In my final analysts, I came to the conclusion that the Magicsee N6 max is the best Android TV box for 2018. The year is almost over, and the only way I am changing my position on this claim, is if another TV box presents itself before the end of the year and beats the performance of this box. But for now the title goes to the Magicsee N6 Max. The design speaks for itself, its high end performance in 4K videos and 3D games, its high benchmark scores, and its ability to maintain a stable heat level and utilize passive cooling for extra cool operation.

@TV Box Stop Than you for your fast response! I fond that if you hold small button at the back of the box and power it on you can see Android Recovery menu. One of the items is Apply update from sd card.
If it is possible at all please describe how to flash box from SD card. Without computers and wires...

I have read a few reports saying that they have had problems streaming live TV with the new firmware. Have you encountered this problem or should I consider these reports nonsense? At that price might as well go all out and get the king of TV boxes nVidia shield TV 😂😜 After 3 years its still the king & still best TV box of 2018. For a general all rounder box, the xiaomi mi box is one of the best, Netflix & TH-cam full 4k support, voice commands & has chrome cast built-in, and it half the price of N6, plays games really well (real racing 3) add 64gb USB pen and use as internal storage, and then you got a really sweet tv box cheap, and xiaomi do regular updates as well. I added a Bluetooth mouse & gamepad, but my Shield TV Pro is still my main driver.
The N6 is roughly half the price of an nvidia shield while the flash sale is on.
My H96 Max Rockchip scored 8889 on the Ice Storm Extreme test.

Most RK3399 TV Boxes run the CPU up to 2.0 GHz. They apparently clock limited this box to 1.8 GHz, the same as the Cloudnetgo CR19. While this does help with overheating, it does have an impact, not a huge one however, on performance. I have been playing with a number of these boxes, and they all can benefit from a cooling fan. I wish they would just include an internal fan like the Nvidia Shield, as it would be more effective.
The highest benchmark scores, outside of the Nvidia Shield, I have gotten are from the RK3399 version of the H96 Max. Over 105000 on Antutu, and about 10% higher on other benchmarks than the other RK3399 boxes I have played with. While any fan can be made to work, this one has adequate height from the rubber feet so as to not impede air flow, and it is quiet and effective, and cheap. It also Keeps internal temps under 55 degrees C while heavy gaming.
I consider any TV box where the CPU has limits placed on the clock for thermal reasons to be crippled, and am not playing with any of them. The CPU has internal thermal limiters which will reduce the clock speed when it gets to hot, so limiting the clock really is unnecessary unless they wanted to avoid a thermal shutdown. I won't be buying this one.

@@rajabtambwe The H96 Max is the best of all the RK3399 boxes I have tried in terms of sheer performance. The only problem is that it gets hot and throttles the CPU if you do not put a cooling fan under it. You can download the CPU Throttling test from the Play store to verify both the throttling with no fan, and with a fan. This box is also the most inexpensive of the RK3399 boxes. The only thing I dislike is the Media box launcher. I downloaded a version of the Beelink Light home launcher from Freak Tab, and it is great. Very powerful box. Only beat by the Nvidia Shield on all benchmarks.

Recommended maximum clock speed is 1.8GHz for RK3399. and 2.0GHz for RK3399K (aka Pro). From Rockchip's datasheet.

Practically, the performance will be limited with a thermal throttling even running at 1.8GHz, the practical speed is much lower than what you are expected from it. In this video, he got +100000 antutu score. most user can get around +90000 only. Because the heating from GPU while running in full speed.
Nice box but pricey, considering that there are specials going on for the Nvidia Shield that put it in the same price range. Also the issue with Nova Launcher is a big deal for me.

Microsoft Launcher works well on my H96 Max. It should work well on this box too.
Top TV Launcher 2 works fine with it and looks great all set up, have never tried Nova Launcher tbh. Only just got my N6 today and Top TV Launcher 2 set up easy no problems 1st time.

I purchased the N6 Max due to your review.
My Antutu benchmark is only 72145 and the Sling shot extreme say the N6 Max is NOT compatible with the test as the N6 Max does not support Vulkan and crashes when trying to run test. The Ice Storm Extreme score is 8090.
The 2x2 mimo does not work, The MAX Negotiated Rate is only 144.4 (Mbps), and that is 7 feet from the CPE210 access point. 802.11n 2x2 mimo should be Negotiating at a Rate of 300 (Mbps). The N6 Max always stays it's Negotiated at 144 (Mbps) even though the access point states the rate is only 5.5 (Mbps).
I've also heard that the USB Type-c port does not work, however I can't confirm that as I don't own Type-c cable.

Hi Diane that quite a lot of issues you highlighted there. Have you updated to the latest firmware to see if those issues were resolved? There were at least two firmware updates. Where did you buy it from if you mind me asking, sometimes there are some clone stuff on the market that I hope you did not get. My reviews are just as is and I do it out of the box, and when I got this box no one sent it for me I bought it for myself during a pre-sale last October 2018 from GeartBest. I purchased it from Banggood as they had the best price at the time (2/2019) and I have never had a problem with Banggood. I had to wait for Banggood to get their shipment from Magicsee, before they could ship it to me. The price was $109.00

I think the Build number is the same as firmware version number and if that's the case, the firmware version I have is newer than what's listed on the magicsee website.
Magicsee stopped short of finishing the case design. In the cup holder section, I can picture a plug for a fan and a short dome that covers the cup holder that has a replaceable passive fan that draws out the heat.
I tried to contact Magicsee by email and by their contact form and neither their email or contact form worked.

One final thought, question, on why my box's best antutu score is only 72814 substantially lower than your 100661 even though on the other tests the my scores equal or exceed yours. When I tested my box I had already upgraded to the new firmware that fixed the google login problem. Could the new firmware be causing the lower antutu score? Thanks.

Okay - Allow me to address that Benchmark Score. If you can test it again with Antutu version 6.(?) you will probably get a lower score, more accurate, but great none-the-less. I was expecting a score of about 71k to 78k, but that's with Antutu 6.(?) I've heard from several that the newer version scores are highly suspicious, rating inaccurate high scores. But the box certainly is impressive and something I've been looking to see. I would be very interested seeing your review on another box .... MeCool KM9, having a second generation S905X2. It has a feature or two that the Magicsee N6 did not. Thanks a bunch for bringing this box up to awareness!!!
Point taken. You see that's the thing. The old Antutu 6.3.2 version is meant for boxes with Open GL ES 2.0. Those lower end boxes cannot run the new Antutu 7.1.1 because the new Antutu 3D bench is for Open GL ES 3.0 -3.2 and possible later versions. What happens is when you try to install the latest 7.1.1 version on a TV box with ES 2.0 it installs but you cannot run the 3D benchmark part of the test, because the boxes either freezes or bypasses the test and continues with the rest leaving out the GPU score in the final results. So just because you asked, I ran the old Antutu 6.3.2 for Open GL ES 2.0 boxes and the score is 80884. Soon TV boxes with GL ES 2.0 will be obsolete so we have to use the new Antutu to compare to boxes in the same class. If a box cannot run the new Antutu then is cannot compare.

I cannot figure out how to get 5.1 sound out to amp using kodi, spmc, or ftmc over hdmi. I get the picture but no sound apart from 2 channel, my cheaper mi tv box 3 works fine! (have tried using the same settings too. One thing i cant change is the audio output which is greyed out.

The RKM MK39 scored a higher antutu bench mark of 101100. Higher multi cpu score. Is the RKM just as good as this??
In basic operation yes it's the same hardware. The difference with the RKM MK39 is it does not have the heat dispensation as the N6 Max. Less heat faster operation.

Do you know why the N6 Max is not able to play the Amazon Prime Video streaming app? I have tried over four different versions of the Amazon Prime Video streaming App. Is this an N6 Max deficiency or is it that I have not found the right version of the app? Is it something else that I am not aware of, i.e., a box setting?
On another note, I would really like to know the make and voice of the text-to-voice engines you use. They are very natural sounding voices. I like the one you used for the Magicsee N6 Max review. Most of the time they will use it for watching full HD movies online and time to time for my brother and me to play. If you are looking for a budget TV box that can play Netflix in 4K the Mecool M8S Pro L is a great TV box for that. However, the Beelink GT1 Ultimate is a more solid TV box in terms of hardware. You are on the right track. The question about the 1.5TB hard drive is a bit of a Yes No answer. Some box may read a 1TB drive others may not. Those that read it may only be able to convert up to 32 or 64GB into to internal storage. Others refuse to read or convert large external hard drives all together.

@@vladbularca8731 Like I said this is not a clear cut case it differs for box to box. The last time I tried it the box did not recognize the drive at all. I have two 128GB 3.0 flash drives and all TV boxes recognize them. The best CPU TV box chipsets are Amlogic, Allwinner, and in the Rockchip brand, the RK3399 only.
Could do with a wireless remote with voice control. Otherwise, a good box. Pity.

i literally gave mine away. yundoo y8 had grate scores but it sucked especially playing 4K and using Wi-Fi
wow, so impressive, because this device just shows +90000 only...
DDR4 has no advantage via LPDDR3 (or DDR3) 1866 clock spped, actually, the current manufacturer using a same ram clock speed with timing setup with a reference. just some variation via clock setting of CPU. It is so bad because they can not get a pull-advantage of DDR4 memory. it is just little expensive. I am not sure they are using lower RAM voltage but, questionable.
ONE MORE - mostly, 2GB model (DDR3 or DDR4 nothing matter, 1866 is the maximum clock speed on RK3399) is better memory performance due to the memory timing timing is better.
The only advantage is lower voltage usage resulting in less heat, which is supposed to result in faster speed.
actually, the heat from RAM do not affect on the performance, but, if the heat is transferred on CPU, it will affect on the thermal throttle. I think, it is an issue of heat management not on a performance issue.
@@tvboxstop I have received and tested N6 max from Magicsee Official Store at Aliexpress. Geekbench mark score - 1251/2844, Antutu score - 92020 (33017 / 21671 / 31626 / 5706). When retest after delete data, it shows 90570. Hard to think DDR4 can help to avoid/reduce a Thermal Throttle issue.
Hi, I ordered my Magicsee N6 TV Box after seeing this video & received today. When I started using I am facing lots of problems, some of the apps not working including Amazone Prime. Also this Tv Box is working too slow. My Wifi is very strong it is very close to the TV Box but still its not up to my expectation. Can you suggest me with some solution. Do I want to do firmware upgradation, did you did that ?

The only issue I had was with the Google login, and I updated the firmware and it was fixed. About slowness I hear some complain about that but I did not get that, you can try the firmware update and see if it helps.
HelloTv Box Stop. I was having trouble using a sd card as internal storage on my N6 max, You recommended formatting the card to internal storage. So I researched how to do this. The method that I discovered was click on settings, more settings, storage, portable storage sd card, then on the next page showing the contents of the card click on the settings menu on the top right hand corner of the page and you will be given the option of formatting the card as internal storage, Everything works fine until the last step. There is no settings menu and I'm not given the option of formatting the card as internal storage, Am I doing something wrong Why can't I format the card to internal storage? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Are you seeing the SD card as in the storage setting If Yes and there are no format options, then the SD card is too large to convert to internal storage. You can also use a PC or laptop with an SD card slot and format the SD card to FAT32 format and then try it again in the TV box.
Hello TV Box Stop. Thanks for the reply. Since you mentioned that the sd card might be to large I tried with a smaller 64gb card. In storage the card is recognized as portable storage sd card 59.61gb. When I click on the card a page opens displaying the contents of the card but in the top right corner there is no settings menu or anywhere on the is their a menu giving the option of formatting the card to internal storage. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? The card is formatted to NTFS not FAT32 will that make a difference? With my laptop I'm only able tu format NTFS or exFAT. If NTFS is causing the problem I will try formatting the card on my brothers oid computer to FAT32 this weekend. Thanks for all your help.

Hi Albert, that shouldn't be any trouble at all, it's straight forward. Try changing the the cable for another one. Check your router for red light when you plug in the cable to the TV box.
TV Box Stop hi the cable works fine on my old box witch is a BB2 PRO. I just plug it in and it works. On this new box the cable doesn’t work. There’s no light on the back of the box we’re the cable connects. Wi -fi works fine but it’s to slow. Is there any settings that I need to no about. Could you do a video on how to connect the cable. I cannot confirm Netflix, but I never said Prime can't stream in 1080p. I don't live in the US region so prime does not work here unless I use a VPN which I don't currently have to to confirm.

I bought this based on the review here. Unfortunately this is one of the top 50 worst purchases I've ever made. There are far too many problems (Had to flash it to get it to boot right out of the box; will not turn on if left in standby; does not play 4k well and really dies on HEVC but for me the ultimate was that the SPDIF port is not digital, its a regular headphone jack . . .) I think magicsee is dead. No response to email etc. Great review of a terrible product.

Hi TV Box Stop,. I bought the n6 max on your recommendation. I have been happy with it for the most part. But recently I tried adding a 64gb sd card the box it recognized it but it said it was corrupt and I was unable to read or write to the card. I tried three more cards from different manufacturers with the same result. The cards were good because they worked in my phone leading me to believe there's a problem with the box. Has anyone else experienced this? If you did were you able to fix it and how? Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks.
Yes, there is a simple fix to this. The reason why the Magicsee N6 Max is not detecting you 64GB SD card is that it is in the wrong format. If you buy a latest SD card the format would normally me in eXFAT format. The box would not recognize that format, Windows would but Android has issues. I just tested a 128GB SD ADATA, I formatted it using FAT32 and NTFS and the box recognizes both formats. I also did it with a 128gb ADATA flash drive and both formats also work. Use a Windows PC or Laptop to format the SD card. If having issues recognizing the card in windows install FREE mini partition tool and format it. www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html

When I format the card will it ask me if I want it formated in FAT32 or eXFAT or is Win 7 to old for eXFAT? Is this something that happens with all android TV boxes and tablets? @@jamesfaiat8165 Hi again, right click on SD card drive and select format. Under format options, you may get eXFAT or NTFS. Select NTFS if those are the two options. If you have FAT32 you can select that also. Not all boxes this happens to, maybe Rockchip boxes.

Great spec , spoilt by the external design. It not only looks ugly but more importantly, is very impractical. It virtually begs for a beverage holder to be placed on it. Even if you can resist that temptation, it invites it's demise through general accidental spillage of liquid (& other foreign matter) into it's expensive innards to render it useless. Even placing it 'out of the way' won't stop dust from accumulating much quicker than having such vents underneath or on the side(s). There's this thing called 'gravity', which is this designs Achilles heel. It's price tag merits more thought to the casings design, material and aesthetic appeal. I'll buy a decent, capable one which I can easier replace if it malfunctions or becomes obsolete.

One of problem, Did you ever tested IR remote controller while using WIFI 5GHz ? It become useless. and not working at KD player. When I connect with Ethernet cable, it is working again. There is a serious conflict between IR remote controller and WIFI
OK currently I am doing another video, when I am completed I will check it out to see if I am getting the same results.
Some notes #1 :
(1) It is seriously happening while downloading any activity thru WIFI
(2) my WIFI Up/Down test result is DN:140~160Mbps/UP:150-180Mbps via Internet Speed Test App, (FiOS 300Mbps service, Linksys EA9500)
(3) I have connected on QNAP TS-431 using SMB
(4) KODI 17.x ~ 18 B3 or RC, all has tested
(5) When I connected on the Ethernet cable, all problem is gone (or reduced).
Some notes #2 : default firmware from MAGICSEE (20181123), Antutu score is 90000~93000; I have update with a firmware which downloaded on your the other video link. even it is same version BUT, Antutu score is 96000~98000; Geekbench scores are very simlar as 1251/2844.
Some notes #3 : If compare between KODI or TH-cam, KODI is much worst (or just a problem in KODI).

Just received the BOX from Gearbest. It works at all. everything is similar to H96max. Aida64 shows similar data. The cooling is really good.
You can watch TH-cam, browse by Chrome and run MX player.
BUT NOT MORE - You can NOT login to google, gmail, Google play etc..
You can NOT create any account nor from app nor from system settings. (the system settings app even stopped when I press create account - google)

There was a firmware update that fixed that very issue back in November. They also released another updated firmware last month too.

That is not possible with these boxes. If the stock firmware was not rooted then it's almost impossible to unroot with out the developer actually making an unrooted firmware.

Better for Magicsee N6 max?
I have a very bad experience with this device. Several official applications that are massively used in my country can not be started at all or just show errors. Even with the latest Android 7.1.2 firmware upgrade, nothing is better. I must point out that these same applications work without flaw on some other devices with far inferior hardware configurations. From the customer service they said that a new Android 8.1 firmware is coming soon ... but I'm still skeptical.

did you try any other launcher?... i hate the stock launcher... why didn't Nova Launcher work?
The launcher is locked in the root of the box, I tried 4 different launchers a few minutes ago and they all failed to start.

@@robzkello Buffering depends on the speed of your Internet and many other factors. Mine is streaming just fine on 40GB , 10-20GB will work also. Below that lot's of buffering.

Hello TV Box Stop I am still trying to format my sd card as internal storage on my n6 max. I have tried 32 64 and 128gb cards the 32gb formatted to FAT32 all with the same result. When I click on the sd card in portable storage a page opens showing the contents of the sd card. But there is no settings menu in the top right corner or a pop up menu giving the option of formatting the card to internal storage. Can you think of anything I'm doing wrong? Have you ever formatted a sd card as internal storage on a n6 max? Any help will be greatly appreciated as this problem has got me to my wits end. Thanks.

I believe it will read a 4TB external drive if you format the drive to FAT32 or NTFS. It will not read eXFAT format. However, you will not be able to convert the drive to internal storage.

I don't understand your n6 max has a antutu benchmark soore of 100661 but my n6 max has a antutu score is only 68449, that's quite a difference, what do you attribute that to am I doing the benchmark wrong?
No you are not doing it wrong, it could be that you are using the old version that is for boxes with Open EL GS 2.0 and under (Antutu 6.0....). Antutu 7.1.1 and later versions are for boxes with Open El GS 3.2 boxes. That could be one reason, the other reason could be that the box is overheating during the test, overheating affects CPU performance, which is part of the Antutu test.
I'm not sure what version I'm using but I just downloaded it from the playstore yesterday and I don't think the box was overheating it was barely warm to the touch.

I downloaded antutu 7.10 as you suggested that an older version might be responsible for lthe low score. With a new test with antutu 7.10 the score dropped from 68449 to 63237. So do you think I'm doing something wrong or I might have a defectived box?

It seems that there is no new firmware since 2019-06-04 (the last available firmware is N6MAX_update_20190604.img)? After sending several emails to magicsee, I got no reply, nor even a single word! In N6 Max the TH-cam app keeps giving an error: "Network error", then crashers the TH-cam app! I checked the wired internet connection with a laptop, and the problem is not the internet connection! Try installing Aptoide apps store and under updates section update Neflix an chrome. You may have to uninstall the both apps first before installing from the Aptoide app store. Sometimes updates cannot work unless you uninstall the app first.

At that price might as well go all out and get the king of TV boxes nVidia shield TV 😂😜 After 3 years its still the king & still best TV box of 2018. For a general all rounder box, the xiaomi mi box is one of the best, Netflix & TH-cam full 4k support, voice commands & has chrome cast built-in, and it half the price of N6, plays games really well (real racing 3) add 64gb USB pen and use as internal storage, and then you got a really sweet tv box cheap, and xiaomi do regular updates as well. I added a Bluetooth mouse & gamepad, but my Shield TV Pro is still my main driver.

Depends on if they over clocked it. I have a tv box with the same processor that doesn't over heat or crash. It's the RKM MK39 it's the best TV box I ever had.
I still use that box, but this one is going in the main man for a while.
the wifi is not AC alone it has many other types combine ,usually you can't set up the box too far from the provider's modem
It is a powerful device but it didn't support HDR
The N6 Max does not support HDR playback? A couple of files on the USB stick indicated they were HDR and seemed to play fine. Maybe HDR in name only and not actually a properly formatted HDR video?

There is no switch for that, however, on some boxes once the WiFi is connected, sometimes you need to disconnect the WiFi for the LAN to activate. Try disconnecting by turning off the WiFi switch under network settings.

When the icon turns green, Ethernet is available". Can you explain how need to do it because I tried but to select the ethernet and not know where is the ethernet configuration.

@@peppi315 OK so I have connected the box and there is definitely a bug on the vertical panel WiFi settings. However, if you scroll down to more settings you will be able to access the WiFi settings from there. I will report to Magicsee, however they are releasing a firmware update in March so look out for that. My LAN works fine, just plug and play.
magican't see should get his engineers to go work as clobbers. I have bought a magiccan't see g400 plus.in a nutshell nothing works........every 5 boots 4 ends up in hanging , the only reciever wich in 2020 doesnt have netflix............and also playstore says it's not compatible and it will not let u install it. sat reciever is a crap , on simple diseq 1.0 i can scan the second sat , it simpy hangs !!! when u update a channel it messes up all your favouristes . there is an option to save channels and favs ............u try it it says saved , u reload it it loads nothing so favs and channels r lost. u cant change nor disable that crap of launcher it has ........cccam connect when it feels in good mood , wifi stops working for no reason. i have send them so many messages on facebook but they havent issued a single firmware update in 1 year.......so they dont give a damn .......afteral they already got your money . FIST AND LAST Magican't see poduct i buy !
