Hey chief. There’s no “easier to break x attack with x attack”. Vertical attacks will always take priority over horizontal attacks when they clash. Even if you’re doing a horizontal attack that does triple the base damage value, that won’t do anything if your opponent executes a simple vertical attack input. Also when you commit to a Soul Charge, it doesn’t actually reduce your defense. What happens is you take a 20% counterhit modifier. I have a complete document regarding all this uploaded to the SC2 server.
Also I have to point out Soul Edge (Growth) has an extra 20% attack modifier to it. Gram (localization mess up) has 130%, making it Siegfried’s second highest base attack power weapon. The main downside is your defense is crippled tremendously because counterhits are extremely devastating. They consistently deal 20% extra damage in neutral, and open you up for set ups that wouldn’t otherwise exist.
I like when you talk about soul caliber weapons because it takes me back to a very good time period when we used to unlock things through good old-fashioned hard work rather than through DLC practices. It is good that a good chunk or at least a very small majority of the characters do have some recommended and good weapons if you don't want to go through the extra mile to get their obvious best weapons. But now you have to do the same thing for soul caliber 3 lol. You brought me back into this little rabbit hole of soul caliber so you're gonna have to be responsible for this.
the issue with doing a similar video for SoulCalibur 3 is that the ultimate weapons are almost always the definitive best weapons for each character, with rare exceptions like tira

YESSSSS Talim's Double Crescent Blades were ALWAYS my weapon of choice for her. It always confused my brother why I kept picking them over her legendary/Soulcalibur but they just always felt so good to use.
I never considered the Magic Sword for Link. I was playing around with Cane of Byrna and being surprised by the insane damage buff it can get with soul charge. This was really helpful! Thank you so much for doing this!

I loved using Spawns ultimate weapon. Sure the self damage wasn't good if you used his overdrive kicks but if you can land his vertical hits you were taking chunks out of the opponent and a fully charged necroblast would wipe an entire healthbar

This is a genuine question but is there a joke I'm missing here? Context? I'm lost as to why Seong Mi-na's section is just completely devoid of any information whatsoever? Is she annoying to fight against? Is she busted? Cheap? I don't understand. It's been quite some time since I played SC2, I'll admit, but I remember rather enjoying playing as her personally. Even if she is, though, I would've still liked to hear about some of the statistics of her weapons. Cuz, if she is busted, playing as her in the solo content and playing against her are different things in this circumstance.
It's mostly a joke about how Seong Mi-na lacks a clear choice for a good weapon and how every time he gets her with Halberd/Halbard she gets the enemies with their ultimate/optimal weapons to show up. (Taki with Kris Naga, Cervantes with Lethe, Link with GFS, etc)
Honestly I’ve found that I consistently get further in survival when I use viper edge over alraune.
Just one other comment from a Link main: his Magical Sword isn’t that good. A lot of Link’s weapons run into the issue where they’re made redundant by one or more. Thankfully the Magical Sword is able to carve a niche out because it is a great weapon for block damage, but those extremely average stats hurt against anything with an inherent defense higher than 20%.
The Razor Sword is objectively outclassed by both the Megaton Hammer (10% higher offense, same reach, no guard damage) and Biggoron’s Sword (5% higher offense, much more reach, no guard damage, and you use 3 HP to per hitbox now rather than using it to block which is better because SC2 is defensive at higher level play). The other problem is the Biggoron’s Sword is objectively outclassed by Soul Edge, which is also one of the best weapons in the game. The way defense is calculated is lopsided in favor of the one with a defensive stat. Link’s Soul Edge has such titanic defenses that Lethe isn’t even able to deal a full 100% damage with its 150% offense. Higher attack (10%), an actual defense stat (35%), and a much better drain than the Biggoron’s Sword (slowest drain of any Soul Edge) makes it an objectively better weapon.
If you’re using Link, his starting viable weapon would be the Cane of Byrna. There is no “x beats x attack more easily”, so it’s a straight upgrade over the Master Sword like the Magical Sword. It also has the two best Soul Charge gimmicks tied to it: a 28% defense stat that occurs at level three Soul Charge (it isn’t 25% as I got higher values of 26% when labbing it), and it restores up to 32 HP. Offensive Soul Charge perks disappear on hit, when you take damage, or you block an attack. The defensive Soul Charge perks do not disappear though.
