If you read this honey, please ignore ugly, judgemental comments. You made it so easy and approachable. It's refreshing to see someone not "fixed up" showing off expensive equipment, etc.
Honey, your heart was in the right place!! You wanted to help AND YOU DID:):)
So many of us appreciate your reminders of how we were taught. I'll probably buy good pressure cooker but loved seeing you use exact equipment my grandmother did. She sealed and checked next day. Only difference she used a canning salt. I LOVED seeing those tubs she also used..
I loved my grandmother, "Mucka", and she'd be so proud of you, too.
Please ignore ugliness directed your way, say a prayer because most are just unhappy and I will pray for them and a special one for you and your family (nicer background music..lol)

Thank you Amy! I'm a "sometime" caner, but do my best from time to time! I ran across your video last weekend (01/06/2018), and all your helpful tips reminded me of all the important steps when canning. My husband and I live in Central Texas, and had about a dozen large brown grocery bags worth of green tomatoes that had finally ripened from our garden, that I didn't want to lose. So when we found your video, and found that we had everything in the house to can, we commenced to canning! And four quarts later, VIOLA! We had our crop in jars! We love your down-home presentation. Made us feel right-at-home! Thank you again for your video from the Bradley's in Texas!

I recommend not tipping the finished jar to get the hot water off the top when you remove the jar from the canner, as the tomatoes are still boiling and the lids are floating, if your lids were screwed on too tight (just finger tight is recommended), the lids can't float and air can't escape. It is the escape of air that causes the vacuum which is how your lids seal. Anyway, with still floating lids, you are risking having liquid from inside of the jars get between the rubber seal of the lids and the glass rim of the jars, which may result in a failed seal. That water on the top of the jars will evaporate very quickly so there is no reason to tilt those jars at all.

You really don’t have to wait till the tomatoes split. They get to mushy that way.
Few minutes in boiling water and immediately in ice water works just as well.
Also, I was told it’s important to wiping clean the jars tops before the lid in put on to make sure the jar seals properly.

I think your video was really great. Thank you. Have you ever thought about getting a camping flame to sterilize your jars and lids? All you'd need to do is flame around the inside the jar for between 5-7 seconds, place it directly beside the flame (as close as you can place it to the flame) while you quickly flame around the underside of the lid (2 seconds), then place the lid on the jar to maintain the sterility. This is how we do it in the bioteck industry and it's easier, quicker, cheaper and more effective (since you are heating the jars to above 100 Celsius).
