Everyone likes to focus on Portland in the 84 draft but the thing that bothers me is a trade that DID happen. As a native of Indiana, that 2nd pick was a Pacers pick that we traded to Portland in like '79 for a guy past his prime. So we could have had Jordan but alas we did not
Pacers still would have draft Sam Bowie as back then having centers is the way to win titles and MJ didn't get certified until AFTER the 84 Olympics which if most teams would have seen him during the exhibitions before and after the Olympics, MJ would have been the number 1 pick or 100% rockets makes that trade.
Barnes wasn't in Golden State until a year later. Barnes came in with Festus Ezeli and Draymond Green in the 2012 draft. Bogut came in after the 2011 draft, as well (mid-2012). If that trade went through, there's no telling where Golden State would have drafted in 2012 or if the Warriors would have pursued Bogut. The line-up would have been something like Curry, Ellis, Harden, David Lee, Ekpe Udoh/Lou Amundson. However, Smart wasn't obsessed with shorter players, so he probably would've gone for a taller wing, sending one of Curry, Ellis, and Harden to the bench in favor of Dorell Wright (who had an amazing year in 2010).
You have your Warriors timeline mixed up, which makes things that could have happened sound implausible. Klay Thompson was drafted June 2011, not 2012. Also, Richard Jefferson wasn't on the Warriors before Klay's 2011 draft for a trade to be possible to OKC. The Warriors traded Monta & Co. to Milwaukee for Bogut & Stephen Jackson in March of 2012. Then turned around a couple days later and traded Stephen Jackson FROM the Warriors to the Spurs for TJ Ford, the aforementioned Richard Jefferson, and a 1st rd pick that became Festus Ezeli (man, what lost potential he turned out to be). I could believe the Thunder tried to trade for Klay at some point in the year 2012, but the way you described it would have been impossible. Just an fyi.
There was another trade between Cleveland and Phoeinx Amar'e Stoudemire for J.J. Hickson but the Cleveland didn't want to give up a younger J.J. Hickson
Had OKC gotten Klay they'd be the new dynasty not Warriors, Harden and Steph would never work because of their similar style of play. Klay would've complimented KD and Russ well but Harden could never do what prime Klay was doing defensively

That’s where it all broke down. It’s a bummer because I would’ve loved to have seen Kobe, deng, and noah play together and see what happens.
Duncan to the Magic with T-Mac might be the biggest what if ever and it fell through because Orlando wouldn’t allow Duncan’s wife to fly with him on team plane , I’m sure they feel silly in hindsight about as silly as the newspaper there that asked if Shaq was worth 100 mil , just think how many titles Orlando would have had they played their card correctly in those 2 instances.
The one that still burns me is the 2009 Draft Night deal between Golden State and Phoenix. Don Nelson agreed to trade the rights to Steph Curry to Phoenix for Amare Stoudemire, letting Phoenix think the deal was a go so they passed on Jrue Holiday and Jeff Teague, then backing out of the deal. The Suns wanted the "heir apparent" to Steve Nash and thought they had Curry, so they picked Earl Clark at 14 instead of Holiday or Teague.

All GS core players was drafted and developed.
Even after OKC blew the Harden trade, they still had a pick from that trade that could have been used to draft Giannis or Rudy Gobert. Instead they took Steven Adams.
It literally took Giannis 7 years to become the player he is now & gobert is a offensive liability & it also took him 3-4 years to be the player he is now .. As for Steven Adams he became a key player for us after 2 seasons
It's hindsight, nowadays it's easy to criticize that choice. If you go by that point, Giannis would've been #1 if people had any idea what he'd become.

I had no idea Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom were on that failed trade. Imagine if that trade happened but somehow either Gasol or Odom were kept. They could’ve had Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, and possibly Dwight Howard. That would’ve been absolutely crazy, but also Pau Gasol played both PF and C so if Odom got traded, it could’ve been Gasol there. I never even thought about this at the time (part of it I didn’t pay as much attention to more details at the time) but my goodness they could’ve had a Big Four, maybe Big Five considering Ron Artest/Metta World Peace was on the 2012-13 roster which I do remember his brief stint there.
As a long-time Houstonian I still think about that fantasy of MJ, Olajuwon and Clyde on the Rockets together. There would be no Magic’s Lakers, Bird’s Celtics. That potential Rockets team would’ve won 12 rings.
Deep breath. Everyone knew Tracy McGrady was going to be a star in Toronto, except for the coach. The Raptors could have had Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady for a lot longer, but instead, since the waters were muddied Tracy left. But the true madness was the former Raptors GM passed over was an offer Dallas made where they asked for Vince Carter and Antonio Davis in exchange for Nash and Dirk... before Tracy McGrady left. So the Raptors could have had MVP Nash, with Tracy and Dirk.
You didn’t mention how Kobe still won two rings with Gasol and he beat the super team Celtics in the finals to do it. Lebron was bounced by the same team. Kobe also had to do it in the west which at the time was ridiculously stacked. Lebron had to form a super team in the weak ass east and he still came up short.
The CP3 trade to the Lakers is only half of the story of why the trade was vetoed the NBA on the New Orleans Hornets were owned by the NBA and they were looking to sell them and keep the team in New Orleans the trade with the Clippers was pretty much guaranteeing did they get a first round draft pick also let's not forget that the NBA rigged the system so the New Orleans could have the number one pick that year plus we got Austin Rivers and this is coming from New Orleans Pelicans fan go Pelicans

I try to readily admit when I'm just outright wrong about something. And at the time, I was pretty well convinced that while the Warriors splitting up the small/smaller backcourt of Ellis/Curry (and yes, at the time it was very much Ellis first in that listing) was a good thing, they should have stuck with Monte. I mean, he was our guy, he was there on the We Believe team. I (and many fans) thought we should have stuck with Monte and gotten a big by trading Curry before he fell apart on us. I have been wrong about many, many things over the years. This one, this was a big ol glaring "ooof", but dang if I'm not okay with how things turned out.
please tell me since i'm NOT certain why 7 teams had shaquille o'neal 3 teams had patrick ewing 3 teams had alonzo mourning 2 teams had hakeem olajuwon and kareem abdul-jabbar 3 teams had wilt chamberlain and PRETTY MUCH only 1 team only had bill russell
So they would have lost gasol, Odom, and I forget if there was a third guy I apologize. But getting Chris Paul and letting go of Odom and gasol it actually doesn't seem that great because then they would be terrible in the front court if they didn't go out and get someone else. I don't know why this trade was canceled, I remember the time everyone thinking the Lakers were making out like But Houston getting pau in his prime, In the hornets landing three solid players for Chris Paul they could have rebuilt with. I don't know I think they should have just let it happen, does Chris Paul instantly bring you a title? He never has before.
As a Sixers fan, NOT trading Simmons for Leonard. I wasn’t low on Ben at the time. But JoJo, Butler, Harris, Leonard would have won that title. Instead I had my heart ripped out by a circus shot and am stuck in hoops purgatory….
I never knew Gasol and Odom would’ve been involved with the CP3 trade. If somehow they kept Gasol then the starting 5 for the 2012-13 season could’ve looked something like this: PG- Chris Paul SG- Kobe Bryant SF- Metta World Peace (Ron Artest) PF- Pau Gasol (he played both PF and Center so he could’ve been moved to PF) C- Dwight Howard I didn’t really pay much attention with details at the time but looking back into that roster I think the Lakers could’ve made things work out to where they wouldn’t have had to sacrifice too much of their bench to make this starting 5 a reality which would’ve been quite scary if that happened and assuming everybody stayed healthy.

Takes a real one to admit! Anyways dub fans have been on the up for the last decade so I guess it was good to be wrong about this lol
I guess when we've had to watch so many comically bad years over time, these last few years are where we eat good. @@LockdownK
please tell me since i'm NOT certain why 7 teams had shaquille o'neal 3 teams had patrick ewing 3 teams had alonzo mourning 2 teams had hakeem olajuwon and kareem abdul-jabbar 3 teams had wilt chamberlain and PRETTY MUCH only 1 team only had bill russell
If my grandmother had two wheels, she would be a bike 🚲
The Lakers losing the Odom and Gasol would have put them out of contention. It was overall a good move
So Jordan could have started his career with Olajuwon and Drexler, and ended it with Kobe. He could have had 15-18 rings.
he would of been undisputed GOAT
He still is.
Wow never knew jokic could have been traded for griffin
Was a Tyson chandler to okc trafe... anyhow its always forgotten that the okc could have amnesty Perkins to have space and keep Harden
Imagine Payton Kemp and pippen damn
OKC could’ve been something special if egos weren’t a factor
The s's strong af in this video
What does that mean lollll
Would you guys PLEASE stop saying CP3 and Kobe would've won a chip. NO TEAM CP IS A APART OF IS WINNING ANYTHING! HE IS A LOSER. NOT A POINT GOD
🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
@LockdownK it's just facts. He either injured or turning the ball over when it counts. It's no in-between.
@@LockdownKit's true, Kobe was in his twilight years, Dwight wouldn't be able to deal with CP3 and CP3 still would be Injury prone.
Damn if my spurs had gotten Kobe 😭😭😭
Yup every GSW fans was mad Ellis was traded.
Kawhi was drafted by the pacers and traded to spurs. PG wanted AD on pacers early yrs, with Danny granger still there
You really have a high quality NBA channel bro, One day you will have much more than the current 22k subscribers.
I appreciate that!
The Blazers wouldn’t have gotten Jordan they already had Drexler. The blazers drafted for the need at the time. Even if it backfires down the road
Dream and Jordan would have broken reality.
As a Sixers fan, NOT trading Simmons for Leonard. I wasn’t low on Ben at the time. But JoJo, Butler, Harris, Leonard would have won that title. Instead I had my heart ripped out by a circus shot and am stuck in hoops purgatory….
I would subscribe but i really dont care for how you keep calling nba greats the old guys
fair enough
Beyond belief fact or fiction
Yesssirr
Didn’t Kno about that Blake for jokic trade
Right
I never knew Gasol and Odom would’ve been involved with the CP3 trade. If somehow they kept Gasol then the starting 5 for the 2012-13 season could’ve looked something like this:
PG- Chris Paul
SG- Kobe Bryant
SF- Metta World Peace (Ron Artest)
PF- Pau Gasol (he played both PF and Center so he could’ve been moved to PF)
C- Dwight Howard
I didn’t really pay much attention with details at the time but looking back into that roster I think the Lakers could’ve made things work out to where they wouldn’t have had to sacrifice too much of their bench to make this starting 5 a reality which would’ve been quite scary if that happened and assuming everybody stayed healthy.
Wait wasn’t klay in the 2011 nba draft ??
lakers wont win a title with chris paul anyway
why do you think that?
21:51 Golden State Warriors won their first NBA title?! What the heck is dude drinking?! Does he know that the Warriors won 4 championship before KD joined the Golden State Warriors.... I'M JUST SAYIN' 🤦🏽 🤷🏽♂️
"With KD on the roster is also part of that statement"
