      males can reach 18-20 feet and over 2 tons. Smaller yes, but not by much they are just less bulkier than the orcas and slightly shorter. Pods of similar sizes of both species are known to avoid each other though of course the orcas would be the aggressors if they have numerical advantage otherwise the "false" guys are way too dangerous prey to hunt regularly.

    • @drk321
      @drk321 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have been in the water with these animals and yes they are maybe 2/3 the size of an orca, as soon as you see them open their mouth and reveal the impressive conical teeth all doubt is removed as to their biological relationship to orcas.

      Its tracked via a satellite tag so if the tag can't communicate for a period of time the computer will just draw a line between where the whale is when it goes off and where it is when it comes back on. The whale probably swam around the edge of the Island during one of these times and the system drew it going over the land

    • @drk321
      @drk321 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      First of all, pseudorcas are not fish. There is an account of a diver in Maui who was with a pod of pseudorcas that just made a kill of a sailfish, which is actually the fastest fish in the ocean. So yes, they must be faster. The whale then offered the pectoral fin to the human as a gift, which has been recorded many times with this species. Food sharing.

      The other is the delphinidae or toothed whales such as dolphins, orcas, belugas, and sperm whales.

      An informed person would never refer a group of dolphins as a "School". That is how you describe a large group of fish. Dolphins and whales are ALWAYS referred to as "pods". Always a good idea to know what you are talking about before criticizing someone else. My guess is you will double down and come back at me before actually looking this info up but the most basic ocean enthusiasts know dolphins travel in pods. I live in Hawaii, am a marine biology major and decades long underwater photographer and to call a bunch of dolphins a "school" is cringe worthy. Stop being "that guy". We have too many "That guys" in the world. Know it all's that know NOTHING! Scientist DO deal in facts and they had their facts right. YOU didn't. So sit tf down. You are the garbage intelligent people have to deal with when trying to hold a decent conversation on the internet. Some insecure person trying to sound intelligent. Didn't work this time Jeff.

      They are closely related, but much larger. They are part of the delphinid family (Delphinidae). Porpoises are smaller than 3' in length and of the seven species that are known, none inhabit Hawaiian waters. It is commonplace for the folks in Hawaii to refer to dolphins as porpoise, though.

    • @CleverClover2023

      Pilot whales have more spherical heads while pseudorcas have more elongated heads. Very similar but false killer whales get larger and are more fish eating whales while pilot whales are more likely to eat squid. False killer whales have also been documented many times offering part of their kill to humans in the water with them. Have not heard of pilot whales doing that. Also I think pilot whales are the only cetacean that has been recording attacking humans. I have been in the water with both and am less comfortable around pilot whales than false killer whales.
