Single Collection sells don't often reach nearly 1 BILLION dollars, but the Macklowes art collection did just that, shy of one billion by just $78,000. If you have been keeping up with the Macklowes, you knew this was on the way. The first half of he sell happened in November of 2021 reaching over $600 Million in sales, needless to say, we were all prepared to see this sell go crazy.
I'm never happy to see a divorce or make a spectacle of anyones life, but I have to notice a few things here. People will still spend money that could save every homeless person in America on dead white men (no shade) and the folks here are not concerned about inflation.
In 277 years, this is the most Sothebys, the largest auction house around has ever seen a single sell collection total.
