Hi, great to see you! You achieved a harvest, so that's a brilliant start 👍. I've heard someone on a video, many years ago, explain about sowing seeds in smaller pots. They said that you wouldn't put a newborn baby (the seed) into a double bed, you would put it in something small like a moses basket to sleep in. Then as the baby (seedling) grows you move it to a cot, then a child's small single bed, then a standard single bed, and eventually a double bed. That made sense to me. It's great to see you back. I hope you are well.xx
That makes sense to me too, thanks for the tip
My favourite squash, the deeper the colour the better. Those look good, enjoy!
Thank you, I'm looking forward to them
2nd year growing these for myself. Warmth of soil makes the difference so smaller pot makes sense. Great video. Hungry feeders too, they mug everything around them to get nourishment. Lots of compost and rotted manure or blood fish bone seems to do it. Pleased you had some success..love pumpkins
It wasn't a great haul but I was pleased with what did manage to grow. Thanks for watching and commenting
Looking forward to hearing what they taste like, the nuttier the better for me. Keep us posted please x🎃🎃
Hi Adam, I do enjoy your "start to finish" videos, always good to see results from a seasons work. A pity about the poor germination, perhaps a sheet of glass and a page of newspaper on top would make a difference. Each day the glass is lifted and the condensation wiped off. The old boys told me as a general rule, after sowing no further watering needed until the seeds have germinated. I see that this is a winter storage squash and the fruits should be left to cure in the sun for ten days. No doubt it says all that on the seed packet!
Hi Robert, thanks for the tips. The squash have been left to cure in the sun for ten days... I'll be trying one soon enough. Thanks for the comments
Like I said with the butternut. A one-liter bottle, a touch of liquid fish juice & water. I do that with all my "vine" crops. Thanx for posting. Oh...how'd they taste?
Thanks Randy, I'll try the feed next season. I still haven't tried one yet, they're supposed to have a nutty flavour to them
Hi Adam, I must say that I hadn't heard of them .Let me know what they taste like. See you soon.
Will do Dave
Did you give them a chance this year, 68f min, 3 seeds per pot (5’’) pick the strongest. Feed regularly
Sadly not, I concentrated my efforts on growing the giant marrow this year
Hi, I've got one Uchi Kuri plant in green house and have two lateral runs each with 2 fruits on each. All doing well and my thoughts were to remove all the leaves so as two chanel all the feed into the fruit which appears to be doing okay. Why feed large leaves which you discard? Just my bit of logic.
I think cutting of diseased or yellowing leaves is considered good practice, but I think cutting off all the leaves might cause more harm than good, don't they need leaves for photosynthesis and the overall health of the plant and good fruit production. That's just my guess, but they're your plants - so it's up to you
Pick them yellow and small about size of cricket ball or bit bigger . Fry them like courgette salt and pepper- thank me later
Also I grow mine out of the compost heap and they grow upwards onto a big apple tree . Try and lightly bury some stem as they root along the stem and once rooted twice or more the plant gets super charged and grows better
Thanks for the tip 👍👍
