lol Elon Musk is talking about the internet changing mankind for the better...He's right. But most people (myself included) use the internet for cat videos, cringe mashups, and twerk videos.
Well, compare to the benefits brought by Google, Amazon, TH-cam, Facebook... I see no problem with the Internet. The only matter is the way people choose to use it!!
currently doing a phd.. am i sure the success of my VR visulisation platform will be a "success"? no.. will it add to the leaf of knowledge sure.. couldnt agree more. Hence why im developing this project as a PRODUCT not a knowledge donation. But both. You can design a phd to do both.
Nah. It's the key to advancing in a decrepit system that has become a parody of what it once was. Colleges shit out clueless buffoons that get parachuted into management positions and we keep wondering why China is overtaking us at breathtaking speed. By the way I have all the degrees you could ask for. Engineering degree, EMBA, the works. I do. But I never found them useful, I only got them to play the game and win. O won to the extent there's winning in this game, my income is good but I still think they were a waste of time. Not for me, I got my money's worth 1000 fold, but for society.
@@sardoniclaugh9646 I agree with you to some extent, but throughout my computer science degree I have learned a lot about what I went in for. Also, regarding you statement about China, they steal our technology and knowledge that has been developed for thousands of years. How do you think China went from poor to advanced in 50 years? They used pre-existing modern civilization to give them an advantage and begin their revolution at a planned speed.
@@stef6963 I hate China but saying their economic boom is based on "stealing knowledge and technology" is an exaggeration. Most of what we call knowledge is by definition free for all, we took knowledge from around the world too to get us here. Technology is a bit different, some of that is patents but let's not be naive here, everyone steals as much as they can. No, the Chinese got to where they are today because we became weak, lazy and overconfident. We got used to the idea we are the worlds only economic, cultural and military superpower and we will rule the planet in perpetuity. We shipped all manufacturing overseas and became the worlds economic capital, a bureaucratic center that produces nothing but trends, brands and financial instruments. Basically we "design" things like the IPhone and places like China make them. The problem is this is all well and good as long as we remain the economic capital of the world. Capitals are rich, always. But China has been steadily and very carefully working to establish itself as our rival and once they overtake us economically they will inevitably take our place at the center of the world. It's already happening, just look at how scared our once mighty and arrogant corporations are to not offend the Chinese. It's pathetic and it's only the beginning. Once we lose our hegemony just as the UK and other mighty empires did, we are in for a world of hurt. We're completely unprepared for the planet to not buy our dollars, our Wall Street bonds and other funny money and to not pay ridiculous premiums for the privilege of buying our brands. It's going to be a bloodbath.
"the goal was to make enough money to pay the rent, not do anything beyond that." Do you really think that's what he told his investors when raising money?
