comments and realized how I had been blinded to the joy when I was young. But looking at these clips now, I realize what I missed. Thank you, George Pollen.
As a child I adored Danny Kaye. Saw every movie he was in. When he came back to the London Palladium after his first success there, my parents took me to see him. I was about 5 years old and SO excited to see him in person. At some point in his show, he sat down on the edge of the stage - and asked if anyone had a cigarette. My parents heard he would do this, and before I knew it, they put a cigarette in my hand, set me down on the walkway to the stage - and told me to go there. I started out, very shyly....and Danny saw me and encouraged me to come to the stage. I did. Slowly. Anxiously. When I got there, he picked me up and sat me down beside him and took the cigarette. He said "Do you have a light?" I didn't. And started to cry. He then worked his magic with children and in seconds I was laughing hysterically at this wonderful man. From then on, I wanted to be on stage like my hero. I met him again a little more than a decade after that - when he was taping his shows at CBS studios in Los Angeles. I loved that man. When I told him I wanted to be in show business...he told me I could come to any rehearsal and taping of his show there...and if I was smart - I would look, listen and learn! And so I did.
I was blessed enough to share this planet with Danny Kaye, but never lucky enough to actually see him in person. He was a wonderful actor, singer, dancer, and human being. He was also one of a kind. RIP darling Danny!
Danny Kaye was a genius! I loved him so much! Red Skelton was my 2nd favorite! They do not have that Caliber of Comedians anymore! It's sad what our children and grandchildren are missing out on. These men gave me so much Joy in my life! Thankyou so much!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What an absolute joy to find this video. I loved Danny Kaye and have so many fun memories watching him as a young child. Incredibly talented all round entertainer, intelligent and a decent human being (by all accounts). Thank you for the upload.
He was a delightful man, one of my all-time favorite leading men. As a child growing up watching his movies....I'm glad I was exposed to such an amazing human being!!!
In 1965 I worked at TRW in Lawndale CA. Several of my co workers shared a car pool and rode on the Sam Diego Freeway to and from work, One day we saw a big red Cadillac convertible drive by us and the license plate on it was "KAYE", we saw Danny Kaye driving and we all shouted and waved, and he waved back. The traffic slowed and we coght up to his car and were thrilled to talk to him and shared our compliments about his films ---- a great experience !!!
Danny Kaye was one of the greats and I'm so grateful that I lived during a time while his star shone bright. Thank you Danny for the laughs, the music and most of all for your sharing your brilliance with the world. You made it a better place!!!!
Loved Danny Kaye. He made albums for children: as well as movies for general audiences. He was a child's dream. As I grew up, I found out he's catering to adults now. I was already sold. The absolute top in his field of entertainment.
oh my gosh! I love this biography- always did love DK- but , oh oh oh! here where it shows him doing the voice of tubby the tuba?!- well this was a life changer for me! My parents got me this album, as a child, and so as a result, in 6th grade- I started playing the tuba!! And, I still play it today- 50 years later. With the Oroville Community Concert Band. I still have my 50 year old Miraphone tuba. Oh--- this is truly a great post here- to see that it was Danny Kay who was the tuba voice- as I'd forgotten. Thank you!
I remember his last movie. There wasn't a second of comedy in it and he was totally riveting. He played a man whose worst nightmare had crossed the sea, came into his place of safety, and was preparing to march through his home. It goes to show that at the heart of every great comedian lies an even greater actor.
When I was a little kid I got separated from my mom in a crowd at the C.N.E. a kind man lifted this crying little kid, so I could see over the crowd to find my mom, when my mom ran up she was flabbergasted to see me in Danny Kaye's arms, we saw him perform that night, he was amazing, I became a true fan,
Your mother must have been speechlessly starstruck (not to mention relieved she'd found you)! Or maybe Mr. Kaye had a calming aura ... No, even if he did there was something magical about him-he was larger than life yet so down-to-earth, a beautiful soul and IMHO absolutely gorgeous, and undeniably elegant. Thank you for sharing your story. It made me tear up. Danny Kaye had already left this earth before I discovered his genius, but I try to expose all of my friends (and their children, if applicable) to it.
I was in love with Danny Kaye as a little girl in the 60s. I faithfully watched his variety TV show. I also loved the Beatles too. But Danny Kaye had a special place in my heart. He was definitely a renaissance man of the arts. Just a brilliant creative genius... I'm so glad TH-cam is preserving the historical talent of this man. Alas, seeing him here can only hint at the magnitude of this man's talent, but it's something.
Danny was extra ordinary and uniqe as an actor with his body language that really made people laugh .He kind of reminds of our todays american actor Jim carry in his way of performing .
As a Dane, I owe Danny Kaye special thanks. Most danes who have any notion of recent history does. He sang "Wonderfull, Wonderfull Copenhagen" and put us on the map, more than any of his kind had ever done. Danny Kaye. A man of the world.
There was a radio show that was supposed to dedicate an hour to him, it turned into 5 hours of people calling in and talking about him instead! That's how much he was loved! I miss him very much.
My mother introduced me to all his films. As a child, he was a friend who made me laugh, but he could do anything well! I think I loved him also, because he was always the underdog, much like the Ugly Duckling". He was always a swan to me!
Oh, the inspired madness of _The Inspector General_ and _The Court Jester_ ...two of my very favorites... and all the rest of his movies! He was a comic genius who could also be brilliant while playing a quite serious role. I loved and respected him from afar, but I always thought he was a bit like the sun: standing too close would have dazzled certainly, but maybe even have been enough to slightly injure lesser folk. His movies were what I craved, they never get old for me.
Thank you for putting this togetter Mr. Pollen. I'm following Danny Kaye through his films on Roku and through TH-cams such as yours. To think, he never finished high school! Through research I found he was not only a performer, but also an accomplished jet pilot, a baseball team owner and a chef. "Genius" is the word I think of with every piece of his life I encounter. His wacky physical comedic performances were forerunners to Robin Williams' and Jim Carrey's. But unlike the later two, his life didn't follow the same dark path. His brilliant wife and his connection to UNICEF I feel contributed this. I suppose too it was because he was a survivor. He overcame disappointments and setbacks that would cause folks of today to kill themselves over. I also wonder if he survived his setbacks because of his Jewish heritage; if he thought that his obstacles were small compared to the obstacles Jews in Nazi Germany had to overcome.
What a great performer! And he seemed like such a NICE guy! I'm so happy that his performances live on in these biographies and his movies and shows. Each future generation can get to know and love him!
A great entertainer with a clean act. Not like the vulgarity we deal with in today's spot light. Hollywood and comedy has changed a lot over the years. I'm glad his work and character can still be enjoyed on DVD.
Mr Kaye was and always will be sheer genius, as a younger man i was introduced to his talent and sheer joy that he gave me and the world. I still miss him soo very much.
I love him like a Grandparent. He filled our limitations, our imagination and our hearts growing up. As children we were enchanted with his physical comedy and songs. When I watched this, it all comes back and I feel it over. I too will pass him and his legacy on to my child. One of my all time favourites.Thank you Mr Kaye, may you be making sweet music and laughing up a storm.
To the person who put up all the stars of the past, a very big thank you for searching for all of them. It is very much appreciated. Because then we can remember them on their birthdays.
When I came to Canada from Israel, age 6, Hans Christian Anderson was the movie of the day and my parents (and I) fell in love with Danny. That love affair continues (even later with my younger sisters.
I cant express the love I have for him and his work. Many a Saturday and holidays I spent watching his films, Thanksgiving would not be the same without Danny Kaye and today I share his works with my children especially Hans CA and the songs the Ugly Little Duckling and Thumbelina. I often wonder what life would be like if people like Danny were around today. Danny you will always be in our hearts and memories.
True comedy, in my opinion, doesn't involve crude tasteless humor, or vulgar language. True comedy was found in the mind and talents of this amazing man, he was and i believe is the personification of true comic genius. Nobody could match the brilliance that was Danny Kaye.
I only knew Danny Kaye by watching his old movies. I love them all, but White Christmas is my all time favorite. We lost a great man and entertainer when he died.
+ Sherry Gorman That's my favorite too. When I watch it, I know I'm supposed to be swooning over Bing, but when Danny Kaye sings 'The Best Things Happen When You're Dancing" I am just lost to the world until the number is over. He was wonderful.
He was one of the most innately musical people I've ever seen, trained or untrained. Obviously he had perfect pitch, but his rhythmic sense was also perfect, and he always understood how the use the voice as an instrument, and how to move his body musically, too.
I grew u in the 60's & 70's watching him in the movies in tv reruns. He was awesome. I never realized he had such a background. I still keep an eye out for movies he starred in.
One of the best, I'm so lucky to have enjoyed - and - still enjoy, his talent. RIP, God keeps a special place for those who make their business making others laugh.
I am offended that they said he wasn't good looking! He was a very handsome man. Even on that episode of The Cosby Show that he was on, he was so adorable. Nothing ugly about him at all!
I ❤ Danny kaye . I read & have his biography Nobody's Fool. The Court Jester, On the Double, Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Hans Christian Anderson, White Christmas, are some of my favorites. He could dance, sing, act. He was multi talented, He do comedy, serious roles. He was one of a kind. He was often imitatied never duplicated.
in Mitty Danny is a riot as the Surgeon, the British ace flyer, the Louisiana gambler, and Anatole of Paris, who *wreaks vith chic". I'm going to watch Mitty now, with that inimitable Boris Johnson, eh, Karloff, ad Dr.Hugo Hollingshead... Hmm, one wonders what the secret life of Toady Pence would look like, with Steve Martin playing the lead...
When I was on my US Naval Academy summer cruise in 1972, our 2nd port of call was Copenhagen, Denmark. We got to see Danny Kaye at the “Rebuild” festival July 4th. He and Ronald Reagan, then Governor of California, were the featured celebrities at the Danish-American event. It goes without saying that Danny was the hit performer, most memorable was giving the press one minute of all his famous poses. Unforgettable! I consider him my hero of creativity, making children laugh and exhibiting some of the best traits of being AMERICAN.
Ann Burton Yes it is a loss, but unlike when you were growing up and me growing up they can watch documentaries like this and his movies at any time and place or just stumble upon them and be inspired by him.
I wish i could have met this man. He had talent in spades, the only actor i could listen to sing in a movie. Great actor great dancer great singer fantastic human being. Was very depressing when i heard he died.
As a bloke born in 1957, IF there was a choice of what to watch on telly on a Sat / Sun night in the sixties guess who was the star? Danny of coarse. As a kid I idolised him. No one could compare.
I loved Danny Kaye as a child, my mother took me to see his films and they bought the songs from Hans Christian Anderson on 78's! A great stack of them in a hard folder with each record in a paged sleeve like a book. I wish I could have met him, he was such an interesting, complex person who seemed to excel at everything he attempted. Thanks George.
@@robertmanning3922 I have the set of DK’s 78’s in a hard folder that were my mother’s. I haven’t looked at them in years and it has been decades since I had a player for 78’s. The set has Minnie the Moocher. I wish I could listen to then once more.
I loved him as Hans Christian Anderson! I had his album and played it daily in the 60s. I would sing along with him...when he sang..it warmed my heart...very fond memories for me
The Court Jester shows this man's true talent. "I've got it! The Chalets from the Palace has the pellet with the poison, the Flagon with the Dragon has the brew that is true."
We older people had such talented people in the entertainment industry in our lifetimes....they truly sparkled and brought us great moments...and lets' not forget the directors and producers. One great Danny Kaye routine was his almost impossible recitations of the Russian composers names. Wow!
I WAS A TEENAGER ABSOLUTLEY MAD ABOUT DANNY KAYE WHEN I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY ATTEND ONE OF HIS PERFORMANCES AT THE WONDERFUL LONDON PALLADIUM...I REMEMBER, THE BRITISH AUDIENCE WOULD NOT LET HIM LEAVE THE STAGE, HE WAS TRULY ADORED BY THE BRITS AND GAVE ENCORE ATER ENCORE...A GREAT SUCCESS , REALLY ADORED, AND WITH SUCH A CARESSING VOICE....... I SAW THE YOUNG FRANK SINATRA THERE ALSO....
So loved Danny Kaye we will never see talent like this again .This documentary is very interesting .Danny Kaye I miss you you still make me laugh so much .
I met Danny Kaye... when I was 10 and it was a birthday party when Danny and Artur (Arthur) Rubenstein were together for their birthdays are just 10 days apart. I was in the California Boys Choir and he did his funny conducting He was 65 and extremely funny conducting us. REALLY. Artur was in his 80's. Amazing and wonderful memories 🤗😏😏
Wow. What a privilege to have had that experience ... all that cultural brilliance and character in one room! Did you get to hear the Maestro play piano? Had you seen any of Danny Kaye's films? A lot of people don't know how sophisticated he was and that he loved to educate young people on classical music. I'm only 17 minutes into the documentary. Maybe they do address his contribution to other aspects of the arts (and charity and humanitarian work) later in life.
My 1st exposure to classical music was tubby the tuba. The other side of the album was Peter and the Wolf. I had the melody memorized at 4 yrs old. I went on to be a music major and played violin my whole life. I adored Danny in Hans Christian Andersen. Inch worm, thumbelina, ugly duckling were my favorites. I still love the memory of this magic man. He made music so exciting. Love his memory still!
To me, there were two entertainers that took their talents to an unsurpassed level - Danny Kaye and Victor Borge...sadly, it is unlikely that we will see the likes of them again.
What a privileged childhood we had in having been entertained by the genius of Danny Kaye, even if it was on the radio or TV.
I grew up watching Danny Kaye and he never failed to make me laugh and make me feel better I miss Danny Kaye.
An amazing entertainer such a blessing for all ages Hans Christian Anderson was one of my favourites . 5:42 ❤🎉 5:53
As a young girl, my Mum saw Danny Kaye at the London Palladium. She is now living with Alzheimer's, but her memory of that night is as bright as ever.

An outstanding post. You said it so perfectly. I felt as a boy he would be the adult who made you laugh, who would laugh at your jokes, and felt you were important. He was a role model for kindness. I sure miss him.
Inch worm ..inc worm..
I couldn't have said it better even to this day when I see one of his movies I know I can relax and know nothing in that movie would be insulting. Also I always saw him as very handsome.
Beautifully put 👏

Danny Kaye was not ugly.He was a beautiful man with so much talent, there wil never be another man like Danny Kaye,Rest in Peace🙏🎤🎼🎵🎶🥁🕺♥️♥️
Hello Nora
He was homely.
@@Armistead_MacSkye no he wasn't. He had his own type of handsomeness. Not WASPy Cary Grant Hollywood type, but in its own right.
@@POLITIMICOST Your opinion.
Danny Kay was a performer in every sense of the word. There will never be another one like him.
The most unique and entertaining genius that ever was. Danny will always be my humanitarian and entertainment hero! Simply THE BEST.
I loved Danny Kaye he was funny and a great actor and a great humanitarian. The world needs more Danny Kaye’s

Well said!
True comedy, in my opinion, doesn't involve crude tasteless humor, or vulgar language. True comedy was found in the mind and talents of this amazing man, he was and i believe is the personification of true comic genius. Nobody could match the brilliance that was Danny Kaye.
Well Put Sean
Too bad he wasn't funny.
OH! Becky-Brown I think thats funny!
Bucky Brown : Oh FUCK YOU!!!!
I only knew Danny Kaye by watching his old movies. I love them all, but White Christmas is my all time favorite. We lost a great man and entertainer when he died.
+
Sherry Gorman That's my favorite too. When I watch it, I know I'm supposed to be swooning over Bing, but when Danny Kaye sings 'The Best Things Happen When You're Dancing" I am just lost to the world until the number is over. He was wonderful.
Watching the live performances in the theatres is so fabulous. Hilarious and brilliant!
He was one of the most innately musical people I've ever seen, trained or untrained. Obviously he had perfect pitch, but his rhythmic sense was also perfect, and he always understood how the use the voice as an instrument, and how to move his body musically, too.
Growing up I got to love watching Danny. My grandparents instilled this love and I am forever grateful.
Here U got one of the worlds greatest Entertainer of all time, love his "Merry Andrew" + "Jester" ....BEST COMEDY MOVIES!!!!!
I grew u in the 60's & 70's watching him in the movies in tv reruns. He was awesome. I never realized he had such a background. I still keep an eye out for movies he starred in.
Still giving happy times to the world.
Glad to have found this thanks for uploading 🥳
One of the best, I'm so lucky to have enjoyed - and - still enjoy, his talent. RIP, God keeps a special place for those who make their business making others laugh.
I am offended that they said he wasn't good looking! He was a very handsome man. Even on that episode of The Cosby Show that he was on, he was so adorable. Nothing ugly about him at all!
I absolutely agree with you. I think he was a very attractive man.
I'm 73 years old now and I think he is still the best . My fav is still Merry Andrew.
One of the greats. I saw him onstage, as a child, in Omaha, NE at the old Ak-sar-ben racetrack; performances I will never forget. An inspiration!
Hello Anabel
I ❤ Danny kaye . I read & have his biography Nobody's Fool. The Court Jester, On the Double, Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Hans Christian Anderson, White Christmas, are some of my favorites. He could dance, sing, act. He was multi talented, He do comedy, serious roles. He was one of a kind. He was often imitatied never duplicated.
I HEART The Inspector General! Funny every time I see it, just like The Court Jester.
in Mitty Danny is a riot as the Surgeon, the British ace flyer, the Louisiana gambler, and Anatole of Paris, who *wreaks vith chic". I'm going to watch Mitty now, with that inimitable Boris Johnson, eh, Karloff, ad Dr.Hugo Hollingshead... Hmm, one wonders what the secret life of Toady Pence would look like, with Steve Martin playing the lead...
He was massively popular in England. The Royal Family came to see him at the Palladium
I GREW UP WATCHING DANY KAYE. LOVED WATCHING HIM. HE WAS BRILLIANT ALWAYS.
Thanks! Loved Danny Kaye!
Wow what an amazing man he was with so many great talents. No one will ever ever fill his shoes.
Hello Darlene
Nobody has what Danny Kaye had and that is a sad loss for our kids. I have loved him since
I was a kid.
i loved his movies and was just talking about him..my most fave movies in the world
Ann Burton Yes it is a loss, but unlike when you were growing up and me growing up they can watch documentaries like this and his movies at any time and place or just stumble upon them and be inspired by him.
This man was a super talent , rest in peace Danny Kaye 🙏
I wish i could have met this man.
He had talent in spades, the only actor i could listen to sing in a movie.
Great actor great dancer great singer fantastic human being. Was very depressing when i heard he died.
I just love Danny Kaye!!!! It's sad that he is gone, but we can still watch him on DVD!!@
As a bloke born in 1957, IF there was a choice of what to watch on telly on a Sat / Sun night in the sixties guess who was the star? Danny of coarse. As a kid I idolised him. No one could compare.
306 CHAMPION Same.😊
I loved Danny Kaye as a child, my mother took me to see his films and they bought the songs from Hans Christian Anderson on 78's! A great stack of them in a hard folder with each record in a paged sleeve like a book. I wish I could have met him, he was such an interesting, complex person who seemed to excel at everything he attempted. Thanks George.
Mike Dench where are those records today?
@@robertmanning3922 I have the set of DK’s 78’s in a hard folder that were my mother’s. I haven’t looked at them in years and it has been decades since I had a player for 78’s. The set has Minnie the Moocher. I wish I could listen to then once more.
The only celebrity for whom I and my whole family felt a genuine affection. Admiration is commonplace, but affection is rare.
Ooh, I like that. Nicely put.
Peter Ustinov is also in that category for me. I miss him terribly.
Great comedic talent, and he was very versatile. He could do drama as well.
ONCE IN ABLUE MOON SUCH GIFTED TALENT IS BORN......
What a genius comedian. Loved him.
I grew up in the UK, and he was a massive star, especially with White Christmas, The Inspector General and Hans Christian Andersen.
Love Danny Kaye and watched every movie I could
I loved him as Hans Christian Anderson! I had his album and played it daily in the 60s. I would sing along with him...when he sang..it warmed my heart...very fond memories for me
Lol. I still sing along with him.
The Court Jester is still one of the funniest movies ever. "She'll jump!"
George Orwell I agree 100%❤️. The Court Jester is my favorite Danny Kaye movie of all time⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Court Jester shows this man's true talent. "I've got it! The Chalets from the Palace has the pellet with the poison, the Flagon with the Dragon has the brew that is true."
Mr. Kaye called his daughter Dena "our greatest collaboration".
I have always found that sentiment uniquely complementary and remarkably touching.
BIG DEAL!
I loved him very much when I was a kid! fantastic actor! a legend!
That's the thing about greatness Bernstein also had it and could be so down to earth. Real very real people.
Amazing talent,
Danny Kaye was so fun to watch.I always died laughing! I miss him, dearly!!❤❤❤❤❤
He had CHARM. He was a total entertainer with the complete package of talents. He was funny, he could sing and dance.
Hello Patti
To me, there were two entertainers that took their talents to an unsurpassed level - Danny Kaye and Victor Borge...sadly, it is unlikely that we will see the likes of them again.
Dallas Nyberg You are right sir, not here, across the land, or- even in Califivenia, at least in the fiveseeable future!
Danny Kaye was a superb entertainer. So multi talented.
Among others I loved The Five Pennies. As a child, I thought he was such an great and loving person!
