    Thanks Jason, I grabbed the file not to make but to learn from. My tank is a Fluval Venezia 350 which is a corner tank. There is limited space in the stand. I drew it in sketchup to see how much space was available inside. Reality is that there is not much room at all. Thanks again

    Awesome build! Quick question. I’m wondering how you estimated the volume for your return chamber engraving markings? I.e. how did you estimate that the 2 gallon mark is indeed at 2 gallons

    • @BornHandy
      @BornHandy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are inch marks, but if you want to know the gallons it would be: Inside length x width x height (in inches) divided by 231. So a 10 gallon tank is typically 20 long by 10 high by 12 tall. 20 x 10 x 12 = 2400. 2400 divided by 231 is 10.389.

    Hey Jason! Great videos, and yet another great project. I would like to make a sump exactly like this one but I’d like to add additional length to the first compartment after the filter socks for a lager refugium, and to the skimmer compartment to allow for media reactors. For someone that does not regularly use vector art, how complicated would it be to modify your plans?

    • @BornHandy
      @BornHandy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lancebusch8346 I am glad you saw that, and water definitely flows through - I am constantly cleaning them out. But...I have actually seen designs where a filter sock functions as a media bag, more than a filter sock. In that layout, mesh filter socks hang down into flowing water, allowing the media to come into contact with the water, but never having water flow into the top of the sock. In any case, thanks for watching.

    Where did you buy the acrylic sheet?

    • @BornHandy
      @BornHandy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That can be tough depending on where you live. Plastic shops is the best place, but not all areas have a local plastic shop, and even if there are a few near you, not all of them carry acrylic sheets. If a plastic shops are out, then get with a sign shop. Sign shops buy a lot of acrylic, and usually get cast acrylic (cast acrylic cuts better than extruded acrylic). Your big box hardware stores usually carry extruded, but their prices are 3 to 4 times what plastic shops charge, so hopefully they aren't your only option. - To your original question, I got mine from a local sign shop.

    Hi. How do you cut the pieces without a CNC?

    • @BornHandy
      @BornHandy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The idea is, even if YOU don't have a cnc. Sign shops are a common place to find a "cnc for hire".

    What was the price of the sump??

    • @BornHandy
      @BornHandy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its hard to say what it will cost because acrylic prices move just like gas prices. Additionally, some vendors charge waaay more for acrylic than others, but at the time of construction, I was paying about $120.00 per sheet of 6mm in 4x8 sheets. It took a sheet and a half (or so). The solvent and supplies were about $15.00. The nylon screws were just a few cents each, and the bulkheads were around $12.00. For sure, under $300.00, and I had enough material to make the custom overflow too.

    Hey Jason ,
    Would you build another one for anyone else if we paid you . I like your sump but have no idea how to do it ..

    • @BornHandy
      @BornHandy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not the best at gluing acrylic, so I wouldn't want that liability of flooding someone else's house... But, I have another video coming later this year where I go from start to finish on getting the pieces cut, and gluing them all together. If you are still needing a sump when that video hits, it'll be a big help (I hope).
      Thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment.

      @@BornHandy i look forward to this video!, i contacted a local shop and sent the vectors, waiting to hear back on cost of materials/labor, and this would be my first attempt at gluing acrylic. might you have any idea roughly on cost of materials in acrylic alone?

      @@theamjadjamousable I wanted a huge refugium, and to be able to run a Neptune COR 20 wide open. That meant that if the power failed, the water would rise a lot more that usual for a 75 gallon, so I needed the space. As it happens, this refugium fills almost to the top when the pump is off. On a side note, I have been thinking of doing a 40 breeder just like this 75, so if I do, a smaller refugium is in the works.
