At first, I thought you mean the unicorn at the beginning of the credits. The one that pokes the "A" in Gina. That can't be a coincidence. I was like, finally, someone else noticed.
The story of how this movie got made is a real tale. To say this was a “Passion project” for Reynolds would be a massive undersell. He spent over a decade trying to get this movie made. The first Wolverine movie nearly put a nail in the coffin for Reynolds getting to do this, but he persevered and after some test footage “accidentally” got leaked and went viral this film got green lit by FOX. How the test footage got leaked remains a mystery to this day, but there’s a rumor that some who’s name rhymes with “Bryan Breynolds” may have been involved.
I worked at the movies when this came out and saw it opening night, it was great the whole theater was rolling with laughter, the atmosphere was awesome. Favorite part though was that after credits scene, because people suddenly picked up after themselves. Who knew all you had to do was call them out for being dicks.
Small bit of trivia for you: the drydocked "ship" that they have the final fight scene on is actually one of the flying Aircraft Carriers from "Avengers" and "Captain America: Winter Soldier". Deadpool wasn't a part of the MCU at the time, but they still managed to sneak in some subliminal references to MCU movies here and there.

One of the great Easter eggs in this movie is the location of the big ending fight scene - it's the decommissioned SHIELD Hellicarrier. Much love to the VFX guys to sneak that in there.
So I'm an ecologist, and the flow on effects from an entire species being removed from our ecosystem would be far reaching and hard to specify, even if it's mosquitoes. First of all, it's only the lady mosquito that feeds on animals, they normally feed on flower nectar and act as secondary pollinators. They lay their eggs in water, so their larvae are often the primary source of food for small fish and other aquatic animals. Plus while they fly around, they are preyed upon by insectivores like birds, bats, other insects and spiders.
I kinda of agree with you in general. HOWEVER... I read in some serious reviews (or maybe it just a summary of serious reviews, whatever) that IN THE SPECIFIC CASE of mosquitoes, maybe, just maybe, it could make sense to do it. Apparently they are mostly parasites which doesn't contribute that much to the rest. All of that you describe is probably true, it's just "not that important" since, e.g., the fish or others eating the larvas actually eat mainly other stuffs, same for the birds/bats/spiders. Also, pretty sure mosquitoes do not care about flowers and thus do not act as pollinator helpers, so, yeah, on that part, i disagree (but i'm not an ecologist either, you might be right). Of course the study itself remained a bit cautious, since it's actually impossible to be 100% sure it wouldn't be a problem to heradicate all of the mosquitoes. It was a serious question because, believe it or not, humanity could do that. Eliminate an entire specy, willingly (not by accident), even something as resilient and expended on earth. With DNA modifications and directed virus and other stuffs, it seems to be technically feasible, or at least research can work on it. Thus the topic of this review was to discuss: shall we? Comedies actually have a big advantage over dramas in having heart wrenching moments land. Comedies get you invested in people so much quicker whereas tragedies have to work a lot harder to make you care about characters first. So the immediacy of jumping from the calendar girl bit to the cancer diagnosis, and the other cases of mood whiplash, is the filmmaker getting and keeping you engaged for the story he really wants to tell. The drama underneath is pretty simple, but the comedy is what glues it together for the full runtime.
I remember mainly thinking this film was going to be rated R for blood, gore, and profanity. Imagine my surprise when the holiday montage with Vanessa pops up within the first 30 minutes of the movie. The audience reaction at the theater was next level! 😭😂🙃
Really loved watching this with you both, great movie. Such a breath of fresh air, hugely entertaining, incredibly funny and oddly touching. I love it. I think Deadpool 2 was great! I just think you can only see Deadpool for the first time once so you already know what it will be like going into the sequel. Maybe that's the reason it doesn't get as much love as the first one.
They made us completely fall in love with them within a matter of minutes, which is why his cancer diagnosis was so surprisingly heartbreaking and hits you so hard, despite barely having had any time with these people
Underrated bit in this film - at the start, when Wade is threatening the pizza guy and suddenly switches from jokey to outright terrifying. Not often you get to see Reynolds be scary. Only other time I can think of him being genuinely scary was in the Amityville Horror remake
So the story behind this movie is INSANE. Ryan Reynolds BEGGED Fox for a Deadpool movie for about 10 years. He would not stop asking. So they gave him a greenlight and a budget of $58 Million. This is a very small budget compared to most superhero movies. Iron Man got a $140M budget for comparison. Now Fox only gave the greenlight to literally shut him up. They were preparing for a box office bomb. They did not think this was going to go well. The movie nearly tripled its budget opening weekend, and Deadpool 2 was greenlit the next day. Now Deadpool 3 is in production. There is also one person that Ryan has been BEGGING to be in the Deadpool movies. Hugh Jackman. Now, Hugh Jackman has said no every time... so far. But Ryan Reynolds is nothing if not tenacious. It'll only be a matter of time. The Deadpool movies even being a thing is proof of that.
Ryan Renolds was jsut born to play Deadpool and all the wolverine jokes I love lol so cool him and Hugh are friends irl. I'd love to see spiderman and deadpool team up like in the comics
You'll have to try another Firefly alumni R rated laugh riot next, Nathan Fillion (old friends with Ryan Reynolds too) is awesome in James Gunn's 'Slither' (2006).
Simone asking the truly important questions. I asked this exact question, and my 12-year-old said no more mosquitos would also mean the end of spiders which, according to her, would be a tragedy! I still say mosquitos need to be viciously eradicated!!!
one of the funniest facts i've learn after watching the movie, is that when he's killing the henchmen looking for francis, those guys dont know that his boss's name is francis, they know him as ajax
Gotta show love for the appreciation of the line about memorizing the details of her face, also hit me pretty hard on my initial watch and think it is commonly under appreciated in this film because of the nature of the film itself.
How it goes from R-rated jokes to “all the heart…” That’s what makes it feel so real, Simone Also, for Deadpool 2, you have to watch the Super Duper Cut
My son took his girlfriend to go see this movie on Valentine’s Day when it came out. She was upset because she did not expect it to be this type of movie. He told her it was a live story. But on the bright side about 2 months ago they got engaged. So I guess she wasn’t too mad.
Deadpool's REAL superpower is that he knows he's a fictional character, hence all the fourth wall breaks. He'll also read his enemies' comic books to find out how he defeats them, and then he'll go defeat them :P It's amazing. Ryan Reynolds made it his life mission to play Deadpool after he found out that in one issue Deadpool is described as "Ryan Reynolds crossed with a shar-pei" and he felt he was destined for the role lol
No need to comment through the movie Simone, watching your reactions and laughing pretty much says it all , that you were enjoying the movie and having a good laugh. And the fact you picked up on the jokes and what they were referencing....love it; Great vid ....cheers to you both....love your channel..
about the Mosquitos: 1. not all kinds of Mosquito actually bite. In fact I suspect that you would like Toxor Hynchites, a Mosquito that does not bite and eats other Mosquitos. 2. Mosquitos are important for pollination. Mostly they eat nectar.
As a wildlife biologist my thoughts on the idea of all mosquitoes going extinct and what ecological damage that would have is an interesting question. Firstly they’re annoying but most importantly they kill more humans per year than any other animal thanks to the diseases they carry. So for humans at least some mosquitoes gone would literally save thousands and thousands of lives. However, those are only a small portion of all mosquito species. The majority of them are actually huge pollinators for many plants and some even eat other mosquitoes. Not to mention they make up a large fraction of many other insects, reptile and amphibian diets. So they are definitely important and needed. After all a little less humans is kinda a good thing in the long run.
They did use some CGI to animate the eyes on the mask, but Ryan didn't want them to do it a ton. He actually spent a lot of time wearing the mask making expressions to get it to move some.
Simone's reaction was similar to my first watch. honestly, this film is fantastic. the way it plays its self awareness off without being cheesy is excellent and the way it plays with every emotion makes it so memorable. its almost like the way Sean of the Dead plays with the zombie films this is similar but for MCU films. a lot of films i could say 'it would be better if they did this' but i cant fault this film one bit.
Yeah but for this initial film I think a good villain would have detracted from Deadpool himself a bit as this movie, if nothing else, was just introducing the normie world to who and what Deadpool is. The second however I wish they had a better more substantial villain for but.... We got Cable so I'll take what I can get there. Now we just need Bishop.
If you guys ever watch Blade: Trinity, when Ryan was filming it the character he plays is a smart ass like Deadpool. He was given a Deadpool comic. In that comic, Dead is asked what he looks like. His response is "Ryan Reynolds mixed with a radioactive shar-pei. This movie is very faithful to the comics.
I once heard that in order for a funny movie to truly work and have real bite there have to be moments that are 100% delivered seriously. This movie gets that and does it extremely well.
Unrlelated but just want to say love your Pumat Sol shirt there Simone;) Also I really hope you guys watched the blooper reel from this. Its a really good one.
If someone could make a .gif of Simone's face from 16:42 thru 16:55....i think it would go viral fairly quickly!!! Just the most EPIC reaction ever!!! LOL...you could watch her soul leave her body. You could title the .gif, "oh sweet summer child". 😂😂😂😂😂
I first saw this on a plain to the Canary Islands. The amount of people I pissed off with my out loud laughing, this & the 2nd have to be in my top 10 favourite films.
What's also cool about this is they had more than one guy playing Colossus and the one that was in the CGI suit on set is also from Canada and is a fellow NWT boy like me
Deadpool takes place in the new Timeline created at the end of Days of Future Past where pretty much all the events in X1, X2, X3, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and The Wolverine never happened all. The X-Men still exist we just don't know how the events played out in this timeline and how similar or different they were to what we saw in the films. X-Men 2 would've changed a lot with X3 never happening. X-Men Wolverine most likely never happens and of course Origins as well. I imagine the X-Men went on a bunch of new adventures in this timeline we never saw which is a shame but nonetheless this is kind of a whole new start. Colossus is Fully CGI in this film voiced by Stefan Kapici who does a great job. So I haven't seen anyone point this out but the end battle takes place in front and on top of decommissioned helicarrier originally designed by Jack Kirby for the Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. serial in Strange Tales #135 (August 1965). The director for Deadpool has confirmed that it's not a S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier stating: "No, it's clearly not the Helicarrier. I just want to say for the record, there's a lot of groups in the Marvel universe who use flying combat platforms. It's not just the Helicarrier. A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics) has some. It could have been anything but a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. Because that would be outside of the purview of the Fox/Marvel arrangement." i personally think it's just a fun little nod or hint at groups like this existing in the Fox X-Men universe even though they can't mention them for legal reasons if the X-Men universe has massive fighting robots they could also have flying carriers as well. Bob the solider Deadpool recognises at the end battle is actually from the comics first appearing in Cable & Deadpool #38 (May 2007) and went by Bob, Agent of Hydra. He’s usually an antihero and a sidekick of Deadpool a former member of terrorist organisation Hydra but defected to help Wade Wilson, keeping his Hydra uniform which is where his name comes from. Because of legal reasons Bob couldn’t be apart of Hydra as they’re own by Marvel Studios who own most of Marvel while Fox only owns the rights to X-Men so they simply couldn’t mention Hydra at all. So instead Bob is apart of this random group but who knows Deadpool 3 has been confirmed to be apart of the MCU no idea how that will be explained but with Deadpool and X-Men now being owned by Marvel Studios they’re free to have Bob be apart of Hydra.
@@CaptainAmercia Ok so why at the beginning of Xmen 3, an OLD Xavier and Eric (who are still friends) meet of with a younger Jean Grey. But in Xmen Dark Phoenix, and older Jean Grey is allied with a YOUNGER Xavier and he is already enemies with Eric? And don't tell me alternate timeline or some shit like that. It is a cop out response, a post hoc rationalization. And the characters ages don't match up.
@@Th3Gam3925 Simple it never happened. Days of Future Past erased everything after the 1970s. Apocalypse never showed up in the original universe which changes alot while Dark Phoenix happens in the 1990s instead of the early 2000s. I think one of my favorite things about most of your videos is George trying to figure out what the hell Simone is talking about in the intro 🤣
"...Lawful Good, save everybody..." 👍
You know you're in for a good time when the opening titles call the writers "the real heroes of this movie" 🤣
16:45 Simone’s face 😂
We’re all now patiently waiting for Deadpool to appear in the MCU…
Such a glorious movie. I'm so glad Ryan pushed hard for it to be made.
This movie was everything I hoped for and more. Ryan Reynolds was born for this role. Blind Al is my favorite character. “God I miss cocaine.”🤣
I thought it was cause of scheduling conflicts
The bar guy friend of his plays Tuffnut in How To Train Your Dragon.
His friend at the bar, those joke insults is true bromance
The viral marketing for this movie, and particularly the posters, were so darn funny.
That last scene where Deadpool was in a bathrobe is a call back to the end credits to Ferris Buellers Day Off. Same schtick and same bathrobe.
Not a moment is wasted in this film. If there's not a verbal gag, there's a visual one, and where there's neither, there's feels.
The Ringer is Johnny Knoxville, Jed Rees (Deadpool), Katherine Heigl.
"Thats Canada's ass" indeed.
Also, every time I see Sunrise market when Deadpool turns the camera away, I am convinced those are real shoppers
Bro Y’all have been exploding us with this content, really providing some really good movies and really good commentary.
Facts, they’re great and they have great selections. Very enjoyable to watch
I saw this with my mom and my sister the amount of gasps and bursts of laughter was amazing
Taken Trilogy:
1: Daughter
2: Revenge of Criminal's Father
3: Wife killed - Revenge of Bryan (Neeson)
How it goes from R-rated jokes to “all the heart…”
That’s what makes it feel so real, Simone
Also, for Deadpool 2, you have to watch the Super Duper Cut
Super Duper Fucking Cut is only better when rewatching.
Properly done, comedies have the ability to make dramatic emotional scenes hit extra hard with way less buildup required compared to actual dramas.
Because you're expected a laugh and it's almost like a system shock to be met with emotion.
Released in theatres on Valentine's weekend this was 100% a love story. The best ever! 🤣🤣
My son took his girlfriend to go see this movie on Valentine’s Day when it came out. She was upset because she did not expect it to be this type of movie. He told her it was a live story. But on the bright side about 2 months ago they got engaged. So I guess she wasn’t too mad.
The soft, romantic, "True love never dies" ad they released was brilliant.
Someone probably already mentioned it but the ending is a parody of the 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' ending.
And the fact you picked up on the jokes and what they were referencing....love it;
Great vid ....cheers to you both....love your channel..
Funniest part is that the reason why nobody tells him where Francis is, is that they don't know him by that name, everyone just knows him as Ajax.
about the Mosquitos:
1. not all kinds of Mosquito actually bite. In fact I suspect that you would like Toxor Hynchites, a Mosquito that does not bite and eats other Mosquitos.
2. Mosquitos are important for pollination. Mostly they eat nectar.
The post credit scene is straight out of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
16:45 the look on Simone's face............. PRICELESS!!!
He actually spent a lot of time wearing the mask making expressions to get it to move some.
cant believe you guys hadn't seen this future classic. looking forward to you watching the second one, which surprisingly, doesn't disappoint.
The moment Wade calls him "Francis" for the first time...oof! The look is 👏 total gold level acting.
I love it so much. The combination of ultra-violence with comedy hits me differently than any other superhero movie.
Love this movie. Would be a 10/10 if they had a decent villain.
Francis was a perfect villain for this movie
"Are you there God? It's me, Margaret" when he cuts off his own hand. Disgusting yet hilarious reference. 🤣
can you explain that joke, please, i have no idea
@@juliocesarg.r.1238 Sure, it's the title of a book that centers around a girl getting her period for the first time.
I don’t think you guys saw Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. If you do, be sure to stick around for the end credit scene, it’s related.
When I first heard about Ryan wanting to be Deadpool, I thought back to him in the Blade 3 audio commentary.
12:52 Meredith Baxter played Michael J Fox's mom on the old sitcom Family Tires.
I once heard that in order for a funny movie to truly work and have real bite there have to be moments that are 100% delivered seriously. This movie gets that and does it extremely well.
Fun Fact: The credits pay homage to the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." You'll recognize the bathrobe, the hallway, and the wallpaper.
Unrlelated but just want to say love your Pumat Sol shirt there Simone;) Also I really hope you guys watched the blooper reel from this. Its a really good one.
Can’t wait for you guys to watch Deadpool 2. Which in my opinion is even better than the first one
If someone could make a .gif of Simone's face from 16:42 thru 16:55....i think it would go viral fairly quickly!!!
Just the most EPIC reaction ever!!! LOL...you could watch her soul leave her body.
You could title the .gif, "oh sweet summer child". 😂😂😂😂😂
THAT INTRO RANT WAS GOLD.
Simone, your face is priceless with your reactions to the humor in this film
Tidbit: when random tunes played on the car radio, the brassy one was from the 1960s _Batman_ tv series....
I first saw this on a plain to the Canary Islands. The amount of people I pissed off with my out loud laughing, this & the 2nd have to be in my top 10 favourite films.
16:46
Her face is priceless
this movie is a Masterpiece. I love so many silly things finely tune on a work of art. Simone as usual looking adorable.
Also the end scene was a a variation of "Ferris Beuller's Day Off". (Yeah, I'm old.)
I don't know who did the thumbnail but whichever of you it was you're an absolute genius
Thumbs up for George's great taste in books with the Allomancy reference! Can't wait for the final Wax and Wayne book to drop.
The director for Deadpool has confirmed that it's not a S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier stating:
"No, it's clearly not the Helicarrier. I just want to say for the record, there's a lot of groups in the Marvel universe who use flying combat platforms. It's not just the Helicarrier. A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics) has some. It could have been anything but a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. Because that would be outside of the purview of the Fox/Marvel arrangement."
i personally think it's just a fun little nod or hint at groups like this existing in the Fox X-Men universe even though they can't mention them for legal reasons if the X-Men universe has massive fighting robots they could also have flying carriers as well.
Wayyyy to long to read all that. Stop trying to make sense of the xmen movies. It's a giant plot hole clusterfuck.
@@Th3Gam3925 It's pretty straight forward, sorry you couldn't understand.
Charles and Eric made different choices that shaped the X-Men and Brotherhood of Mutants differently to what we saw in the original timeline. Charles found the Mutants in X-Men Origins which never happened instead he still found them one by one in the 1980s only not at the Military base. Logan was set free in the 1980s as well but by Jean. Apocalypse never showed up in the original universe which changes alot while Dark Phoenix happens in the 1990s instead of the early 2000s.
X-Men First Class - 1960s
X-Men Days of Future Past - 1970s
X-Men Apocalypse - 1980s
X-Men Dark Phoenix - 1990s
Deadpool - Early 2010s
Deadpool 2 - Mid 2010s
New Mutants - 2020s
Days of Future Past - 2022
Timeline is this excluding all the original movies. The X-Men were active in the 2000s we just haven't seen in in this new timeline.
I love how this film was filmed in Vancouver BC.
I was in Vancouver while they were filming Deadpool, and I only found out because the local news announced that there would be a traffic jam because of that
The name Negasonic Teenage Warhead is actually taken from a Monster Magnet song of their Dopes to Infinity album. Great reaction.
They did a fantastic job with the 2 deadpool movies! Hope we see number 2 soon :3
When Ryan is cracking jokes and says "Less angry Rosie O'Donnell" he had a string of jokes he tried out and on that one Gina actually punched him in the face. That ended up being the take they use cause it was perfect. He also apologized immediately afterwards.
16:25 He said my name. Nice to see you too, Deadpool.
