    Great review of an awesome hammock. I have had big guy deluxe for almost two years. As a big guy (6’5”, 275 lbs) it is the cats meow!
    I was hesitant to buy one because of the price. I have been in regular hammock before purchasing it. After getting it I was kicking myself for not doing it sooner.
    It is the most comfortable and adaptable hammock as far as sleeping style on the market. I am a side sleeper and get a great nights rest in this hammock.

      @@SpiguyverBackpacking1 Would you recomend using an underquilt made spesific for bridge hammocks, instead of using a normal one? Or isn't there much difference?

    • @SpiguyverBackpacking1
      @SpiguyverBackpacking1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@geirzzzzzzz Specifically for this one Bill recommends using a normal under quilt, as they fit well and work great. For something like the Banyan or Ridgerunner you can use a normal UQ, but there is a lot more insulation there that isn't actually used and is a bit of a waste. For those, Loco Libre Gear and Warbonnet make bridge specific quilts that are perfect.

    Always love your educational videos, Mark but didn't get how you added the bug net. After watching your orig Townsend hammock presentation, I ordered a Lux UL with bug net for myself. Love the hammock, as it's so comfortable but don't quite get the bug net. Did you just drape it over the ridge line? If so, then how do you close off the foot and head ends without interfering with the UQ cinch up and other cords?? Ask this Q since I will be camping out in mosquito infested Audubon Sanctuary this upcoming weekend. My provided net from Bill has a sewn up sleeve and I was tempted to run the ridge line thru that sleeve but if I do that, I won't have access to any of the cords attached to the ridge line. I'm probably missing the simple solution. Hope you are doing well.

    Thank you so much for such a thorough and excellent review! I've been looking at every bridge out there, and concerned that 1) I cannot have any pressure on my shoulders at all (arthritis), and 2) I sleep on my stomach with 1 leg up (back arthritis says must!)...and this is the 1st hammock that will for sure let me sleep the way my creaky body needs to - meaning I can camp again!! Great review. Bills stuff is top notch.
    I just sold my luxury bridge as I primarily use his happy medium. It offers same length of bed space but is slightly narrower. Total length of suspension triangles is less than 10’ so super easy and convenient in tighter situations. I’ve grown to love the fact that the bugnet can be left home but understand a non integrated bugnet is a dealbreaker for some.

    • @SpiguyverBackpacking1
      @SpiguyverBackpacking1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right on, I had entertained the Happy Medium, but I really did want to experience the full size bridge! So far I'm in love with this thing! Do you find there is more shoulder squeeze in the Happy Medium over the Luxury?

    • @kmazinthewoods6634
      @kmazinthewoods6634 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SpiguyverBackpacking1 I personally don’t find there to be any more shoulder squeeze in the medium. In talking with bill, he basically said to flip around in the luxury so your head is at the foot end and see how it feels. The foot end bar on the luxury is 34”. The medium bridge is symmetrical with 36” bars on each end, so slightly wider than the luxury’s foot end. The difference with the medium is there is not as much clearance between the hammock body and the bar. I basically lay in what bill would call the middle of the bridge. My head being just in front of the head end bar and my legs extended under the foot end bar. If you were one to find it necessary to always be under the head end bar the luxury is probably the way to go. I primarily camp in cool to cold weather so I’m not really sprawled out fully taking advantage of all the bed space anyway. I’m on my back or side in the middle of the bridge.

    Join the Club...The trend toward 'lighest comfort' will continue...It's part of getting older, Mark! As you age it becomes function over fashion and comfort over weight. I am in my 60's and I am now more honest with myself..Like you said its about a good nights sleep and enjoyment! I am not seeking to set speed or distance records. I just went backpacking this last week and I finally broke down and started carrying my crazy creek chair versus a sit pad.....love to lean back by the fire.

    For starters, Mark, wanted you to know that, based on your video, I just ordered Bills Towns End Lux UL. That being said, I have a suspension question, based on a comment you made in another video about not liking whoopie sling suspensions any longer, because they can slip and are finnicky. You also mentioned you cannot use your preferred Myerstech strap system on this hammock. Since you didn't show us how you set this hammock up, have you relented and used a whoopie sling and/or can you use cinch buckle straps? Loved the video. Also, hoping to be able to employ the available Fugal bridge buttons that are becoming commonplace now, to protect my Dutchware Xenon Wide winter tarp from the bridge pole tips, a topic in another one of your fine videos. Hope the new job is going well for you, as you settle in.

    • @SpiguyverBackpacking1
      @SpiguyverBackpacking1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What's funny is I saw that when I was editing, but didn't really notice it when I was in it, I guess it just happens! I really don't feel that this is that tippy feeling, there are certainly other bridges out there that feel a lot more tippy to me. Compared to a gathered end, all bridges are going to feel tippy to some extent until you get used to using one.

For what is is the bugnet is quite good. Top two for me is Townsend and ridge runner.

Second, you’re dead on about Bill - he is a character, but will give every bit of carefully considered advice and customer service. Third, I have the Big Boy and his bridge is the only bridge that fully uses the double layer as everyone else compromises it to some degree by creating a gap for a pad. Fourth, there are some downsides. The spreader bar is very inconveniently in your face. Also, the underquilt will have air gaps as there is no UQ made specific to this bridge. For me…it would put hurt my feelings if he actually made it longer and wider.

      What is it about the Bugnet that you don't like?

      @@SpiguyverBackpacking1 Norway! :) Areas where I hike it tends to get packed with mosquitos, horseflies and even worse (in numbers) no-see-ums/midges. So much that it can ruin the experience at times. 😅 Having a great bugnet is a must, one that closes up entirely with as few gaps and/or points of entry as possible. Easy to get into etc. Some of the bottom entry hammocks I've had bad experiences with, so a bugnet like that doesn't attract me too much :p but the hammock itself looks awesome! And interesting alternative to the Ridgerunner for sure. :)
