    Awesome, informative, and well done video -- thank you !
    I have a pygmy that is nearing her time, and this video really explained a lot about things i had only read about up until now (EG: loss of tendons, contractions, etc.). You really did a good job at describing AND showing all this.
    THANK YOU !

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats

    No discharge? Did I miss it in the video? My doe is really close I think, I’m nervous about if she is or not, I’d love to get some sleep tonight. She doesn’t have any discharge, but she has a lot of symptoms. Suggestions?

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you know her due date? Feeling for the ligaments and if they are bagged up will be your best indication. Does she still have her ligaments?

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They do discharge some. They may loose their mucus plug weeks before labor though. When they are in labor they will have slime.

    What all do you feed and supplement the mom when she is pregnant and has kids on her?

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Brock Meese Hello! My pregnant does get free choice alfalfa hay and alfalfa pellets. I never give grain when they are pregnant because it can make the kids too large. Once the kids are born I still give free choice alfalfa hay and pellets but begin to give them grain as well to help with the milk production.

    • @juliarose25
      @juliarose25 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is good to hear - I also free feed alfalfa hay. No pellets though. I'm going to be introducing grain very slowly when she kids in about 2 weeks. I'm curious as to what brand and specific formula of grain you give your does who are in milk. Thanks for any help! juliarose@gmail.com

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Julia Rose hello! Exciting to have babies on the way :). First off I will say good quality alfalfa will be your best friend for your milkers. It has 15-20% crude protein which is the highest of any hay variety. My girls always get free choice alfalfa hay and pellets. I love the pellets because I have found they keep them full longer. Almost like a slow release if you will. Happy full goats means less screaming goats. Grain I ONLY give to my milking does. I usually stick to Noble Goat Dairy Parlor. It has 16% protein plus zinc, manganese, copper and cobalt. I mix some brewers yeast in and some cracked corn as well. I always eye ball it and make a big barrel of it. so I would say 1 bag of Noble, 10 cups of cracked corn (just because they love it, not much nutritional value), and 2 cups of brewers yeast. Brewers yeast is a trick I learned a couple years ago. It helps with digestion of other minerals, plus ups the milk supply and butterfat. Hope that helps :)

  • @lbcsusan

    Enjoy your videos! Just bought my first goat. A pregnant Nigerian. I thought she'd kid within days, or so the lady I bought her from told me. But she had only had her a month & didn't know when she was bred. Now I've had her a month & still no kids. I think the ligaments are gone, but she's only about half bagged up. I've wormed her & given her baking soda as she seemed very bloated. She's friendlier, but still no kids. Anything else I need to do?

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just keep an eye. If her ligaments were actually gone she would be in labor and within a few hours you would see noticeable contractions. Is she bloated with gas? Or babies? Lol. It is absolutely stressful knowing ur goat is pregnant and having no idea when they will kid. If she is eating and drinking and pooping normal, she is fine. Sounds like you are doing good and keeping a close eye. This is about all you can do. As far as the bag, I have had does that didn't bag up at all until they went into labor. So not always a detector. Good luck and let us know!!

    • @hariskelsey9666
      @hariskelsey9666 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not always necessary to have straw in the pen, the goats like to dig in the ground and it’s cool for them. They don’t have straw in the wild ;)

      Sorry to bother you on the weekend, but my nanny is about to kid for first time. Vet said she is ready but now she cant walk without help and seems to have been contracting for a couple days. Why goat poops lot while giving birth

    • @MsSarahMAdams
      @MsSarahMAdams 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      supriya sarkar - the pressure from the baby being pushed out. Females of all species who give birth to live babies use some of the same muscles they use for pooping to give birth it’s also why some human mothers unfortunately poop when they are in active labor and pushing.

    How soon after birth did the kids feed? With four in the process of being born, does that delay the first feeding? Was CAMI able to nurse all 4 or did you supplement with bottle feeding? Great video. Thank you for the information.

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      She's feeding them all within 30minuyes to an hour. Sure, if labor to get tall 4 out takes longer then the first kids are eating a little later than the last but I have never had issues. Cami makes enough milk to feed hers and a few others lol

      It depends on how comfortable you are in getting involved with the births, as far as I’m aware they haven’t ever called a vet but obviously asked there goat friends for advice, I guess it depends on how bad the labours are and how comfortable you feel
