Hope this video help anyone who is looking to tackle this project replacing the rear tailgate lock assembly on a Mercedes GL. Below is the list of the parts and tools I used to get this done. Enjoy the video and good luck!
Tools and Supplies: Flashlight, diagonal cutters, 1x cable tie wrap, T30 Torx Head screw driver, long nose pliers, roll of painters table, and Auto trim and molding tool set (Purchased at Harbor Freight Tools)
Parts: Tailgate Lock Assembly (Make sure to fits your year) and Mercedes plastic panel clips (All Found on Amazon)
Estimated Cost: $160-$400 (Depending on cost of parts or don’t have the right tools)
Problem: My Mercedes GL tailgate would not lock. I used both my key fob and tailgate auto button still could not get it to work properly. My driver dash alerted me that my tailgate is not closed. I determined that the lock assembly is bad. I ordered a third party replacement lock assembly and so far after replacing it I had no problems. This repair would of cost me a lot of $$$$ at the dealership and so I took a chance to repair it myself. I created this video to help others with the same issue.
    Thank you!!! :)

This was a great informational video. I was able to follow this video step by step and completed replacing my Mercedes Gl450 locking mechanism in twenty minutes. I called my local Mercedes dealer and they quoted me $470 to replace this new part. I spent $40 for the new locking mechanism on Amazon then went to Auto zone and bought a trim removal kit and a torx Allen wrench for $30. I saved myself $400. Thanks to the guy who posted this video. Much appreciated. Very simple job if you follow the video instructions.

Thank you for making this video. I followed the steps and fixed my 2008 Mercedes GL 320. I bought the lock, the tools and replacement clips on Amazon all for under $100 USD. It took me an hour to finish and I am not an expert. This was my first time.
I checked the dealership and they would charge me $180 an hour just to look at my vehicle even though I know the problem. Then the cost would have been over $400. Plus they would have to take time to order the lock and fix it which would have taken all day.
By watching your video, ordering the parts online, not only did I save a lot of money but also a lot of time. I also get the satisfaction of doing the job myself. Thank you!

Thanks this saved me some money 💵 my mechanic was going to charge me $500 to fix it. This part only cost me $54 on Amazon.
